Newcastle have released the following 8-minute interview with head coach Eddie Howe ahead of the season opener against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Howe has had a full pre-season to implement his footballing philosophy this summer. While it’s still a work in progress, the early signs are promising as witnessed in the pre-season friendlies against Atalanta and Athletic Club.
The transfer window is still open with Howe vowing to continue to work to strengthen his squad. The transfer tally so far stands at three with the quality additions of Nick Pope and Sven Botman along with the return of Matt Targett on a permanent basis.
Howe is now settled with his family on Tyneside after being away from them last season while he implemented a minor miracle in keeping the club in the Premier League. The new season is almost upon us and Newcastle United are just getting started.

Comment #241I’m quite pleased Cornet has gone to West Ham. He’ll be replacing Benrahma who is a player I really like.
Would anyone consider a bid for Benrahma? Last year his stats were played 26, scored 8, assited 6, and I feel next year he could do a Bowen as I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet. Moyes prefers midfielders who can defend, so Cornet will be more to Moyes taste. Only problem is that we don’t need a LW as we have ASM who is similar although Benrahma played as a number ten at Brentford quite often.
Another number 10, we could possibly get, who I think we haven’t seen the best of, is Buendia – that is if he gets squeezed out. Every bit as good as Maddison if you ask me. All four of those players mentioned are ones I’ve liked for a long time and think will have great seasons, and really wanted to sign back when they were in the Champo.

Comment #242Also if Leicester are desperate to sell, the area they have too many players is striker. Surely they’d be open to selling one of Daka or Iheanecho, that is if they decide VArdy is still the main man. We need a striker, and they need money. Why not take their 3rd choice striker? I really like Daka and think now he’s had a season to adapt, he could get 15-20 if played all season

The more I think about it, the more I think buy Sesko and loan him out. I don’t think we are competing for top four this year, nor in danger of going down so can make do with an average loan striker, then have the possibility of going into next season with a world-class striker, rather than have Wood Mk II (Ings etc) Wasting away on the bench.
To break into the top four, we need to get lucky and find a youth who goes on to become an elite megastar like when Spurs got Kane or Bale. Sesko could be our Kane and propel us to the top. An Ings type striker is just kicking the can down the line to next season at best.

I noticed while in catch-up mode yesterday you asked how to get your team out of 442 format on FPL.
Unsure if you got an answer so here goes…
To change to 433 get into ‘pick team’ mode, highlight your 3rd forward on the bench, select the ‘’switch’ option. All players will become highlighted, select the midfielder you want to bench and ‘switch’. The formation will now have changed to 433.
Remember to ‘save changes’

In principle buy to loan is a possibility that would provide us with a good quality young striker. But how many CL clubs need to sell their young prospects before they have reached their full potential?

Comment #248Morning all. Really looking forward to Saturday. On holiday in Italy so hoping to find a stream for the game so that I can watch on the ipad. I have to say that I’m trying to be patient regarding strengthening our attack, but my patience is starting to wear thin. I hope the team have it all under control but it’s starting to look like we are running out of options. Hope I’m wrong about that. I think we need a decent number 9, at least as good as Wilson and a right winger, although hoping Miggy shows the same form as in pre season. A decent number 10 would be the icing on the cake. I’d prefer Pacqueta over Maddison for what it’s worth.

Comment #258Buying Sesko with a view to loaning him back isnt on the cards. It was never an option with Ekiteke. We aren’t in a financial position to spend money on a forward who’s not even here to play. In my opinion Sesko ends up at old Trafford unfortunately

Comment #263There are several overseas fans (or those who live far away in general) who do not experience many of changes that the new owners make. This includes infrastructure changes, match day experience and so on. For them, whats visible is on the field activity i.e. football and transfers are a major part of it. That probably leads to impatience.

Comment #265Cant wait for the game tomorrow! I know we need another forward or two, but I think they will do the business before deadline day.
There are some really positives anyway:
-Eddie Howe has got a full preaseason with the squad and I cant remember last time we were so fit so early —> expect us to hit the group running and Get lots of points early on
-Bruno and Joelinton looks better and better in midfield
-our defence is rock solid and Botman looks class
-Almiron may be the one to watch, seems to really enjoy his RW role and he is scoring goals
-big seasons for willock and longstaff, expect more from them.
We are more than ready for the forest game, I predict 3-0! HWTL

I think that’s just spite against the north east in general. A few mackem lads at work always complain about the same thing. Like making them play on the south coast on a Monday night etc. I think it’s this region they despise, although the red and white half I understand why!
