Eddie Howe Feeling Very Positive After Outstanding Performance

Newcastle start the new season with a superb performance and three points against Nottingham Forest this afternoon. The Toon Army witnessed a dominating outing from their Magpies en route to a 2-0 victory at St. James’ Park.

Moments of quality from Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson were worth the wait as Newcastle went into the break level despite a dominant first half. The quality shone through in the end as the Magpies were too much for Forest.

Eddie Howe got his team selection right with every player on the pitch making a difference. Dan Burn was superb at the back while Joe Willock’s performance could keep Sean Longstaff on the bench next weekend at Brighton.

This performance has given everyone a lift despite an already buoyant mood on Tyneside. After the match, a thrilled Howe touched on the positives of today’s excellent display. Here is what the boss said as published in Newcastle World:

I’m feeling very positive after watching that – I thought the players were excellent from start to finish. It was a performance of real promise.

“I’m always going to push the players for more – I said at that half-time, we had produced a very positive performance until the last action. We need to be more ruthless as we know tough this league can be.

“It was missing the icing on the cake – Fabian brought that. When he was lining up to shoot I was questioning his decision but it was the right one. He’s capable of the unexpected.

“We’ve got a few weeks left to try to get the right player that will make a difference for us.”

This was a perfect start to the campaign. On the back of his new contract, Howe has shown his fingerprints are now all over this team. The pre-season went very well and today’s match shows there is a lot to be excited about moving forward.

Here is the first of hopefully many post-win team pictures.

Do you consider Bruno world class…?

    Of course not,ya crazed Loon..

He’s not an established international,he has won foot all and he just played a blinder against a play off (sneaked in the back door to the Prem) Championship club..

Now if you had asked me.
“Do you think he has the potential,to become world class?”
    I would answer,yes it’s extremely possible..

When you think of all the crap players we have had, especially over the last decade.
    I think it’s easy to jump the gun,when we get a goodun…

Hopefully the recruiting team will be able to get that special player in that helps in the final third, Maddison would still be my personal pick.

Great win today, I am buzzing. Missed this.

    Charlie,

Get your scores up for the lads. I enjoy reading it, to see what you think, as you attend. I listened on the radio intermittently, as I was stuck in Ingram valley.

Well you couldn’t make it up!

On Thursday I was chomping at the bit to get back to St James’ after a very long absence. Then later that night I had a relapse, and was no better on Friday. However, I felt a little better this morning and the trip was back on. Then the footballing Gods intervened and the person who accompanies me to keep me safe was ill!!

So I had to listen on Radio Newcastle and whilst I enjoyed the match and the result, it was not as good as being at the Cathedral to see it in person.

Someone might be good enough to let me know how to watch matches on an android box when we are not on Sky or BT which I pay for.

    HWTL !!!

Bruno is definitely another level to what we’re used to. I’d call Targett or Burn a good un, but Bruno could walk into Liverpool or City, and make himself at home. I think he’s world class on that basis. We did very well getting him. Another like him up front and we’ll be nearly there… just my opinion though

Excellent win – Forest poor but we had to do the business
Pope 6 – had most likely his easiest game in the Prem one brief whoopsy near end of game when flapped at cross
Trippier 7 – not at his best today – passing let him down but in defence was excellent
Burn 8 – hopefully kept a few knockers quite today with an excellent game got in some great tackles
Schar – 8-5 excellent game in defence and some goal to cap it – showed our midfield forwards how to hit the ball
Targett 7 – steady game – got caught out near the end but apart from that did what he had to and linked up well with midfield
Joelinton 8 – carried nowhere he left off win every midfield duel – only let down was his shooting
Bruno 8-5 – Man of the match just – controlled midfield passing sometimes went astray but pulled most of the strings
Willock 7 -,started slowly but grew into game linked up well and won his fair share of the ball – another whos passing let him down at times – also tends to slow play down
Almiron 8 – would of been man of the match if he had a end product – countless times won the ball dribbled passed players crossed but but when he had a chance to shoot passed
St Max 8 – had good game caused them problems all game but again left his shooting boots at home
Wilson 8 – scored but left on his own too often and was chasing long balls up both wings when he should be in the centre. If Eddie sorts that out he get a hatful – still looks not up to full fitness
    Subs
Longstaff 5 – ok but passing well off
Fraser 5 – full of running but no end product
    Rest not on long enough

If we could get another class goalscorer and attacking midfield then we would have a very very good team

Fair enough. I asked as I actually couldn’t remember if you were one way or the other.

I’m not talking about an established world class player as that he is not but on ability wise alone he is world class.

A lot get this mixed up as perceptions are different.

Like 15 years ago or something Ronaldinho was asked this question…

“Ronaldinho how does it feel to be labelled the worlds best player?”

    For him to answer…

“I’m not even the best player at my club”

Do you think Ronaldinho knew there and then that they had a world class superstar on their hands…?

Love the photos after a team win; it must inspire the players when they look back on the photos of themselves.

But, how did Ryan Fraser end up standing next to Dan Burn in that photo.

I guess it goes to show the photos are not staged and are quite genuine.
