VIDEO – Newcastle’s Two Goals In Dominant Display – A Stunner From Schar

Newcastle were dominant in the game this afternoon against newcomers Nottingham Forest, but had to wait until the 58th minute to go ahead, with a stunning goal from center-back Fabian Schar.

It was an absolute screamer from Swiss International Schar that was the breakthrough for us after 58 minutes: a fabulous goal.

Our best chance before then had come in the first half, when Joelinton missed a chance of his own making, when he dragged his shot wide when it was easier to score than miss.

And then in the 78th minute Callum Wilson opened his account for the season with a good goal after being set up by Joelinton, who along with Guimaraeas and Willock, were dominant in midfield.

This was a skillful, and hard-working Newcastle team who had to remain patient after a dominant first half.

When the game was won, Eddie Howe did introduce Sven Botman for his debut on 90 minutes, but with Burn and Schar playing so well, the Dutchman may have to wait a bit for his first start.

It was a pleasing display this afternoon and a great result in front of a sold out St. James’ Park.

Joelinton, Bruno, Maxi and Shar was our best players in my opinion. Trippier, Target and Wilson wasnt at their best, but it was still enough and Wilson had a pure class goal. How amazing this team would be with Paqueta and Diaby. Im still hoping for a nice surprise before the window shuts.

That’s the kind of confidence which saw him persist today.

Not at his sharpest for most of the match, knew it himself, persisted and made it right. After the goal he was excellent too.

I doubt Southgate will take notice though even if he’s on 10 by November.

To be honest, we could do with him having that mid-season break, if we’re being selfish.

Has a chance to notch 30+ league matches given how this season is structured.

St James’ Park is a difficult place to come with Eddie Howe at the helm and the Newcastle fans behind the team.

Nobody will fancy the trip, that’s guaranteed.

This is a good team that you can see has been coached.

I don’t think Forest are that bad a team, I just think we didn’t let them play their game at all today.

They looked like us before Eddie, giving the ball back almost immediately time and time again.

Mund..when I watched Wilson talking about the world Cup…nothing would please ne more in sport to see him in at least the squad…but don’t you think, because GS is a typical suite and we rubbed Masters face in it with the t/o he’s being a little naive/hopeful?

Brighton have lost Bissouma and Cucurella.

Added 18yo and 20yo kids to their forward line and that youngster from Chelsea to their backline.

How motivated are their remaining quality players like Trossard going to be with the direction of the club and one-year left on his deal?

I can see them having a poor season and Potter leaving to replace Southgate after the World Cup.

We should have every confidence in doing similar to them what we just did to Forest.

As you will know mate strikers can be anonymous for huge parts of the game but they have to always be ready and still making the same runs etc and hope that an opportunity comes. Goals win you games and that’s what the big man in Wilson is for and today he took his goal excellent. What a brilliant finish which he had no right to do from the position he was in.

We keep that lad on the pitch and he will guarantee to score goals and if we could have a fit Wilson all year he could easily get to 20 PL goals IMO be a big ask that but hopefully we can keep him fit and scoring goals.

Him and Antonio have got a bet on who will score the most PL goals as they did last year. I hope Wilson smashes it

If Wilson stays fit there is no way Antonio stands a chance, particularly with Scamacca arriving there you would think would limit his playing time.

    Catchy

    Aye, noted immediately the similarity.

You don’t let Schar tee off from there under no pressure!

Valle – exactly! If we could get two World Class players like that in it would absolutely transform us. As much as I like Almiron he’s too wasteful. A player of higher quality would have put those chances away and we’d have been 2-0 up in the first 30 mins.

It’s easy to say Almiron did well in hindsight after we’re 2 up. If that ended a draw I don’t think we could say that.

    Key words

That have been coached. It stands out like a sore thumb.

Pretty much every coach since the great SBR ( Chris H aside) they have all been here picking up wages and playing easy long ball football.

Now we have movement, 12s give and goes, willing runners, players knowing how to cover each other.

Outstanding to watch, and yes we will get beat, and probably by weaker teams, but at least i know every week the team is trying to win, and not just settle for a point that they had at the beginning of the match, and hope for free kicks and the odd corner to get people in the box.

Although Miggy has no end product, he tires me out just watching him, God knows what he does to the defenders. Gives the other guys space towards end of game.
