12 Minutes Of Video Highlights From NBC Sports – Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 0

Here are 12 minutes of video highlights from NBC Sports on our first game, and first win of the season – a dominating 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at a sold-out and roaring St. James’ Park.

Newcastle had to be patient and goals finally came in the second half from Fabian Schar (what a goal!) after 58 minutes and – who else? – Callum Wilson – after 78 minutes – a brilliant opportunist goal following a short cross from the left from Joelinton.

An excellent start, to what we hope is a very good season for Newcastle United.

I always have a thumb through the oppo forums on match day and pulled out this little nugget from a little nugget..

“Newcastle fans second only to Liverpool FC as media darlings”

Ahahaaa we petrol bombed Bruce’s house and pitchforked his family out of the northeast according to the press didn’t we?Media darlings my left testicle.

    Sir Bobby
I think Almiron has found his position at rw. He combines well with Bruno, who oftentimes plays him behind and through their defenders. He also easily cuts in, at will. He’s been excellent there and he’ll get goals too. Smile back on his face.

He was too much for them today as were ASM, Bruno and Willock. Schar was very good too, especially that strike.

Pope a 6 Charlie? Ok, he had nothing to do, then give him a ten :). Clean sheet means the whole back line scores high.

In any case, this was a solid dominant display from everyone, played them off the park.

I’ll gladly take this kind of display every game

Great performance from the lads today – even before we scored the football was a joy to watch – I was just a bit worried we were going to concede a sucker goal. What I was really impressed with was that once we had scored we just kept on playing the same game and not then defend for our lives like under a certain previous manager!
It’s funny at the game it was not so obvious that Bruno was having a good game (I would have given MotM to Joelinton) but obviously on TV Bruno was the standout player!

    Great performance today, should have been 4 or 5. Two points of improvement;

Trippier needs to cut out those sloppy passes, better teams will punish us.

Miggy needs to shoot with his right.

Can’t fault the effort and energy today. We’ll done lads!

Always thought we could upset City at home with it being an early season fixture and now even more so after witnessing the fitness levels of the lads.

Eddie has every single one of them ready to go at any moment. Amazing stuff

Good display today, got better when goals went in – we’ll have tougher games but you can only beat whats in front of you… Forest are gonna struggle and are rightly favourites for the drop

For those who wanted to know what Bruno said…

“Paqueta in black-and-white again? It is difficult to say,” Guimaraes admits. “I would love that! But I don’t work in this area, I am a player. I invited him and we play together in my garden. [The photo] was only this.”

EGB, on Colback. I knew him when he was a little ginger runt. Good as a youngster but didn’t cut it with us. Maybe trying to prove himself in his final years?
    Either way, don’t miss him

So pleased we have our unity back. Our fitness was clearly better than theirs but other teams will be less forgiving and more aggressive. Thought Callum was holding back a little so hope his strength and fitness continue to improve. Tell Max to go across the keeper with his shots and forget dragging them wide of the left hand post. Could have won that 5 nil.

Lovely game to watch. Great goal by Schar and to think that Bruceless didn’t rate him. How can anyone think he is a good coach is beyond me. A couple of key signings and who knows where we’ll end up in the table.
    Let’s go the lads!

Evening guys as you know I’ve been collating your predictions all week – I had a total of 106 posters giving their predictions which is a pretty good effort. I’ve ran some stats on the data which gives us the following summary:-

    Average League Position..7
    Average No. of Points…….61
    Average Goals Scored……62
Average L. Cup Round…..5 (Quarter Final)
Average FA Cup Round….6 (Quarter Final)

For Player of the Season a massive 60.4% went for Bruno followed by Botman with 13.2% and then Trippier with 6.6%.
For Top Goal Scorer – there was only one man – Callum Wilson selected by 92.5% of posters (trailing in his wake next was ‘Miggy’ with 2.8%) with an average number of goals scored of 17.

I have found in previous years that these mean/mode values are usually pretty close to the actual ones at the end of the season which would not be a bad season overall 😀

My Forest Irish buddy who was at it said it was a brilliant day. The geordies were tops and tried to get the Forest boys to come to a strip club!

OMG, did I enjoy that, collected the tickets i won, and believe it or not they were for the Platinum Club, a few rows behind mine, had a pre match drink with my son and his mates, and really enjoyed the day atmosphere the flags the music, and the game, so one sided first half, then that goal Shar brilliant, Wilson was quiet then popped up with that effortless goal,
The midfield trio Bruno, Joël, Joe, played fantastic with for me mom was Joelinton, and wasn’t it great to see the goalie, come off his line and catch the ball from a corner kick.
