Newcastle End Excellent Summer Window With Four Quality Additions

The first summer window under our new ownership group has slammed shut. Newcastle didn’t add a fifth signing on deadline day so the tally stands at four new signings for the first team with another four for the academy.

The net summer spend stands at around £112m. It was mission accomplished as Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Sven Botman, and Alexander Isak have added immense quality for Eddie Howe to build with. The club were also able to shift out a lot of excess members of the squad.

Here is a look at this summer’s window sans the youth signings.

Newcastle were in for West Ham’s Harrison Ashby today. David Moyes was unwilling to let the youngster leave as he is their third-choice right-back. The 20-year-old was reportedly keen on the move, which may be revisited in January as he has just one year left on his contract.

Newcastle should be fine until the winter window opens as the World Cup cuts six weeks out of the campaign in November and December. There are just 14 matches until January including the Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace in November.

Here are the players who remain with Emil Krafth to be left out of the 25-man squad due to his knee injury. Elliot Anderson does not count against the squad total as he is under 21.

  • Goalkeeper – Nick Pope, Karl Darlow, Mark Gillespie
  • Center-back – Paul Dummett, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn
  • Full-back – Kieran Trippier, Jamal Lewis, Matt Targett, Emil Krafth, Javier Manquillo
  • Midfielder – Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes
  • Winger – Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser, Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron, Matt Ritchie
  • Forward – Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Chris Wood

Jane – I left out Shelvey because I don’t think he’s going to be fit before the World Cup.

I can only assume, that the club has targets that weren’t available at this time.

Whether it’s Jan? or more likely next summer,I’m sure they have it covered.

FFP has obviously being at the forefront of their business plan.

Rom – the 25 man squad list will get finalised over the next few days. No point in adding Krafth to it when he can’t play. They can then submit a changed squad list after the January transfer window closes too, so Shelvey and/or Krafth could be added then if they’re fit or going to be fit.

Clubs are required to submit their 25-man squad list of registered players to the Premier League tomorrow – a day after the transfer window slams shut.”

Here’s what Eddie said about squad and Jonjo.

With Shelvey not due back until after the World Cup, Howe was asked if there was a possibility the midfielder could be left out the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.

The 44-year-old said: “It’s a good question to chuck at me!

“I’d say he’ll be in the squad without giving 100% guarantees because we need to see how his rehab goes.

“If there’s a chance he’ll be back and chance to play, which at the moment we think there is, he will be in that squad.

“If that changes, and it looked like he wouldn’t, obviously there might be a different discussion.”

Really looking forward for the season. We have a decent points tally from the games we’ve played so far.

If we keep progressing under Howe and key players are fit for the majority of games, we’ll do well. Possibly top 8. With bad injuries we may be looking top 10/12.

Hopefully we have more targets available in January or even next summer. Bit shocked we didn’t get a loan player to try and see us through, but we mustn’t have had anyone suitable available.

Thank god transfer season is over and we can just focus on the football again.

I’m still a bit worried about the lack of depth in midfield and on the wings but overall a good window with a couple VERY exciting signings.

We have to remember what windows were under Ashley- compared to that it’s phenomenal.

Jane – it’s possible that Shelvey is back before the World Cup so he might be registered if that’s the case. If he’s definitely not going to make it, they may as well register 24 so they’ve got a spot left if they manage a free transfer for the 25th spot.

SPRINGY, I think ya right mate Rodgers will be tnefi4st to go. Leicester bubble has burst, but who would go there better than him knowing all their best players will be gone soon. Not sure what happened to their project. I get the feeling Leicester owners are gearing up to sell the club.

Good evening lads and lasses have to say overall happy with our transfer business but was hoping for 1 more in on loan today at least but no point if it’s not going to improve what we already have … still gutted about last night but super proud of how we performed and think we limited them to few clear cut chances to the point they were getting rattled and then the sucker punch with the last kick of the game which I had a bad feeling about … in the plus side we played them and matched them without arguably out 3 most important players – have to say Isak impressed me and his finishes were top class

ToonDarnSarf, thanks mate but seriously I’m not who you all believe I am and it really feels like I’ve stepped into a mental asylum on here at times. It’s absolutely nuts. Posters I don’t know coming at me with derogatory insults for no reason at all. Not normal, I’m a quiet go easy lad who does have a bit of a joke with me mates and have been on here over the last few days all light hearted stuff, but fkr some stranger to go atme like he did is worrying for the lads mental health. I have no grievances with him, just hope it’s just the drink talking tonight, as I don’t know the kid and he certainly doesn’t know me. But thanks anyway as youre right the blog is a better place and long may it continue. Ashingtoon62 honestly your not alone just reach out.

All I care about is that this blog is a good place to come to for some Toon chat and banter. I have no strong feelings towards Fenham either positive or negative and the same goes for you.

Aparently Kenedy has finally left Chelsea for La Liga….at the age of 26.
Isn’t it amazing that a club is allowed to hog players, pay them ridiculous wages without it impacting their first team squad.

    Transfers / loans OOT competition

10 in total, but we discounted any young’uns – Matty Longstaff, Elliot Anderson, Kell Watts, Dan Langley etc from entries and the numbers adjusted accordingly.

    Which makes 7 OOT a winning score…

    Martin Dúbravka OOT
    Ciaran Clark OOT
    Isaac Hayden OOT
    Jeff Hendrick OOT
    Federico Fernández OOT
    Freddie Woodman OOT
    Dwight Gayle OOT

Only 2 people went with 7 OOT, and on count-back NY Mag had the most correct names (5)

    NY Mag 7

    Well done NY Mag!!!
