Newcastle’s campaign gets back underway today with Eddie Howe’s former club coming to St. James’ Park. With the international break looming and last week’s match being postponed, this is the only match in a four week period so Newcastle must make it count.
A win could propel us into the top half of the table within striking distance of a European place. It would also be just the second league win of the campaign and a perfect way to start the break.
The Cherries will hope to get one over on their former manager. They’ve picked up a draw and a win under caretaker manager Gary O’Neil. A result will ensure they remain out of the bottom three.
This is the team I am predicting Howe will name today. It is unchanged from the scoreless draw against Crystal Palace. Though, Howe has some selection decisions to make with Bruno Guimaraes potentially available and Elliot Anderson a strong candidate for his full Premier League debut.
Newcastle have been able to navigate the previous few weeks without injured stars Guimaraes, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Callum Wilson. They may have to do that again this afternoon with Callum and Allan not expected to take part.
The injury situation is improving with the encouraging news that Jonjo Shelvey has started running. He could return early next month with a packed schedule until the World Cup break in November.
Newcastle Injuries
Karl Darlow (ankle), Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring), Bruno Guimaraes (hamstring – late fitness test), Callum Wilson (hamstring – late fitness test), Allan Saint-Maximin (hamstring – late fitness test)
Bournemouth Injuries
David Brooks (hamstring), Joseph Rothwell (thigh), Benjamin Pearson (knee), Junior Stanislas (groin – late fitness test)
The poll for this match reveals that fans are extremely positive the lads will pick up three points with 90% predicting a win. Anything less would be very disappointing with two weeks until our next match at Fulham.

With us having 70% possession and their keeper pulling off some worldies

Comment #44At a guess I’d say Bruno back and the others as subs. He’ll make a huge difference. I’d like to see Anderson given a go from KO.

Comment #47I’d settle for a 2 – 0 win today but I certainly wouldn’t say no to winning by a bigger margin.

Comment #48Munster, having a youth break through especially if local is one of the best feelings. I remember Gazza breaking through when I first got into football, and saw live the likes of Clark and Howie breaking through.

Aye, Bruno starting is ideal. I’m not sure Willock and Longstaff together is enough pal.

#45 totally agree with you, we shall hopefully get the rub of the green with the 50-50 or 60-40 decisions in our favour. However,. Them 5-7 points we’ve been cheated out of what will that be the difference of come the end of the season. Or will it be allowed to be balanced out.
But I’m in agreement they will look more favourably on us with decisions going forward. Until we play one of the slimy 6. 😉

Comment #53Aye Fenham, that team you put up would there when everyone is fit would do me just fine, plenty of pace in there with lots of attacking options moving forward.
i hope i am wrong but i doubt we will ever see that exact line up because of Wilsons injury probs, besides, i doubt he would play Wilson and Isak in the same side, unless he opts for Isak playing on the wing.
Looks damn good though.

I think Eddie will find a solution to get Isak in the same team as Wilson. Isak is more fight footed however he is actually both footed and can easily cut in from right onto his left leg and get some shots away. That front 3 would be electric with a decent MF 3. If only the squad stays fit we could see something special this season. Not forgetting January window. Madison, then we really will be cooking on gas 😉

Comment #63Just got back from a short break in Turkey. Booked a flight in a balloon which would fly over the Bosphorus, and over Galatasaray and Basitkas districts.
Unfortunately the burner in the ballon was malfunctioning so we thought that would be the end of our flight.
All of a sudden a bloke on a bike come racing onto the field and gets underneath the skirt of the balloon and blows the balloon up with his breath/wind/hot air.
We did our flight -and I’ve no idea who the boke was.

Comment #71Those Anti Monarchists on the blog have every right to be Anti Monarchist and to feel indifferent about the passing of our Queen ….. However to try and belittle the genuine deep felt grief of the majority of English folk , after the sad loss of a remarkable individual , who was very dear to most of us , is simply not right.
