Newcastle return to St. James’ Park this afternoon to face defending champions Manchester City. The Citizens have started the season with two wins and, like Newcastle, have not conceded a goal.
During Eddie Howe’s press conference, he revealed that Matt Targett’s availability would be a game-time decision. The left-back hasn’t trained much, if at all, so I suspect he will not be risked.
Howe could go with the same eleven that picked up a point at Brighton. Dan Burn played well on the left and could get the call again. If so, Sven Botman would be in line to make his full home debut.
With the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Howe most likely won’t make any changes. He can rotate the squad at Tranmere to give the rest of the squad some early-season action.
There are four matches over the next ten days so Howe will have to make use of his squad at some point. Thankfully, there is only one long-term injury at the moment with Jonjo Shelvey out until November.

Our poll shows that fans have a fair amount of optimism for today. Just under 50% of voters are predicting a result, which would be fantastic and keep Newcastle firmly near the top of the table.
This will be a difficult match and the lads will have to be close to perfect. It’s a very good test against the league’s best.
