VIDEO – Eddie Howe Post Match Interview – “There Was Something Missing Today”

Eddie Howe has admitted that Newcastle were not at their best today in the 1-1 home draw against his former club, Bournemouth.

We have to try to pick up wins against clubs not in the top six and especially at home, and we again failed to do so.

The Newcastle manager has admitted there was something missing today.

Our next game is at Fulham in two weeks time after the International break.

The London club have a team in form, having won 3-2 at Nottingham Forest yesterday, and they are currently in 6th place in the Premier League with 11 points.

3 points more than Newcastle.

A lot of posters making excuses.

Ultimately when Maxi is back we’ll be a better side. Until then we’ll be frustrated in attack.

Wilson gets injured and he is usually out for ages. He injures easily and recovers slowly. You get half a season out of him in a good year.
I would pick him for England and play him in easier cup games to give Kane a rest
Haaland Kane and Wilson are n that order.
Sadly Isak for all that money does not come close unless it’s an open game

    DrGloom,

When Maxi and Wilson are both hopefully back against Fulham, we shall see a much better performance and a cutting edge we lacked today.

I’d like to see (if fit enough to start) Wilson in the middle with Isak on the right and drop miggy into MF. I think the lads will be hurting from not getting the 3 points today and will come out all guns blazing against Fulham who are doing OK so far this season, but with a full strength and hopefully Maxi given the platform as the main provider (as he was) will do his psyche a world of good. However I’m hearing reports he has had a set back in his return to fitness. So not sure if he may be available next game? Time will tell…

I will put this out there – a number of fans wanted to sell ASM during the window, now we can all see his value to the team. He knuckled down during the close season, got fitter and less selfish. He will be injury-prone unfortunately, but he is a top six player when on song.
Ashworth and Co will be looking for players to ensure that Fraser, Almiron, Willock, Murphy and Longstaff are limited to sub appearances long term.
    The project continues!

What was missing today was an experienced striker to put the ball in the net.

We will have to limp on till January before we can make an upgrade to our attack.

If we could shift Wilson on in January and reinvest the 15 odd mil we could get it would be good business. He’s a talented footballer. But he’s just too injury prone. Not really offering the club much based on his absences

    Something missing?
It’s called creativity or ability. The Toon midfielders and wingers lack it.
It’s that simple but I appreciate you cannot say publicly what I can

We have Isak and Wilson? We need a right winger and either a DMG or AMF player. Not another striker IMO. I would put my mortgage on Maddison coming in January. He will light the place up. Exactly what we’re lacking mate.

    On a positive side

This time last year we’d have snapped your hand off for this.

No danger whatsoever of being relegated, probably hovering round mid table all season, dominating teams but just lacking that little bit of quality to finish them off.

It’s easy to get impatient and carried away, but that is massive progress on the last 10 years.

I don’t think it’s a lack of effort or coaching when we’re playing like we are. I just think it’s a lack of quality which will only come over time.

You can’t really compare the two with VAR.

The ones that have went in our favour have been very clearly in our favour to begin with.

Today was clearly a handball there’s no getting away with that

After the great run from Jan to May and the subsequent poor run this season after spending over 100 million, the owners will have questions.
Why does 12 million centre back keep out on costing 35? Was 63 million well invested?
The owners want continuous improvement for their money like Chelsea and City and will not hesitate to swap managers if the pace slackens.
Not getting a creative midfielder and proper winger to complummet Max are major blunders and come before a Isak type player.
He will be given January to rectify but if we are still stuck in mid table in the summer after all that money, I think they will show him the door

    Repost Little vent/rant!

Lots of my friends who support other clubs really thought that we would make Europe this season. I always said no, that won’t happen, thought that eighth would be the best we could do but would be very happy with a top-10 finish.

People who wanted to sell Saint Maximin in the summer should hang their heads in shame. You fools would have us playing with donkeys and lose our best attacking threat. We’re so poor in the attacking 3rd without him. Even if he doesn’t score or get an assist he troubles opposition players, drags them out of position and create space for others to exploit. Who cares if he doesn’t track back all the time. At least he can do things with a football certain players squad couldn’t even dream of doing. Same with those who wanted rid of Jonjo. His passing alongside Bruno’s just brings another dimension to our game.

Too many water carriers in the team e.g. Willock, Almiron, and Fraser. It’s okay when you have one or maybe two (at very most) of them on the pitch but when it goes to three or four or five with the Longstaffs, Murphys or Woods involved too; it just destroys the whole beautiful game Eddie is trying to create for us. Team is so unbalanced with too many of the dross ballers on the pitch. Almiron & Fraser should be impact subs at best (with their pace & energy) just like how Fulham used Dan James last night cos they’re just runners, nothing else. Anderson needs to start too when he’s back fit. Offers much more than the likes of Fraser.

We just lack so much creative/attacking edge. Just look at that finish from Maddison against Spurs. We need to sign him in January. And a quality winger. I’d love the Georgian guy from Napoli. Unrealistic probably but a similar mould of player would do. Just look at our attacking options and compare them to West Ham’s. West Ham have Antonio, Scamacca, Bowen, Fornals, Lanzini, Cornet, Paqueta and Benrahma as attacking options. So much depth, that we just really lack atm.

End of the day it’s a process and we won’t be anywhere near relegation but we can’t afford to drop too many points as we need to keep in touch with the top half of the table. Then hopefully with Shelvey, Wilson and ASM returning we’ll be able to up the ante a bit more and have a more balanced team before the World Cup. Then re-jig and sign two attack minded players like Maddison and a creative &/or goal scoring winger too.

Don’t despair it’s not panic stations yet, plenty games of the season left but we know there’s a lot of work to do to achieve top 10 leave alone top 8 & top 6.

    Agree totally.
But be careful as some sensitive souls on here do not like too much honesty.
They will back Miggy and Willock and Fraser and Longstaff ( not so much Murphy) to the hilt because they are triers. They never score or create naff all mind you.

We can have/play any amount of strikers but it doesn’t alter how w teams set up against us.
We have to learn to break them down, patiently not bombard them, prize them open.
    Then be accurate!

A loss against Fulham and alarm bells are ringing, they are in good form and will be looking to take 3 points to further sink us down the rabbit hole. 2 draws against poor sides at home after absolutely dominating against City and Liverpool.

1 win in 7 is not good enough, simple. it doesn’t matter how you spin it. owners have spent 200m on replacing championship standard players left by the cretinous Ashley’s greedy regime .

Still have Championship players lingering around getting game time and appearances for a club that want to be winning things.

We won’t be winning much with the likes of almiron, murphy, fraser, longstaff, gillespie, darlow, lascelles, dummet, richie, lewis and the likes still on the books, thats 11 poor championhship standard players still at our club. still taking a wage and getting game time. that in itself is extremely frustrating and worrying to me.

We lose one or two key players and we look toothless and a lower- bottom half team.

    Squad depth is absolutely abysmal,

We should of signed paqueta or Maddison instead of Isaak for 60m. the midfield is toothless, only Bruno doesn’t look out of place, sometimes big joe but he’s been anonymous for 4 games. wingers are a none existent none entity in Murphy Fraser and Almiron.

#19. Hear hear, let’s not lose that way of thinking, we must stay grounded. We will have our ups and downs, that’s football as we know it. But so many posts today have came across as so entitled and negative. You’d think we were Liverpool or City reading some of the posts today (however we are all entitled to an opinion, I get that).

We are definitely keeping ahead of the curve, we’ve had a very unfortunate and unlucky start to the season, thats for sure But luck always balances itself out over time. We are not that cursed club anymore, that changed on the 7th October 2021 when we were taken over by the best possible owners we could ever wish for, they’ve provided such stability that will start taken effect and the foundations are now built, to start building upwards. So therefore as a fan base we’re now blessed and this means we will get there in time with patience… We need patience and understanding of where we are as a club and set up right now. Many unecesssary pelters via posts were thrown about today (even towards Eddie) which I feel is unwarranted and uncalled for.

Today was by no means a disaster, disappointing agreed but not a disaster.

    Onwards and upwards

That 2 shots against the post changed the game and picture a lot. If 1 of the two had gone in, Bournemouth would be forced to open up more and might have been a different. The picture would look nicer even if there is flaws in the win.

Well, not end of the world either. Even Liverpool and Man City have drop points against bottom teams this season. Should have almost full squad back after international break. We’ll see what a front 3 of ASM,Wilson and Isak can do.
