Summer Steal Was Newcastle’s Best Player Once Again

Newcastle are six matches into the campaign and in decent shape in the league. The Magpies have suffered from numerous baffling refereeing decisions that have cost them some potentially critical points.

Newcastle are still primed for a run into the top half of the table currently positioned in 11th on 7 points. They’ve also been without some key stars over the past few hectic weeks in which the schedule was very congested.

One player has consistently risen to the occasion early in this campaign. That is goalkeeper Nick Pope. The 30-year-old was again in fine form in the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace making some crucial saves.

Pope and his stingy defense picked up the third clean sheet of the season on Saturday. For his performance, Nick has topped another poll as Newcastle’s best player as he collected 30% of the votes.

The England international could be the league’s signings of the season if he can keep up his performances. If you take into consideration that he cost just £10m, his addition has to be one of the summer’s steals.

Joelinton and Kieran Trippier round out the top three with their performances. The pair have featured heavily over the past couple of weeks. They’ll be glad the schedule returns to one match a week until the latter half of October.

    Dazzler, who is Bazza?

Is he the sandy haired ITK bloke on U tube – has his own show ?

If he is, he’s a spoofer supreme! 🙂

Munster – I did say that we weren’t seriously in for Paqueta, although I thought he’d go to Arsenal and not West Ham. And yes, I was mocked big style by certain people who drank the Paqueta kool aid.

Not worried about us not getting a lot of wins at the start of the season

To be honest but for us fluffing good chances and poor refereeing we would be top of the league

But I can see us going on a good run soon

West Ham will struggle against us as we play similar to Brighton and Moyes doesn’t know how to deal with that pressing style its just about us getting a goal or 2 before we get tired similar to the Palace game we need to blow teams away when on top

I seriously doubt that Pickford will be dislodged as England number 1 for the World Cup. He’s been excellent for England generally so I think he’d need to be on a shocking run of form and lacking confidence to be dropped. Pope, Ramsdale, and Henderson must be competing for the other 2 spots. The first two must be favourites at this point.

TDS … we will see. T-Rex in a poor team, Pope in a team with as good a defence as any this year. I think it may swing the pendulum.

A lot of criticism ref Dubs to Mancs. But £10m for Pope and £5m for Dubs. Net outlay £5m. Pretty good business. Yes! I would have like Dubs to stay.

Pug – I don’t think it matters too much what team the goalkeeper is in, especially when Pickford already has a lot of experience playing for England and in major tournaments. He’s a proven quantity so I just don’t think he’ll be dropped unless he screws up.

    Dazzler and Jail and TDS.

I dont get the “he’s too similar to x” or “they do the same job as Y”…losing Shelvey and Bruno tells you all you need to know…if Brazils midfield general (paqueta) is too similar to Bruno, how did they do so well together at Lyon and what happens when one gets injured? Answer is the other one that plays at the same very high level comes in to cover. Our cover for Bruno is Longstaff ffs!

Our first team is just behind West hams first team, but our cover for the first 11 is championship standard at best, whereas west hams back up is far better than ours.

In sumnary if all our first 11 stay fit and dont go on international duty and stay in good form all year…then we might get 8th…if not we’re top of the bottom half which is not going to help us recruit next summer.

IMO we missed a chance…we should have sold the dream to Paqueta and got him on board but now he plays for our biggest rivals for european footy…we should have bought more quality players. IMO

IMO Anderson is not the answer just yet…he’s showing great promise but what is his position?…he’s not a willock or a Bruno or a Joe, so the theory about not spending on Paqueta because Anderson is coming through is just mad…so where does he play if ASM and wilson and Isak play…he’s not suited to 433…he’s a 442 player atm so needs to do and be something different to make an impact.
