This is the team Eddie Howe has named for this afternoon’s match against Bournemouth. It has two changes from the scoreless draw against Crystal Palace last time out.

Bruno Guimaraes is fit and slots back into the starting eleven with Sean Longstaff making way. Howe has gone with Dan Burn over Sven Botman to partner Fabian Schar at the back.
Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson are not risked with the bench looking very suspect. There’s also no Elliot Anderson in the squad which is a concern. New signing Loris Karius backs up Nick Pope.
Here is who Gary O’Neil has named for the Cherries with former NUFC youth product Marcus Tavernier getting a start.

Newcastle have a great opportunity to push into the top half of the table. A win will move us just outside of a European place. Anything less will be big disappointment heading into the two-week break.

Comment #168i don’t want to hear anything negative about ASM anymore. no matter how bad he plays he’s still a threat.
without him, we are simply too easy to defend against.
Fraser is terrible.
Isak has been woeful.

Comment #175We nibbled at Diaby and Maddison and many other forwards. Not sure 63 million for Isak was the best use of the cash but always willing to be proved wrong. Am I greedy but I am expecting more for that much money?

Isak cannot do anything if they dont give him the ball or make space.
he has 2 or 3 defenders around him at all times.
it is the MF and wide players job to move them about…they arent doing it

We simply lack attacking quality and depth upfront and wide.

Comment #185We just need to move the ball a bit quicker.
For those who think Isak should be doing better…..with what? Isak has Christie booked and that could prove to be a big problem for Bournemouth in the second half.
This game would have been made for ASM but sadly…………

Comment #187For all my whinging here I think it is actually bmouth doing well rather than us doing badly.
They are closing space, not giving us a chance. Playing a flat back 10 basically.
it is working for them and making us look bad.. we need to get used to teams playing like this.
We need a bit of luck. another day Joes and Trips goals would have gone in and we would be 2-0 up.
We still havent done much.

Comment #18869% possession 6 attempts, 4 on target.
Hit the woodwork twice!
Reasonable stats, need patience.
Normally don’t have time for Merson but for once he’s hit nail on head. People regard Newcastle as a threat particularly at home and will come set up to get a nil nil or even nick 3 points. That’s how we used to play. Now we have to find ways of breaking down this mentality as we’ll come across it from all but the best 4 or 5 teams. Different world for us!!

Comment #189cleveleysbob – emphasises the reason for us needing more creative players to break down stubborn defenses like these. It’s clear as day that Almiron and Fraser are not the answer.
