Newcastle continue to be linked with young prospects. Yesterday, it was revealed that Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon has been scouted extensively by the Magpies’ recruitment team. The 19-year-old is currently thriving on loan with Patrick Thistle.
Sport Witness has cited a report from Brazil that Newcastle have contacted Vasco da Gama over their starlet Andrey Santos. The 18-year-old has also drawn interest from Barcelona.
According to the report, Newcastle approached the Brazilian club for information on his situation. That may have alarmed the club as the young Brazilian has since penned a new five-year deal as his previous contract was due to expire next summer.
There is no indication the new contract contains a high release clause. Though Vasco likely rate the 18-year-old very highly and now hold all the cards after getting tying him down on a long-term basis.
Santos could be one to watch for in the coming years. He only turned 18 in May but has already racked up 23 first-team appearances for the Rio-based club. He is involved in the Brazil set-up having been called up for the Brazil U20s in June, though he didn’t make an appearance.

Comment #42Mitro didn’t follow Rafa’s instruction properly I think and that doesn’t bode well for your future under him. Couple that with the fact he saw Mitro as a liability, he probably didn’t think he had the time to invest in him when keeping the club up was his priority.
Toney I think has said the best thing that happened to him was getting punted from the Toon. I feel he was heading down the stupid young lad with cash in his pocket route, like daft Nile Ranger.
Always liked Mitro due to his commitment to the cause with his heart on his sleeve stuff, but was always worried when watching him in case he walks with a red card.
They both seemed to have matured significantly, but too late for what we required at the time or they were just too young and not showing some progress in maturing.
Toney’s all round game, if he keeps banging them in, should get him on the plane to Qatar.

Agree with that, say if they’d discussed 8th and we finish tenth, there’s not a cat in hell’s chance they’re replacing him.

Comment #44Also with regard to Mitro and Toney, Rafa was making decisions while under the impression money for transfers was there, he had full control of transfers, new training ground etc.
Basically what was actually not happening 🙁

Wood has taken more pelters from our fanbase in the 9 months he’s been here than have ever been levelled at Ben Arfa (another strange love in IMO), ASM or Mitro, so not sure what point you’re trying to make with this one?
Lascelles is a one I will never get on board with. He’s been a solid pro, is better than most give credit for and has led the team on the pitch admirably the entire time he’s been captain.

Comment #46I think We’ll be between 5th and 7th. Id be happy with 10th or even less as long as we play well. After many bad seasons, I’m just happy the games are enjoyable, we play nice football, and I can look forward to fun games. In the future it will all be about getting into the top four and maybe even competing for titles, but now It’s about Enjoying football.

I’d be happy with 10th/11th if it meant we got a cup final added into the mix, anything below that I think will be seen as failure (at a board level) though.
I think they might not have a strict target but they will want top 10 at a minimum I reckon.

We’ve had tough fixtures, played wirh a handicap in 4/6 games and are in a decent position. Imagine VAR could see as well as comentators?
Forest 2-0
Brighton 0-0
Man City 4-3
Wolves 1-0
Liverpool 2-1
Palace 1-0
We’d be top after a tough start. Fixtures should get easier now.
Also the momentum of being top would have fired us on as it did when we come 5th or when Leicester won.

Comment #521 win out of 6 is pathetic. I looked at our 2022 form (3rd top) and our signings since (plus Bruno, Trippier and Wilson didn’t play in all the matches after Jan) and have us top 6 at least. Then 3 of our best players get injured in AUGUST!!! What’s going on?
If we get them fit and keep them fit we are bound to win enough matches, including West Ham this weekend, to finish top 6.

Comment #53I really do hope that Bruno and St Maxi are available on Sunday from the start. They are most definitely needed. West Ham have not started great but did look decent last time out against Chelsea.
If Bruno is fit then it will he billed as Bruno v Paqueta, unfortunately for Paqueta Bruno will run circles around him as Paqueta is not up to the speed of EPL football just yet. But our 2 best players for me is Maxi and Bruno, and oh how it has showed recently. We are a different team with them in. So we need them and we will beat the hammers if they’re available and Bruno will come out on top.

Comment #56When Wilson returns to full fitness, and we are free of injuries and hopefully stay like this for a good period of time, this will be our best team, in my opinion obviously:
–?———?————————Pope——————————————
Trippier———-Schar—————–Botman———–Target—-
—————-Almiron———Bruno—————Joelinton———
Isak—?————————-Wilson?———————-St Maximum
Sometimes you will get the player’s changing (especially at the back to incorporate Burn and Lascelles who have both done great thus far tbis season. You will get Longstaff and Willock coming into MF, now and then. But seriously I like the idea of Miggy in MF hurrying, harassing, closing down, running with the ball at the opposition defence sliding balls through and tracking back so a typical box to box MF i believehe has got it in him I really do and may surprisea few if given the opportunity. I think he has strengthened uilt himself up (with extra weight lifting probably) this season and is harder in the tackle. As he was too light weight previously.
That front 3 if they stay fit will be enough for any team in the EPL with plenty of pace and skill. That team I’ve picked is a good team to get us through to January when we could pick up a Maddison and a top RW and desperate RB cover for Trippier in that window.

Comment #63On the subject of VAR – I’ve mentioned this before on here but I’ve never seen any of the pundits mention it. For an offside decision I don’t see how they can be so sure of the frame to use which represents when the ball left the players foot – for example at the weekend (I think it was the Arsenal offside) the frame they used there was 2 blurry balls one touching the foot and one a distance away from the foot – how the hell can they decide that’s the frame??
These offsides are so tight that in one frame the player will be on side and in the next offside – in my opinion they should either use 3 frames i.e. one either side and check all 3 or probably simpler just use wider lines and give the benefit to the attacking side if it is very tight!!!

I am not we’ll see Isak pushed out wide and even if we did he’d be on the left IMO with Maxi moved to the right as Isak will only offer something cutting in as he’s not a natural winger.

Comment #66Andy Carroll has been Bruced not once but twice. 2hat did he di in a previlife to have such bad luck put on him? Poor bugger deserves another bite of the cherry. On his day he was unplayable. But all the injuries have taken their toll on him. Could be a decent impact sub just like our Mighty Wood.
Still think we have better things to come from Wood, he seems the only player not to up his game under EH, Maxi was another one but of late has upped his game immensely will become a very high end quality international if he keeps going and not a one man maverick but a team player. I think Woods issues has been his huge lack of confidence that can ruin strikers more than any other player, the amount of chances he would have buried for Burnley and mised for us, it’s as if he is trying to hard. When Wilson is fit, Wood will be a decent impact sub. If not swap him with Carroll 😉

It will be interesting to see how the new semi automated offside works in the ECL this week. There’s a sensor in the ball so hopefully it’s more accurate.

Comment #72Dazzler, Isac is both footed however does prefer his right. I get what you are saying about cutting in onto his favoured foot (right), I also agree he is by no means a right winger.
However, Maxi on the other hand is strictly right footed and his game is all about cutting in onto his right from the left wing, nis game is built on that. I think Isac has a much better chance of cutting in and utilising his left peg than Maxi. If Maxi was moved to the right it would totally affect the balance and take away his game that he is really starting to get to grips of. I get and understand what you’re saying, but I just think EH would not change Maxi to the right and potentially disrupt his game he has clearly worked on with him and closely Ustinov changing him into a team player looking for the pass rather than take on the whole team single handedly, i think Maxi would hate the change in set up and get frustrated just my opinion like mate, I’m probably totally wrong.

Unless Howe plays to Wood’s strength, he will continue to struggle. Even Isak had little service to feed on, had to drop deep to get balls. Howe’s attacking movement is still a work in progress phase. I think he was working with ASM and Miggy’s parts as I see most improvement from the two this season. Probably will see more improvement coming up.

Comment #76Wood unfortunately is now the new Gayle, can’t thank him enough for his contribution to our survival but I think it will be exceptional circumstances if he starts again in the PL for us. I’ve defended the guy as much as I can, we’ve looked toothless with him leading the line.

Comment #78Tyran21 I agree with your post @74. 100% right mate.. it is why I have Almiron in my MF in my best 11 team above. A lot of people have given miggy a lot of unnecessary stick, I like you believe a lot of our attacking prowess comes from Miggy, Maxi and Bruno. Miggy in the MF with Bruno really could work as they know each others game already, they work well together. And like I mentioned Miggy has definitely bulked up more for the physical battle in the EPL. It has been so telling how we’ve struggled without Bruno and Maxi mind. We need them back ASAP. A little toothless and don’t create much without them. But every team would struggle losing their 2 best creative players, it’s just we don’t have like for like to replace (at present)….Man City and Liverpool can do this with subs.
You are also right about having to play to Woods strengths to get the best out of him, which we have not, this has clearly affected his game which in turn has affected his confidence. So as I mentioned mate, I would have Wood as that player to bring on if we are desperately chasing a goal and need one with 10mins left on the clock, bring him on play and change the game up to play to his strengths and see what comes of it. I like it when a manager changes the tactical approach and out foxes his opposite number. Wood could well be that Ace up his sleeve (maybe EH knows this hence why he kept him?) as like I said he has plenty to offer and can be lethal on his day if given the chance and play to the man’s strengths
