Newcastle Announce New Long-Term Deal For Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe has signed a new long-term contract less than nine months since his appointment in November. The length of the deal was not disclosed but his initial contract had another two years left to run.

Howe has had a transformational impact at Newcastle United along with our new ownership group. He led the club out of the mire to 11th in the table and the highest points total since 2014.

This is what Howe said about his new contract:

“It’s a great feeling to commit my future to this incredible club. I’m extremely proud to be the head coach of Newcastle United and have enjoyed every moment here.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to acknowledge my coaching team, the players, staff, and supporters. They make it a very special place to be every day.

“I’d also like to extend my gratitude to our owners and to Dan Ashworth. We are still at the start of our journey, but this is an exciting time to be a part of Newcastle United and I’m very excited about the future together.”

Howe was asked how happy he was during his press conference this morning. He didn’t let on that this new contract was set to be announced. In his answer, he expressed that Newcastle had everything he needed, and more, to reach his goals as a manager.

The journey is just beginning as Howe comes off his first pre-season on Tyneside, and since 2019 with Bournemouth. The building blocks are slowly being put in place with Eddie Howe the face of the resurgent Magpies.

Sporting director Dan Ashworth is one of the key components to driving this club forward. He added the following on getting Howe tied down long-term:

“I’m delighted Eddie has committed his long-term future to Newcastle United. He is an incredibly talented leader and has had a huge impact since being appointed in November.

“In the short period of time I have worked with him, I have seen how much of a diligent, detailed, hard-working coach and leader he is.

“This is great news for the club and I am looking forward to working with Eddie and our colleagues on our exciting journey ahead.”

Well at least with Eddie extending his contract out for an additional 3 years that can put to bed the notion with linked players that Jose is not coming here and that they can go ahead and come and sign here now. 🙂

Team for tomorrow, Pope, Schar/bots, Miggy and Willock. Every other position obvious.
I mean Bots will play with Schar who is an obvious starter.

They’ve taken more points in 2022 than Arsenal and Chelsea.

They’re the only side in PL history to survive relegation after failing to win any of their opening 14 matches.

A team the Toon faithful can be proud of.

Watts and Anderson I believe are under the age limit so I reckon that Lewis, Fernandez and Gillespie will be the three to drop out of that list to make up the 25.

Although two new signings could alter that.

This was an unexpected, yet joyous surprise. Hopefully Howe earned himself a hefty bump up in wages, no doubting he’s earned it.

This is such a fantastic message of intent from the owners. It’s saying “we’re not like Everton or those other flash in the pan clubs. We want to do things the right way, build and give a head coach time, unlike other big clubs who change coaches more than they change urinal cakes.”

I’m over the moon about this.

I see a Spuds fan has a Kulusevski Hawaiian shirt which is pretty much identical to Big Joe’s but with Dejan’s face instead

I have a Hawaiian shirt without “a face” on it – I like to wear it when I’m singing John Prine’s “Let’s talk dirty in Hawaiian” 🙂 : )

@ITUNDERASHELL – I just love the message it sends out.

It says we’re not going to casually sack a head coach if results don’t go our way. You see it all the time, a team sack a coach with no one in mind to replace them with.

Eddie has such a clear plan and philosophy and it’s one that clearly the owners have seen, understood and indeed put into action.

We finished 11th last season…. Eddie’s key remit should be to improve on that and I firmly believe he will.

Wonder if there was an agreement in place to sign a new contract once he’d proved he was up to the job!

Which I hasten to add that he has done with flying colours!

We had three teams named ‘Abra Dubravka’ in our league last season and I was worried that we’d have none this year (we’ve always had at least one team with that name so far), so I’m glad someone has finally joined with that mighty pun. Well done 🙂

Fantastic news on Eddie getting an new long term contract, and just typical of the character and empathy of Eddie in acknowledging the roll the rest of the coaching team have played in our resurgence, we are very fortunate to have Eddie Howe at our club, a true professional in every aspect HWTL.

    I think it’s

    Pope
    Trippier, Schar, Botman,Targett
    S.Longstaff, Bruno, Joelinton
    Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin

Howe seems to be a big fan of Sean and he has looked fitter and more box to box in pre season. Willock should be pushing for a start and will be a useful impact sub.

Miggy I think as done enough pre season and has shown good link up play with Trippier. Plus he’ll score more than Grealish this season!

Anderson will get a good 20mins from the bench too I think.

    Check

I don`t think he will play 3 at the back tomorrow, but i agree he might play 3 at the back away from home to accommodate big Dan, and certainly according to the opposition.
