Eddie Howe has given his press conference for tomorrow’s match against Crystal Palace. The lads return home after three away matches. The looming question is the fitness of the squad’s stars Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes, and Allan Saint-Maximin.
While Callum is still out, both Guimaraes and Saint-Maximin are close to returning. This is what Howe said per the club’s Twitter account:
“Bruno and Maxi are close. They weren’t serious injuries but we’ll wait and see whether they’re available for this weekend.”
Bruno has missed the last two while Allan was out for the heartbreaking defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday. New signing Alexander Isak Came into the team to make a memorable debut with a class finish.
Howe has been very pleased with the 22-year-old, who was unveiled just one week ago. Howe has given the following update on Isak’s first week:
“The players have taken to him. He’s quite quiet and he’s going about his business in a professional way – he’s very focused.
“He’s asking questions about how we want to play and what’s required of him – he’s been excellent.
“I think that showed in his performance on Wednesday. It was one of really good tactical understanding in a very short time he delivered what we wanted him to do.
“He showed his ability and the second goal that wasn’t given especially was incredible.”
Isak was our fourth and final signing of the summer window. The four additions have already had their impact on the club. Newcastle were able to move out enough players so that nobody will be left behind unregistered.
Here is Howe’s assessment of the window:
“A very good window for us, I think. From my side, I had a clear vision of what I wanted it to be and it’s never perfect but from the board down everyone’s given their all to create the best squad possible.
“I found the window to be very difficult this year – it was very long. I’m pleased it’s shut and we can concentrate on the football. I’m very pleased with the squad that’s there.”

Comment #1Zhongguo Geordie, serious question why do you always like to take the moral high ground so much? You are part of the self righteous brothers band there are 3 of you, and Lesh is your conductor. I’ve read this blog years and the 4 of you are so opinionated and believe you can always take the moral high ground as you guys know best. Give it fookin rest man with your opinions stick to football as you are a very decent poster (when posting footbal stuff) and stop the poppy plant picking its clouding your judgement, there’s a good boy. Please note that I’m getting to old for horse shite, so just lay off your comments regarding me.

Eddie Howe on Crystal Palace:
“They’ve had a tough fixture list themselves, as we have. They’ve managed themselves well in those tough encounters. I expect St. James’ Park to be rocking again – I certainly want to see a positive reaction from my team.”

Comment #7Saw Fender at Emirates this summer. Top top talent that boy. He’ll have SJP rocking.
TDS – the offside goal. No one has explained to me which part of Isaks body was offside. And it has to be a part of his body that can score a goal. VAR still makes mistakes, especially when marginal. I’d accept it if it could be explained to me. I never just assume that officials always get decisions right. I need to see the evidence myself and their feet were in line.

Eddie Howe on Wednesday:
“I don’t have any emotion about being boo’d off. Certainly we don’t want to be clapped off by the opposition in a sympathetic sense. We’re here to compete and no part of me thinks differently. How that’s perceived by other people has no relevance to me.”

Comment #15Just so we’re clear from the start, I don’t wish to join in any of the pathetic groups and their petty battles.
It’s obvious to anyone there’s a few cliques on here by the way a large portion spend their time ganging up and harassing others.
I’m a trained sniper, usually have a spotter but don’t need one.
I’m a excellent shot but I’m even better at observation and reading people.

Comment #22If clubs in the league weren’t really willing to do business with us or making it difficult for us, then it’s even stranger that we essentially done Manure a favour with Dubravka.
I get he maybe would have disrupted the dressing room if he stayed, but surely there was a decent team in Europe somewhere outside of the league who would have been keen on loaning him?

Comment #23As a bean counter I think I have a very good grasp of how FFP works. I think the club have a little bit of wriggle room left which is a good place to be. No point doing an Everton and having to sell your best players. I think they want to see the new commercial income streams come through before spending more big lumps on transfers. I think we’ll see that next summer. Ultimately we’ll only see where we stand wrt FFP when the clubs accounts are published, but there is a 12 month lag on these and Covid losses will continue to muddy the waters until they fall outside the rolling 3 year period. I am relaxed and have complete faith in our mgt team to manage our club. Let’s be clear, our mgt team is now on a par with any other club in the PL. Professional, competent, driven, ambitious and operate with integrity and honesty. Happy days.

Comment #24onmeedsun – I’ll have to have a look to know. But normally when there’s an incorrect decision, some pundit, expert, or journalist is banging on about the wrong decision. I’ve seen none of that apart from some (obviously biased) Toon fans.
Ok, I just read that it could have been his shoulder that played him offside. That IS a part of the body that can be used to play the ball, as opposed to the arm which obviously can’t. Sounds very unlucky if that’s the case but I’m happy with the rule that if it’s offside (even by 1mm), rule the goal out. As long as that’s consistent, I’m happy.

Comment #26Mund it will be a massive lift if Bruno and St Maxi is fit for the weekend. We need a top performance to wash away the sickened at Anfield. Still cursing at that game. But once we play Palaca and smash them it will all be forgotten, we’ll until we play them next at SJP. EH and his team will be right up for that as willus the crowd. We will let them nah exactly what we think of the scouse Scum.

Comment #30In terms of Dubs and other players leaving on the cheap. Only Howe knows the real reasons but perhaps he is doing what’s right for the player. The squad will see that and respect him even more as a man. It all counts. He operates with integrity and honesty. No mind games, no bullying. Take the moral high ground. Class.

Comment #40Eddie Howe is hopeful that Newcastle United’s record signing Alexander Isak will be fit to face Crystal Palace on Saturday, despite suffering a dead leg.
Yet the striker is in line to make his St James’ Park bow against Palace, though Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin are doubtful due to their hamstring problems. Callum Wilson, meanwhile, is set to miss another game or two due to a hamstring issue, too.
Pushed as to whether Isak is available, the head coach replied, “I certainly hope so.”
Nick Pope, the goalkeeper, meanwhile, is “fine”, despite suffering dizziness at Anfield.
