Newcastle Against Crystal Palace – Team Prediction, Injuries, And Fan Optimism

Newcastle are back home today after three away fixtures. Crystal Palace come to St. James’ Park looking to play spoilers. Both clubs have started well considering they’ve had a difficult schedule to begin the new season.

The transfer window is closed and the focus shifts solely to the product on the pitch. This match is an intriguing one for Newcastle who need to pick up three points to get back into the top half of the table.

This is the team I am predicting Eddie How will name this afternoon. It has three changes from the defeat at Liverpool with Bruno Guimaraes being cleared to return to action. I suspect Howe will also go with Fabian Schar and Sven Botman at the back.

Newcastle have had a string of injuries with Jonjo Shelvey and Emil Krafth out long-term. Callum Wilson will also miss today’s affair while Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin face late fitness tests.

Crystal Palace have a handful of players out injured but they are mainly fringe members of the squad. Patrick Vieira will be able to field a very strong side today.

Newcastle Injuries

Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring), Emil Krafth (knee), Callum Wilson (hamstring), Bruno Guimaraes (hamstring – late fitness test), Allan Saint-Maximin (hamstring – late fitness test)

Crystal Palace Injuries

Nathan Ferguson (ankle), Jack Butland (hand), James McArthur (groin), James Tompkins (undisclosed), Will Hughes (knock-late fitness test)

Our poll reveals the fanbase is very optimistic the lads will come away with all three points. An overwhelming 85% are predicting a win, which is really the only result that would be celebrated.

Right, gotta get going, shower, dressed again – not as easy as you might think lol – pick my brother up and get to the cathedral.
Prediction is 3-1, so don’t back that! Isak to score a hattrick.

I understand your confusion about the Bridge pubs.

There’s The Bridge Hotel, which has for years been a brilliant pub located next to the High Level Bridge which isn’t far from the Central Station.

    https://sjf.co.uk/our-pubs/bridge-hotel/

And there’s the Bridge Tavern which is a gastro pub and situated under the Tyne Bridge

    Enjoy your visit

Need to give palace a good thumping like, we need to prove we are a better side than these bang average sides, we we can draw with city and barely get beat off Liverpool we should be smashing teams like this.

They will be petrified to come to a rocking SJP and a early goal will destroy any confidence they might have.

    HWTL 4-0 NUFC

A good team to start and bring on Maxi and Elliott later in the game ?
HWTL 3 points will do ?

Lesh; both of those boozers are a joy.
We’ve always called the Bridge Tavern the Pump House. No idea why. It also has an old sign above the door with the name Newcastle Arms.
Does anyone know why it is commonly called the Pump House?
Another favourite boozer of mine up Dean Street is the Crown Posada. Superb.

Before I go, shall we have a, guessing game?
The question is, “where will Palace park their minibus today”? 🙂 Fortunately, their loss is our gain. We’ll have sold their excess tickets, of that I have no doubt.
HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!! Let me hear that roar from America, Australia and wherever else you’re viewing from.

Teams with most draws in a season at 17 are Newcastle, Villa (twice), and Mackems
We survived the season and sadly so did villa and mackems

Feeling confident today, we’ll have that extra tenacity after feeling robbed midweek and we look incredible at home. Crowd will be fantastic as always and I fancy Isak to get his first home goal today.

Not sure if it’s too soon for ASM and Bruno but whatever team we put out in feeling confident, 2-0 with Isak and Miggy to score.

No idea why the Bridge Tavern’s called the Pump House. I remember it as the Newcastle Arms, an S&N house, a basi no frills bar.

The Crown Posada? Now there’s a bar and a half. They used to have an old wind-up gramophone on the far end of the bar. I’d heard it had closed – is that the case or was it just a temp shut down? It’d be a real loss if it’s gone.

Makes sense for Bruno and ASM to not be in the starting 11. If they are carrying knocks, no need to risk them and potentially risk them being out for even longer. We have layer superb against Liverpool without them so at home to Palace we should be able to get the win. Let them recover 100%.

Further to @34, it seems that now The Bridge Tavern was once home to a micro brewery – hence it being called The Pump House.

    There you go.
