Eddie Howe Feeling Very Positive After Outstanding Performance

Newcastle start the new season with a superb performance and three points against Nottingham Forest this afternoon. The Toon Army witnessed a dominating outing from their Magpies en route to a 2-0 victory at St. James’ Park.

Moments of quality from Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson were worth the wait as Newcastle went into the break level despite a dominant first half. The quality shone through in the end as the Magpies were too much for Forest.

Eddie Howe got his team selection right with every player on the pitch making a difference. Dan Burn was superb at the back while Joe Willock’s performance could keep Sean Longstaff on the bench next weekend at Brighton.

This performance has given everyone a lift despite an already buoyant mood on Tyneside. After the match, a thrilled Howe touched on the positives of today’s excellent display. Here is what the boss said as published in Newcastle World:

I’m feeling very positive after watching that – I thought the players were excellent from start to finish. It was a performance of real promise.

“I’m always going to push the players for more – I said at that half-time, we had produced a very positive performance until the last action. We need to be more ruthless as we know tough this league can be.

“It was missing the icing on the cake – Fabian brought that. When he was lining up to shoot I was questioning his decision but it was the right one. He’s capable of the unexpected.

“We’ve got a few weeks left to try to get the right player that will make a difference for us.”

This was a perfect start to the campaign. On the back of his new contract, Howe has shown his fingerprints are now all over this team. The pre-season went very well and today’s match shows there is a lot to be excited about moving forward.

Here is the first of hopefully many post-win team pictures.

There you go, nowt like being proved wrong to make your Saturday that much better. A pleasing dominant display, allbeit would have liked a few more goals. Willock man of the match for me, looked very good today. On Wilson your club comes first, then England.

AncientC, BDB and Fraser always stand next to each other in the pics I think. Little and large, and all that. I think Burn of Fraser has said it in interviews.

We should have won 4 or 5 nil, I can see several good hammerings coming up for some teams from us this season.

Nice to see the refs allowing a bit of leeway in the tackling although Notts could easily have ended up a player or two short by the end of the game.

ASM absolutely terrorised their defence today, if he can keep that standard up he’ll win us a few pens this season.

My Kipper slapping dungeon is a lovely place, everyone comes out smiling and happy.

    Although a bit smelly! 🙂

Would play Almiron more centrally or swap him with ASM. He’s better from central/left positions. Being played out of position at the moment. I would sign Maddison, Diaby, Plea and another striker.

A serious question, do we miss Colback?

How far have we improved in 12 months since cabbage heed and Ashlie.
We should have had the game won by half time
Forest were poor or were we that good.
We will prove to be a hard team to beat this season.
Atmosphere in the ground is special and makes me so proud to be a fan.
    Howay the lads

    Sir Bobby
I think Almiron has found his position at rw. He combines well with Bruno, who oftentimes plays him behind and through their defenders. He also easily cuts in, at will. He’s been excellent there and he’ll get goals too. Smile back on his face.

He was too much for them today as were ASM, Bruno and Willock. Schar was very good too, especially that strike.

Pope a 6 Charlie? Ok, he had nothing to do, then give him a ten :). Clean sheet means the whole back line scores high.

In any case, this was a solid dominant display from everyone, played them off the park.

I’ll gladly take this kind of display every game.

Bill would you gaurantee my health and safety if i was to spend an night in your kipper slapping dungeon :D:D On Jack Colback i thought he was possibly their, best player today in what was a very poor and disjointed team, i fear their stay in the premier league will be a short one HWTL
