12 Minutes Of Video Highlights From NBC Sports – Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 0

Here are 12 minutes of video highlights from NBC Sports on our first game, and first win of the season – a dominating 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at a sold-out and roaring St. James’ Park.

Newcastle had to be patient and goals finally came in the second half from Fabian Schar (what a goal!) after 58 minutes and – who else? – Callum Wilson – after 78 minutes – a brilliant opportunist goal following a short cross from the left from Joelinton.

An excellent start, to what we hope is a very good season for Newcastle United.

Whoa we are top of league …
    Being fat bastards
Top of the averages in waist size
    38.5 inches

    And that’s just the lasses

The survey was done last year so if they exclude Ashley and Micky Quinn and a couple of the lads who sit near us then it must be only 38inches

I still have a pair of 32 inch waist 501’s.

Been getting them out once a year to try on since the Millennium.

Nearly got them past my knees one year!

Yep I’m afraid I probably contribute to the negative waistline headlines too
Wonder what the hell that has to do with supporting a team
At least it shows we’re not allowing the worrying of the last 14 years to stop us eating lol

Irritating little club. De Jong wants nothong to do with them and has said so. He fancies Chelsea or staying put. What don’t they understand

Manchester United could offer Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek, 25, in a swap deal for De Jong. (Express)

Good win. Could have been five.

But we have to keep improving if we are to break the top 6.

I am curious as to why we left subs until very late. It was evident that Miggy and Willock were running out of steam circa 75 mins, we had reasonable subs in Murphy and Longstaff but persisted until last few minutes. Mind you despite the new rule that allows five subs many other teams seem reluctant to substitute as well.

We still don’t get enough players in the box. When Wilson scored we had been in or around their box for a while. It wasn’t a breakaway. But other than Miggy who was just inside the far corner no one else was in the box.

The strategy of hitting corners long to Burn reminds me depressingly of the same tactic with Williamson years ago. Didn’t work then. Need more ideas at corners.

But Spurs aside few of the Saturday teams looked particularly good, none looked like teams we should be apprehensive about. Looking forward with enthusiasm.

Burn wins a lot when it’s in his area on our corners. But he doesn’t get it back across goal. This was evident last year as well. He attacks the ball a bit awkwardly. Something for Eddie to work on because if he can get it back across goal we’ll be a threat.

Agree with what everyone is saying about Miggy, but he should not be on the right or right wing. Really should be just behind the front man. We need someone who can play the wing and sticks out wide. For me right now that has to be Fraser or Murphy, but think need to buy someone

I got a ticket for Man U last season, went and enjoyed, but had been to quite a few away games in the past. Now struggling to get any away tickets as I’m just under 30 on the points, only got 28. Lots of games now start at 150 points. Maybe need someone of here who could get one for you

After failing to score from many corners that were hit to Williamson at the far post they finally tried putting him at the near post. Scored first time! In fact it was slightly over hit but his presence was such a distraction that Whatshisname (went to Chelsea and hardly got a game) following up behind him got a tap in.
In my view 80% of corners should go near post.

After yesterday has anyone took the Eddie Howe effect into their calculations for the season…?

He will make this season a very special one indeed.

    He can walk on water…

He can change water into wine…

    He is the next messiah…

What Eddie Howe will achieve here at our wonderful football club will be extraordinary.

    Onwards and upwards

Gone is the stigmata of coming to Newcastle for an easy 3 points…

Gone are the days teams think they can turn us over and not get out of first gear…

Gone are the days when outsiders stood and laughed at us…

We are on the up and will trample anyone who gets in our way!

Always good to freshen it it up and catch opponents by surprise. Something worth keeping in mind though. If a team scores from 4 or 5 corners a year it’s a good return.

Yeah I want to see Willock and Joelinton flying into the box to get on end of cut backs and crosses same with ASM get the dirty tap ins that Salah and Mane get

So many times we got into the box sometimes the ball in wasn’t good but if you have numbers in the box it doesn’t have to be a great pass

Crazy day yesterday and trying to get sneaky updates in a graveyard after the burial, and wife giving me daggers.

Looked like we dodged bullets in the Villa centre back and that Forest dancing buffoon. Thing is though, even if we had them, Eddie wud sort them out and I don’t think some of our lads wud be slow in knocking sense into them.

Eddie must have loved coaching them pre season, with the time and space to implement his philosophy, without the grind of last seasons pressure cooker.

Two more players could really launch us, if we’re not launched already! Diaby may be a non runner, but that Rennes flier and Maddison.

Hope we strike while the iron is hot, don’t wait for January.

Much better team oriented play from Maxi, he just needs to work on the pass/shoot/release part of his game. Shoulda been one up before Schär scored, with an easy cut back to 2 unmarked Toonsters!
The South American midfield rocks, as predicted. Willock is finding his place. A bit more composure in front of goal and boom.

Morning guys – just in case anybody missed my post last night:-
As you know I’ve been collating your predictions all week – I had a total of 106 posters giving their predictions which is a pretty good effort. I’ve ran some stats on the data which gives us the following summary:-

    Average League Position..7
    Average No. of Points…….61
    Average Goals Scored……62
Average L. Cup Round…..5 (Quarter Final)
Average FA Cup Round….6 (Quarter Final)

For Player of the Season a massive 60.4% went for Bruno followed by Botman with 13.2% and then Trippier with 6.6%.
For Top Goal Scorer – there was only one man – Callum Wilson selected by 92.5% of posters (trailing in his wake next was ‘Miggy’ with 2.8%) with an average number of goals scored of 17.

I have found in previous years that these mean/mode values are usually pretty close to the actual ones at the end of the season which would not be a bad season overall 😀
