Newcastle have announced that Kell Watts has joined Peterborough on loan until January. Watts is currently recovering from a knee injury but is expected to return in October.
Best of luck, Kell! ?
????
— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) September 1, 2022
This is the fifth loan spell of Kell’s burgeoning career. He’s had previous stints with Stevenage, Mansfield, Plymouth, and Wigan. Watts has plenty of experience in League One having spent the previous two campaigns there with the Pilgrims and the Latics.
Peterborough are trying to bounce back into the Championship after their relegation. Kell helped Wigan gain promotion last season so his experience will be a bonus at London Road.
Posh boss Grant McCann is thrilled to have Watts on board saying the following:
“I am delighted to get Kelland. He won the league with Wigan Athletic last season at this level.
“He is 6ft 4, strong in the air and comfortable on the ball, and is a left-sided center-back, so I am pleased we have managed to get it over the line.
“He has a really good pedigree and is an excellent defender.
“The only downside to it is that he is currently injured, it might take him three or four weeks to get back and available for selection, but we wanted to wait for him.
“We had other options that we were exploring, but he was top of the list and we were prepared to wait because of how good a player he is.”
Watts’s injury prevented him from impressing Eddie Howe this summer. He suffered the injury in mid-July and was forced to go under the knife soon after. He should get three months with Posh before his situation is re-evaluated at St. James’ Park in January.

Yeah, they didnt have much choice did they?
It is great us having our opinions here but we would have done the same.
This is why we think we need more though, and want more. We can easily see the problems that need fixing. So can they.
But unfortunately buying players isnt like picking stuff off amazon.
There is a good time and bad time to buy players. A good price, bad price etc.
We have to be patient… and i am trying to do that.
Regardless of my impatience i support how they are going about it 100%

Comment #5WLG – I don’t blame most of those big 6 for not loaning players to us. How stupid would they look if they loan us a player, we have a blinding season and beat them to 4th by a point? It’s possible! Probably it’s in Man City’s interest as we’re not going to threaten for the title but have they loaned any players out that we’d want? I’d be surprised if Man Utd, Arsenal, or Spurs will loan us anyone. Chelsea…maybe…

Comment #7Yeah Geordie 157 he’s injured till October but good luck to the lad he was well thought of at Wigan who wanted him back this season in the Championship. So he’s making progress along with the other young lad Bondswell who we may keep in the squad as he doesn’t take up a place. Only problem is he is another left back .

Comment #10TDS but they need to loan players out, for their development, if they are not likely to play or haven’t got a place in the squad . They obviously can’t play against their host club.
I think Chelsea in particular will have big problems this season keeping all their players happy especially with the players they have brought in for megabucks.

Comment #13That’ll teach me for not reading the article that Watts is injured but nice to hear the manager rates him.
Forgot about Bondswell, makes sense for him to go out on loan, just need to find the right club for him.

I completely agree. Plenty of places to strengthen in the squad if we’re honest but it’s going to be gradual, which is fine with me.
We aren’t in the position of Forrest where they needed numbers just to get a team on the pitch. We have a good core as was proven by the second half of last season, so just adding a little quality is the way to go.
It seems odd as a few players who look suitable haven’t moved or have gone elsewhere, but there will be plenty reasons I’m not aware of.

Comment #17Villa sign Dendoncker so Douglas Luiz must be off.
Wouldn’t mind signing Ramsay from them, when they get relegated.
Shame we didn’t go for Kamara, would have given us the DM we need and another good young player.
However, still another good window and they’ll bring in another couple in Jan too probably.

The Deli Ali podcast was very good actually. They talked about a few key points.
– injury, he lost that little burst of pace he had over 4/5 yards what left him best a man with his trick and get away
– the rise of Son. As he got a better partnership with Kane, he moved more central and Deli had to drop deeper, not suiting his game as he doesn’t carry the ball far or play standard passes well
– he burst onto the scene and did the mercurial stuff exceptionally well, so never had chance to develop the core skills needed for a midfielder… almost a victim of his early success
– Not many teams play in a way which suits his style, particularly bigger teams where he’d be more suited… it’s all high press, fast passing, etc and less on individual skill
If he’d been born 15 years earlier, could easily have seen him as a Cantona type player at a top club.

We had perhaps 3-4 of our best players out and we could have beaten one of the best teams in the world.
You cannot buy replacements for that..its crazy.
We don’t need to buy anybody right now. It is an iterative process and for now, its going perfectly.
I was critical of not signing a striker and they did it, Isak looks awesome.
We are done until Jan, next summer.
Chill out…our team can beat anybody in this league. They wont, but they can.. that is huge progress.

Comment #22WLG – Chelsea might loan players to us if they don’t see us as a threat to their position this season but why would other clubs do that? It’s not about taking points off them, it’s about us getting more points than them. Why would Man Utd loan us a player and we then end up getting 6th from them? I know we just loaned them Dubs though so maybe there’s some deal to be had there, though I still find that odd.

Comment #30Regarding yesterday’s injury time, apparently Pope was down injured during injury time for exactly 94 seconds. Also apparently, the corner that Liverpool scored from was exactly 94 seconds after the minimum 5 minutes were up. A little extra time was apparently added due to Joelinton going down with cramp and (again apparently) a goal kick taking about 30 seconds. So the ref seemingly decided to let the corner play out.

Comment #33Ball as in play when joe went down TDS …..and if refs start adding on time for every single time the ball is out of play (corners goal kicks) we’d still be playing now …..i now ref added time notice is a minimum but when do they ever go like 4 mins over …..also what happened to a minute per sub?

Comment #37Naptoon – according to what I read, Pope was down for 94 seconds, corner went out at 96.34 (exactly 94 seconds after the minimum), so there’s a good case to say let it play out and then blow the final whistle. 30 seconds for a goal kick sounds like time wasting so I’ve no issue with the ref allowing that last play to account for any time wasting.
