VIDEO – Newcastle’s Two Goals In Dominant Display – A Stunner From Schar

Newcastle were dominant in the game this afternoon against newcomers Nottingham Forest, but had to wait until the 58th minute to go ahead, with a stunning goal from center-back Fabian Schar.

It was an absolute screamer from Swiss International Schar that was the breakthrough for us after 58 minutes: a fabulous goal.

Our best chance before then had come in the first half, when Joelinton missed a chance of his own making, when he dragged his shot wide when it was easier to score than miss.

And then in the 78th minute Callum Wilson opened his account for the season with a good goal after being set up by Joelinton, who along with Guimaraeas and Willock, were dominant in midfield.

This was a skillful, and hard-working Newcastle team who had to remain patient after a dominant first half.

When the game was won, Eddie Howe did introduce Sven Botman for his debut on 90 minutes, but with Burn and Schar playing so well, the Dutchman may have to wait a bit for his first start.

It was a pleasing display this afternoon and a great result in front of a sold out St. James’ Park.

    Now my boring side …again?
There’s a lot of half hearted attempts to control advertising/betting yet every 10-15 mins Sky (not the only ones) tell you how good it is to bet responsibly…with a smile from break yer legs Ray Winston…know what ah mean guv..sniff.
If any of these greedy leeches meant it, betting..like tobacco would be banned 100%

Aye, I saw it. Antonio banking on a Wilson injury. I think he knows he was lucky to win last season, but pride can’t stop him from quitting while he’s ahead 😆

Today I got get the sense despite the lack of attacking signings, we are much better prepared and warmed up for the season than most.

Been a focused pre-season with us clearly working on very specific things and it showed today.

Been the first real period Howe’s had to work with the entire squad for a prolonged period.

Was crisis mode last season, trying to juggle results with putting the pieces together of a broken team between matches that came thick and fast, and when there was periods of down time, we had only part of the squad with together with internationals away.

Come on Chelski… never thought I would say that. If I bet, and I don’t ….. would put 50p on Everton , Aston Villa and Forest to go down

Not sure why Miggy is getting a little greed today, i actually think he had a solid game, willing runner, put some good balls in and always showed for the ball.
If I was to pick one player, it would be Wilson, i think he seemed to be taking it easy, never really ran any channels, had a few good opportunities, but still got on the score sheet. I felt he was a bit reluctant to push.

But hey, I’m splitting hairs here

TPM, betting firms are banned from 2024 season I believe. No shirt sponsorship and no adverts. Thank God

I know why I do not like Villa, why do I not like the toffees? Got it. A midweek home game in 1970’s, they kicked the ball out of the ground 3 times (over the old home stand with dug out) and just wanted a 0-0. Never liked them since.

I agree… Wouldn’t most fans have liked an upgrade such as Diaby?. Miggy is a good squad player as you say, but he has been hyped a bit because of his preseason. In reality he lacks end product and often shoots when he should pass. But that said, no on can fault his heart and work rate.

It has definitely shined through in preseason and today. I was a little surprised of how well he had the team playing and how fit and prepared the lads were during preseason and thought that will only benefit us in trying to carry on were we left off last season.

Very impressed but shouldn’t be surprised from Eddie the record breaker Howe

Ok now you got me on my soap box now, curse you xxxxxxx.

The thing that bugs the sh hit out of me is plastic, they tell you not to use it, but it seems like they cover everything you could ever think of in plastic, my daughter is 10, she has about 10, little LOL dolls, these come wrapped in about 7 layers of plastic.
They tell you don’t eat bacon, because it has nitrates in it, but the average person eats a credit cards worth of plastic every 2 weeks.

Governments are simply not fit for purpose, every single big organization that is set up for the common man, only helps big companies. And it doesn’t matter which party is in power, they all range from crazy, to insane.

Schar at £3m has to be one of our best buys ever.

Classy CB, warrior spirit, with 10 goals in 90 matches, some absolute brilliant ones in amongst them. Not to mention they’re often moments like today, stepping up with a moment of magic to break the deadlock, important goals.

I don’t think there was a clearer case of a player thinking Bruce was a moron than him. Completely went off the boil because he simply had a lack of respect for a chancer and didn’t want to be here – under him.

    Wilson
Will get a hatful of goals if he stays in the middle instead of chasing the ball down both wings. Yes he gets the ball but when he passes it he has to get back to the middle.
As for the game should of had at least half a dozen
Schar showed the midfield when getting a shooting opportunity put your foot through it
Time and time again we over elaborated around the box
    All in all good display

Brilliant 1st half only missing a goal. Great effort from everyone. Brilliant football at times. Just couldn’t score until Schar strike. Joint motm Schar and Bruno. We definitely need a Wilson alternative. Worse player was Wood. Hopefully be gone in January. Wilson has good movement in box but what I would like is a defender bullier ala Drogba Costa type

That Mighten of Forest looked good when he came on.

    Missed the bus so repost.

Dominant display from start to finish, should have won by more.
Bruno top draw again, along with joelinton.
Found miggy frustrating, needs to use his right peg more instead of cutting back.
Still a good display from him though.

Everton will be relying on pashun of the home performances this season.

If they start the season poorly it will become a negative atmosphere again and could spiral.
