Newcastle Confirm Squad Numbers For Upcoming Season

Newcastle have confirmed the squad numbers ahead of the new season. There aren’t too many changes of note though Kieran Trippier will take the number 2 shirt with Ciaran Clark on loan at Sheffield. Trippier wore 15 last season.

Other changes are Matty Longstaff taking the number 27. Longstaff had two loan spells last season and previously had the number 4 shirt. That will now be worn by new signing Sven Botman.

Matt Targett keeps the number 13 which he wore when on loan. Nick Pope will wear the number 22 while Kell Watts has been given the number 31. Kell is currently recovering from knee surgery.

Elliot Anderson gets the number 32 which he has worn throughout pre-season. During his press conference this morning, Eddie Howe stated that Elliot could be an integral member of the squad depending how the window unfolds.

Here are the numbers for the upcoming campaign.

1 Martin Dúbravka

“But certainly the idea that if we want a player, we’ll get them over a club, like those saying if we wanted Cornet then we’d go and get him, doesn’t seem like that’s all that true.”

Does this comment sound like it come from a toon fan ?

    Neil,

“…the 30-year-old put in a tremendous amount of work ahead of pre-season to get into tremendous physical condition.”

    As a result, he’s injured
    ?

Reminds me of that Morecambe and Wise comedy.

They’re looking at a person laying on the ground:

    “He’s our best agent!”

“Well you can’t be much worse than im. He’s dead.”

He is superfit and injured too.

Last input for the day as some can’t seem to move on from it…

Ch, that’s a comments based on Howe this morning saying we’ve missed out on players to other clubs. It’s really not that outrageous of a comment considering what Howe said this morning, is it?

You seem to have some weird agenda to try and label some posters on here as ‘plastic fans’ or suggesting they’re not real toon fans.

The lady doth protest too much I think, comes across a bit like projecting 🙂

    Anyway, laters.

Howe mentions spending money wisely. £53m on Burn, Wood and Targett was awful business. I will go ballistic if he splashes out £40m on Jack Harrison instead of paying the £17.5m for Cornet. We can’t afford to waste money on average players.

Brighton will be laughing getting £60m for Cucurella. Great business that. Could get 4 top quality players with the money.

Christ alive you make it hard to not have to reply to defend myself haha

    cominghome

Not me, or anyone else has said Cornet and Lingard wouldn’t crawl here. Nobody has said that they chose clubs over us. Only you have made that conenction.

Howe said we’ve missed out on players to other clubs. Some players we’ve been linked with who have joined other clubs, some fans have said that if we truly wanted them, they’d join us. That might be true. But going off of Howe’s comments this morning, it also might not be true as he confirmed we’ve missed out on players to other clubs. He doesn’t name names, neither have I. I’ve only mentioned names as an example of some players fans have said this about.

I haven’t said any particular player chose another club over us. Howe hasn’t either. What Howe said is that we’ve missed out on players to other clubs. All i’ve said is that it’s probably therefore unlikely, that if we want a player then they’ll definitely choose us.

Absolutely last i’ll say on it now. It’s not being negative about the club, not saying any specific player has turned us down for another club and i’ve in no way suggesting we lack a pull. All i’ve done is point out something probable off the back of Howe’s comments.

It’s exhausting trying to explain this to you, but you repeatedly miss this point and try to suggest i’m saying something outrageously negative about the club which just isn’t the case.

You can have the last word on it now though if you like as it’s exhausting and I’ve said last post too many times now haha

Try using the whole quote of what i said:

“So who else we’ve missed out on, who knows. But certainly the idea that if we want a player, we’ll get them over a club, like those saying if we wanted Cornet then we’d go and get him, doesn’t seem like that’s all that true.”

Suggesting I don’t know who we’ve missed out, then use Cornet purely as an example of when fans suggest if we want a player we’ll get them. Still not me saying we missed out on him. Still just going off of Howe’s comments that we’ve missed out on players to other clubs.

So I don’t see your point or why you feel that shortened quote is proving something.

If there’s one thing that pisses me off, it’s when fans try to paint others as inferior fans for a number of reasons. Trying to suggest I don’t sound a toon fan for my comments is one of them, especially when it’s based on a point you’re making which isn’t true.

    Ch

You know whilst I am apparently not leaving for the day as you keep drawing me in to defend myself, i’ll go in more.

You regularly try to make fans feel like they aren’t as good as other fans; not true fans, plastic fans or less of a fan because they aren’t originally from the toon or don’t live up there.

I’d say that makes you the shittest type of fan. A true fan doesn’t attempt to make others feel like they’re inferior for the reasons above, or suggest they ‘sound like an everton fan’ or that ‘does this sound like a toon fan to you’ for a comment they’ve made. A true fan doesn’t think there’s some sort of fan hierarchy and that all fans of the club are on equal footing. For you to regularly suggest some fans are inferior, be it your famous ‘banter’ or not, is shitty behaviour and if anything makes you far worse of a fan.

Felt that for a while so thought I may as well get it off my chest as you’re trying to suggest i’m somehow a bad fan this morning.

Really winds me up when fans think they’re a ‘better’ fan than others.

Back off my hols and bugger all has changed, no new signings, which is a bit disappointing saying as we KO our season this weekend, and bloggers arguing over nowt.
I think it`s arrogant for any fan to think that just because a club has shed loads of money they can take any player they want from a club, that`s why Manure and their fans are hated, because of that attitude, and i don`t want to be classed in the same group as that self righteous lot.
As for new players coming in, i think the board could be waiting until the final few days of the window and turn the screw on selling clubs to get a better deal.
That just my opinion, but if they don`t bring in what we need by then, i will be wondering wtf is going on.
That`s me off oot on the lash

This year seems crazy cause so many clubs are spending big. Its going to be extra competitive. Without any new signings I see us finishing 9th at best given that every club usually has a few injuries to contend with as the season progresses.

On Eddies comment on missing out on players (am I jumping out of the frying pan?).
We all know the situation with Ekitike, but every approach for every player has a different set of variables.
To say not every player would jump at the chance to come here I feel is reasonable but not negative.
Reasons such as settled family, not wanting to be 2nd choice, wanting to play in London (of all places) or wanting to play for another club such as PSG are valid.
Also the club is looking to get the best bang for its bucks, if we don’t value players as much as some other club it may just be that (1) we feel they are overpriced but also (2) that we could use the money better to strengthen in another way.
It is rare to know exactly what a player is looking for until they sign, we certainly can not trust what agents, pundits and other managers say.
My feeling is that the club would like to bring in players who are either better than we have or offer something different rather than just squad players, the problem with that is many other PL clubs will be looking at the same players. They may be more desperate, be situated in a location more favorable to the player, offer the chance of more playing time or willing to pay more.
I understand any Geordie would give anything to play for NUFC but we need to be realistic not everyone outside of the NE feels this way.
I ask what is worse buy the wrong player or even buy the right one for way too much money or hold off until another window?
Every mistake we make now will come back to bite us with FFP rules down the line, ask Everton and Leicester fans.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of posts on here suggesting the club buy a player, from Mbappe to Lingard, Maddison to Cornet, you name it.
Every day fans naming players the club should go and get , as if it`s a given he will come.

People never learn assuming if a club spends big they will win everything. Only 1 team can win. Most of these players are not worth these fees. Only player worth his big fee was Cristiano for Real as he got them 4 champions leagues. Unless Neymar gets PSG that Champions league then his fee would be a waste and he is declining now so that 200mill was a waste. Maguire and Pogba biggest robbery in history
