Newcastle Confirm Squad Numbers For Upcoming Season

Newcastle have confirmed the squad numbers ahead of the new season. There aren’t too many changes of note though Kieran Trippier will take the number 2 shirt with Ciaran Clark on loan at Sheffield. Trippier wore 15 last season.

Other changes are Matty Longstaff taking the number 27. Longstaff had two loan spells last season and previously had the number 4 shirt. That will now be worn by new signing Sven Botman.

Matt Targett keeps the number 13 which he wore when on loan. Nick Pope will wear the number 22 while Kell Watts has been given the number 31. Kell is currently recovering from knee surgery.

Elliot Anderson gets the number 32 which he has worn throughout pre-season. During his press conference this morning, Eddie Howe stated that Elliot could be an integral member of the squad depending how the window unfolds.

It will be interesting to look at the bottom teams this season. Generally promoted teams come out of the blocks and play themselves into the ground. After 10-15 games they are knackered and slowly decline. World Cup will give them time to recover and go again. Could mean an established team (Everton?) could be tripped up.

After the arrival of Dan I expected us to sign a player or two that nobody had heard much about, as per Brighton, who then turned out to be top drawer. Anybody else?

I fully expect us to beat Notts Forest but Steve Cooper is a canny manager and I think they’ll do OK.

ESG, Kets has stated that Forest will stay up. Kiss of Death and Black Spot all in one.

Well at least with Eddie extending his contract out for an additional 3 years that can put to bed the notion with linked players that Jose is not coming here and that they can go ahead and come and sign here now. 🙂

Team for tomorrow, Pope, Schar/bots, Miggy and Willock. Every other position obvious.
