Newcastle continue to be linked with young prospects. Yesterday, it was revealed that Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon has been scouted extensively by the Magpies’ recruitment team. The 19-year-old is currently thriving on loan with Patrick Thistle.
Sport Witness has cited a report from Brazil that Newcastle have contacted Vasco da Gama over their starlet Andrey Santos. The 18-year-old has also drawn interest from Barcelona.
According to the report, Newcastle approached the Brazilian club for information on his situation. That may have alarmed the club as the young Brazilian has since penned a new five-year deal as his previous contract was due to expire next summer.
There is no indication the new contract contains a high release clause. Though Vasco likely rate the 18-year-old very highly and now hold all the cards after getting tying him down on a long-term basis.
Santos could be one to watch for in the coming years. He only turned 18 in May but has already racked up 23 first-team appearances for the Rio-based club. He is involved in the Brazil set-up having been called up for the Brazil U20s in June, though he didn’t make an appearance.

Comment #241What’s all this about dissing Dubs if he came back??
He’s been epic for us and played a huge part in keeping us in the Prem.
He’s decided to be a reserve in a new place, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, with a chance of replacing a keeper who hasn’t been at his best.
What’s wrong with that?
We need to be eternally grateful for what he did here, not act like ar$es if he comes back.

I think it was the sight of him sat in his Man U pyjamas on his Man U cushions sipping coca out of his Man U mug with the caption “Come on United”

It seemed a lot longer than ten minutes when we walked it.

Agree with Bills, that we shouldn’t let this confusing move shadow what has been a superb career with us where he’s helped us out no end with impressive performances. We don’t know what’s happened behind closed doors so may be a simple explanation for the move, which looks confusing on the surface.
I understand if you’re on loan, wanting to try and show the fans of the new club that you’re committed to their cause for the upcoming season. I think Dubs just done it a little bit too soon. It was the same day as his thank you message to us wasn’t it? Wouldn’t have come across so badly if he had waited a couple of days at least.
I think he still deserves our gratitude and thanks though. His move confuses me but he was a fantastic keeper for us and this move doesn’t change that.

I’m of Jewish decent and I don’t see any humour in what you say at all!
Bit like using Raj as a name whilst racisim is all over the news.
For a electrician you’re not very enlightened.

Comment #247Bill – I can respect Dubs for his performances at the Toon and at the same time dislike his departure. Preferring to be backup at Man Utd rather than us doesn’t sit so well with me, it’s not as if Man Utd are in the CL. And then, yeah, the pro Man Utd posts on the day he signed were a bit sickly for me.
Maybe he’s a Man Utd fan and this is his dream but he didn’t communicate that to the fans. I suspect it’s more than he feels let down by Howe for Pope being number 1.
So no, I wouldn’t be happy if Dubs comes back. I’d rather we move on from him while respecting his achievements for us.
