Newcastle End Excellent Summer Window With Four Quality Additions

The first summer window under our new ownership group has slammed shut. Newcastle didn’t add a fifth signing on deadline day so the tally stands at four new signings for the first team with another four for the academy.

The net summer spend stands at around £112m. It was mission accomplished as Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Sven Botman, and Alexander Isak have added immense quality for Eddie Howe to build with. The club were also able to shift out a lot of excess members of the squad.

Here is a look at this summer’s window sans the youth signings.

Newcastle were in for West Ham’s Harrison Ashby today. David Moyes was unwilling to let the youngster leave as he is their third-choice right-back. The 20-year-old was reportedly keen on the move, which may be revisited in January as he has just one year left on his contract.

Newcastle should be fine until the winter window opens as the World Cup cuts six weeks out of the campaign in November and December. There are just 14 matches until January including the Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace in November.

Here are the players who remain with Emil Krafth to be left out of the 25-man squad due to his knee injury. Elliot Anderson does not count against the squad total as he is under 21.

  • Goalkeeper – Nick Pope, Karl Darlow, Mark Gillespie
  • Center-back – Paul Dummett, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn
  • Full-back – Kieran Trippier, Jamal Lewis, Matt Targett, Emil Krafth, Javier Manquillo
  • Midfielder – Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes
  • Winger – Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser, Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron, Matt Ritchie
  • Forward – Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Chris Wood

Let’s be fair mate, you were throwing insults at me left right and centre last night whilst I hid for cover 😉

Hopefully my presence here, at the same time as ToonDarnSarf, can go some way to removing your conviction that I was him on an alt haha

    Nice try guys

But I’m afraid that won’t do.

To prove you’re not an alt, you and your alleged alt have to post with identical time stamps.

Fenham and Little Davey managed it 3 times.

    😆

Lmao. Hey TDS, hope you’re well mate.

Football talk – not toooo sad at us ending the window without any last minute additions. A little disappointing, but how often do last minute transfers ever actually happen for us, so wasn’t expecting anything.

Howe always talks long term, so do the owners, and am enjoying the ride

ToonDownSouth – all good thanks fella, hope you are too. Don’t see you around as often these days.

I kinda hoped that things would be different on TDD with the new ownership so I must admit that I expected a signing or two to be completed today. Little disappointed with that but overall delighted with the direction our club is going and excited for the season!

Off to bed now but hope to see you around more in future. And don’t be causing any trouble in my name while I’m sleeping! 😉

There’s a long history of folk talking to themselves over the years and tripping up with hilarious consequences. Mostly harmless but I’d rather it was kept honest.

I’m not sure Ashington’s picking arguments but he might just be exposing another alt user.

If the Blog’s owners have introduced a rule that says the use of alts is taboo, then they need to monitor posts and act on said rule or ignore them and let the alts do as they please.

Surely we could have got more than 1m for Woodman? that’s bad business, should’ve loaned him out to a bigger Scottish team or out on the continent to get his value up before selling him for at least 8m.

Now we have two or you posting, is there any chance you could agree abbreviations shorthand your names.

ToonDarnSarf, you’re known by TDS but unless ToonDownSouth comes up with a unique shorthand tag, we’re gonna see some confusion.

    From the BBC:

Now they have finally stopped buying players, we can confirm Nottingham Forest have broken the British record for most signings in a window.

They brought in 21 signings this summer following their promotion to the Premier League.

That surpasses the previous British record, held jointly by Livingston in summer 2001 and Dundee United in 2000 (19 signings, according to football website Transfermarkt).

    Blimey!

Well Fenham may or may not be back, it can’t be proved. But one thing that can be seen by looking at Scorer’s posts is the phantom hearter has returned. I was thinking best way to tell if it’s Fenham is to see if he starts getting just over 20 hearts at quiet times. Although that could be the real Fenham lurking and just loving Scorers’ posts. Much like Little Davey, TeDiouS and the others, We’ll never know for certain.

A more peaceful day with the window shut…

We are building slowly…We have owners who address big gaps in the squad…I dont expect much in January, unless there are long term injuries…But expecting a slightly quicker rebuild next summer with sponsorships in place…Maddison Alvarez Diaby (2 outa 3)…Its a good ride for the fans…Heres hoping injuries dont derail us too much this year…

Well thank gawd for that. The transfer window is done and dusted and now the season begins proper. My take on it is, l if we get the disappointment of deadline day and the non arrival of a midfielder which is only natural given the majority of fans thought that area would be strengthened, then imo this has been an excellent window added to the one in January. Although we may well have signed two of the best young prospects in European football, for me, the two most important signings this summer were Ashworth and Eales, you only have to pull up articles about either to realise what they’re all about, and while Ashworth is one of the best in the business, Darren Eales is the stand out number one expert in the world in his field. His importance is going to be huge.
There is obviously a plan in place and we have the very best of people implementing it. There is no hurry to claim top six, even if we got there this season, that Tranmere game horribly exposed our lack of depth and gave an insight to the type of team we’d be fielding in the early stages of a Europa or conference league. It’s going to take time so why not enjoy the atmosphere of a bouncing SJP and let the owners do their jobs. They’ve said they want us at the very top and I fully believe they mean it. Rome was not built in a day so let’s just enjoy the next few years as the foundations are laid.

GUARDIAN – Isak hopes for a less wicked game

Newcastle fans love their centre-forwards and Alexander Isak will surely enjoy the warmest of receptions as the Sweden striker makes his home debut against Crystal Palace at St James’ Park on Saturday. After scoring a sublime goal – and having a second disallowed for a very tight offside – as Newcastle suffered a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday, the 22-year-old is anxious to experience his first win on Tyneside. “It’s never [good] to lose in the last seconds like we did at Liverpool,” said Isak as he promised Eddie Howe’s team more than goals alone. “So I start disappointed but we have to use this feeling as energy against Crystal Palace. I will try to provide a bit of everything, not only in the box but also in the buildup play. I will try to float around and use my qualities.”

Rumours inside SJP is that Ashworth and Howe couldn’t agree on incomings, we were looking at up to 5 options (won’t have bought them all), and that dropped to two in the afternoon.

It’s good They’re working together Dubai. In the past we had managers like Pardew and Bruce who wanted good old honest British grafters, and were quite against flair players. Then Carr was going out and buying these amazing flair players anyway, who would often end up on the bench behind Obertan, Williamson or Perch. Ashworth is brilliant at finding players, but Howe knows the tactics so if he says this guy won’t fit my pass n move style, then It’s good they aren’t going over his head.

Perhaps Parqueta and Pedro weren’t to Howe’s liking as he’s currently not playing a number ten. Although Parqueta can play a few positions. However I can’t see him in a battling midfield 3 nor any need for him on wings now we have Isak and ASM with Anderson pushing.

In all pleased with the window and just our general business all round. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that we didn’t bring in a Maddison level player in midfield but I’m not going to let that spoil what I believe are crucial building blocks being carefully placed which will safeguard our immediate and long term future.

Like a lot of fans I can’t get my head around Dubs being let go. They’ve made a statement that they wanted extra cover on top of Heaton, well we needed extra cover on top of Darlow and don’t understand why they haven’t been made to pay a fee. He’s obviously been promised EL games and knows that if DDG gets injured he’ll be number one at Man U. Eddie H says there’s two sides to every story and there’s obviously reasons we don’t know about that he’s been allowed to leave in the manner he has.

Yeah, the more I read about Dubs, the more I think I’ve got it right. I think Dubs feels let down by Howe and is pissed off with him. Better to let him go than have an unhappy senior squad member kicking up a stink. I still think it sucks.
