Newcastle face a difficult test at Wolves this afternoon as the lads try to continue their excellent start. The Magpies are unbeaten and have a chance to climb into a European place with a win today.
Wolves have struggled to start their campaign with just one point. They did pick up a win against Preston in midweek in the Carabao Cup. Preston incidentally are unbeaten in the Championship with Freddie Woodman keeping six straight clean sheets.
This is the team I am predicting Eddie Howe will name this afternoon. It has just two changes from the 3-3 draw against Manchester City with Chris Wood in for the injured Callum Wilson and Matt Targett in at left-back.
Howe has a decision to make at center-back between Dan Burn and Sven Botman. Burn has been at left-back in Targett’s absence but, if he is fully recovered from his concussion, could keep Botman out of the starting eleven.
Newcastle will be without at least three Magpies for this one. Ryan Fraser faces a late fitness test while we heard the devastating news yesterday that Emil Krafth will be out of action for months.
Newcastle Injuries
Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring), Callum Wilson (hamstring), Emil Krafth (knee), Ryan Fraser (groin – late fitness test)
Wolves Injuries
Chiquinho (knee), Willy Boly (undisclosed – late fitness test)
Fans are optimistic Newcastle will remain among the unbeaten with over 90% expecting a result in our poll. Almost 70% see the Magpies picking up a win which would be simply fantastic.

We could see a debut from new signing Alexander Isak this afternoon. The Swedish striker was unveiled on Friday and is the club’s new record signing.

Comment #4I saw my old mate Geordie Tom’s name cropped up yesterday in a comment about using alts.
As I’ve been accused of being a few alts myself (and having been locked out of an email) I thought I’d run with this…
‘Bill Smith’ posted here but not for too long
I said he was from Derby, then whoosh,he was gone
If you’re still reading Bill, I have a favour to ask
As there’s nobody else is who is up to the task
As I believe you’re in Derby and that’s where he’s from
Can you take a look in the mirror and have a quick word with Tom
You see if he’s hacked Jail’s files then he’s probably hacked mine
As I was his number one enemy for quite some time
It’s just that the password for the email I use here
Has disappeared into the ether, forever I fear
It got accidently deleted and can’t be retrieved
And then I remembered it was probably thieved
So if it’s ok with you could you please ask yer man
To find it in the file marked ‘My Alts’ if he can
But don’t post it on here as it could compromise me
Just send it via email then only Micky will see!
😀

Comment #13The obvious straight swap formation is:
Murphy—–Wood—–Almiron
Joelinton–Longstaff–Willock
Target-Botman-Schar-Trippier
—————-Pope
Howe has consitently been loyal to players in position and introduced new transfers gradually (at least not started them frist off).
Playing the same formation will breed consistency, but I am not sure playing away at aside that dominate midfield and play wingers cutting in, may require a change.

Comment #14If I were a Sunderland fan I’d be pretty p!ssed off with Alex Neil, a lot of us (not me) might hate them but they are a bigger club than Stoke so it’s a real kick in the teeth for them.

Comment #15There is no indication in this article that Maxi is injured so i why would he not be starting ?
I see nearly 70% have gone for the win, that is the kiss of death.
Let`s turn this franchise around and actually win a game when the fans are so confident.

I get what your saying but Sunderland had him on a 1yr rolling contract so he was always 6 defeats in a row away from the sack!
His timing & how he went about it was terrible though!

Comment #24If Longstaff is in our midfield we will lose, he is shite.
He might wear the shirt but i`m calling a spade a spade and won`t sugar coat it, he is shite.
No pace at all, slow on the ball, loses possession far too often, and can`t hit a barn door with a shovel any longer.
We will be playing with ten men basically

Comment #28Bruno and ASM out?!! Where’s that come from?!! Not heard a thing.
Essex geordie Bill – I thought that too about Neil but after reading a few things I can understand why he left. As much as I dislike Sunderland, they are a massive club compared to Stoke. But they only offered Neil a 1 year rolling contract and didn’t sign anyone.
