Here is a part of Eddie Howe’s press conference this morning, followed by a discussion among Sky Sports reporters.
They point out that Eddie Howe always has the right answer, but that he has always been truthful to reporters.
And it’s pointed out how Newcastle’s new owners have been so sensible this year in the transfer market.
Newcastle are already getting kudos from the press for the way the club is being managed by our owners, as well as Howe being so outstanding as our head coach.
Remember Eddie Howe saved us from relegation last year which was worth maybe up to £150M to the club and saves two years on the development of the club into a world powerhouse.
And of course great news this morning that Eddie Howe has been rewarded and signed a new long term contract to stay at the club.
His family have also moved up to live in Newcastle, which is another sign that Howe could be at Newcastle for many years to come.
Sounds good great to us.

Nice of you to say, but I always get off to an awful start on the FPL every year and then finish strongly. Hoping this year I’ve learned enough to do a little better in the first month or two. Have to keep telling myself not to panic and use my chips too early, which is what I usually do 😀

Comment #4So, no more Lawro. Sutton’s prediction:
“Newcastle, meanwhile, don’t have to worry about beating the drop this year. Eddie Howe did such a good job there in the second half of last season and, after it looked like they were in a big relegation fight, they stayed up very comfortably in the end.
Howe played a really good brand of football as well as getting results and I am expecting more of the same this time, although they do need some reinforcements up front.
They are trying to get James Maddison from Leicester but I don’t quite understand why they have left it so late before the start of the season to go for him, and we will have to wait and see how that one pans out.
As far as this game goes, it is another tricky one to call – but I am going for Newcastle to edge it because they have got home advantage.
Sutton’s prediction: 1-0.”

Comment #6And we’re up to 194 teams in the main league now, which is great! Let’s see if we can get 6 more in the next two hours and make it a nice round 200.

I think Ed’s main league stays open throughout the season.
The deadline is for the H2H leagues, the fixtures will be generated using the registered players at 18:30.

Comment #17Geordie hospitality is renowned as the best
But what goes on here can put that to the test
TDS and Adamn seem to get a hard time
Is it because neither were born close to the Tyne?
Mund’s minder in chief, Coming Home
Is particularly vocal, he’s like a dog with a bone
He says they’re plastic and fake and it’s just not right
And some other non Geordies have faced the same plight
They’re told they’re not Geordie’s so they don’t understand
What it means to be a real Toon fan
Of course some are more favoured and get a free pass
Especially if they’re prone to kissing Mund’s ass
But how ironic that the two worst culprits on the blog
Weren’t even born in the Toon, they were born doon the Smog!

I wasn’t sure if people missed joining the league for Gameweek 1 if their points still counted or if they forfeit for that GW? I also have the option of closing the league off to newcomers once the deadline is past, but I don’t bother doing that.
Whoever is in charge of H2H leagues 2 and 3 can go to their admin section and close those leagues if they like? Once the deadline has passed of course.

Comment #22I have to say, sadly, if Cucarella goes to Chelsea for £63m, we are not signing Maddison.
That’s over and done with. Time to focus on other targets.

Comment #24The owners and those running our great club are doing EVERYTHING right. I cannot think of another club who are making these big calls and getting them right the way they are.
Will they get some wrong, perhaps. But they do so much due diligence they know the risks.
I’m so excited about the journey we’re about to go on.

Comment #25Congrats to Eddie Howe on his new contract.
In Eddie I trust, within his back room staff I trust, with the owners I trust.
Mackems no trust.
A burglary was recently committed at Sunderland’s ground and the entire
contents of the trophy room were stolen. The police are looking for a man
with a Red and White carpet.
What’s the difference between a bus full of Mackems and a hedgehog?
A hedgehog has all the pricks on the outside!

Comment #26That Cucarella fellow is not worth £63 million. Bit of a flash Dan and a terrible barnet.
If he got a proper haircut he could probably run faster as there would be no drag caused by his unkempt mop.
i think todays “word of the day” is knacker – it has been used a lot – I think Cucarella will be a knacker.
Too many dodgy haircuts in football.

But we brought in just two new players. That’s just not enough, objectively speaking.
If we don’t bring in the two big players we’re expecting this will have been quite an average window. Watching the business other teams have done, now, on TV. They’re all looking to improve.

Comment #31Here the funny thing about the Maddison chatter.
Brendon Rodgers can say all he wants, it’s not his decision, if the owners decide to cash in on Mads then tough shite BR.
Leicester need to make a decision soon if they want to get players in like, the longer they wait the harder it will be for them with the window closing soon.

Comment #39Mund, it’s not what Chelsea has to do with it. But if you’re LC and Cucarella just went for £63m, you’re not raising your valuation on Maddison to over £60m?
I’d say of course you’d raise your valuation on Maddison. Cucarella is a good player, but I don’t see them in same neighborhood.
Now obviously, LC’s financial situation could have some impact. As will possible competing offers. It looked like the only competition for Cucarella was Man City, and they weren’t going anywhere near £63m.

Comment #40Mund, i know you’re the man who is generally in the loop with rumours and what not so maybe you can shed some light on this…… Mate of mine has just told me that it’s looking like it’ll be Dani Olmo who we are now actively pushing to sign, he’s saying that the Maddison deal is dead in the water?
