Compatriot Has Sound Advice For Starlet Linked With Newcastle

Last week, multiple outlets reported that Newcastle were close to reaching an agreement for Central Coast Mariners starlet Garang Kuol. The reports stated Newcastle would trigger the striker’s modest buy-out clause while paying add-ons for the various stages of his development.

Updates on the move have grown scarce in the last week. Though, former Middlesbrough and Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has made some comments on Newcastle’s links to his compatriot.

The Chronicle has published the following sound advice Schwarzer had for Kuol:

“Get your head down. Don’t get sucked in by all the attention, don’t let your head get pulled up into the clouds. Wherever you go, even if it’s a big club or a small club, keep doing the basics.

“Keep doing the right things because we’ve seen it with players leaving Australia in the past and they’d thought they’d already made it when in fact they’d gotten nowhere near it and after a couple of years, they fell by the wayside.

“Just because you’re a talent at this age doesn’t mean it’ll last forever. I’m the first person to say ‘Go to Europe’ – if you’re good enough to make it in Europe, that’s where you’ll want to be. But that’s where the hard work starts – it’s hard to get there but it’s even harder staying there.”

Kuol turned 18 last week and hopefully will be sealing a move to Newcastle sometime in January. If he does sign, he’ll likely end up out on loan for the immediate future as he may not be able to gain a work permit.

Newcastle need to scour the globe for promising young talent. The club signed four youngsters over the summer though three were defenders and the other a goalkeeper. Getting some attacking prospects in the door could one of the aims for January.

For the record Nijmegen is pronounced Nyemaygen, so abbreviate that as you will, however Nij or Nym is perfectly acceptable 😀

Is the G pronounced as a hacking sound? 🙂

On the back 3 perhaps I should have been more explicit and said with 3 central defenders on the pitch.

I get what you are saying about fluidity. ‘Nowerdays one doesn’t really have to stick to the announced formation. I suppose it depends on the versatility of one’s own players as to the success of said fluidity.

    Vask,
In the south of Holland the g is called a soft g and is pronounced more like a k. In the North it is pronounced as a hard g and is pronounced more like bringing up phlegm from the back of your throat sound.

The chance of signing Paqueta is gone. My new no.10 transfer wish have 2 players because so hard to decide between Dani Olmo or Mykhaylo Mudryk. I prefer these 2 over Maddison because they are much more dynamic.

Vask…Had to dash off there…hmm…Lascelles is an interesting shout. He does seem to be more of a threat (yep…with a th and not an f) for goal scoring than our other CB’s (but haven’t checked career stats for them all). Who would you drop to accommodate him?

I’m not a scholar of tactics or formations in football so have no idea about plan a, b or c. Personally I would use plan z as nobody uses that and it would takenteams by surprise.
Also I can’t tell, or am interested in, whether man city or Liverpool have a plan b or if they just have better squads to rotate.

    Good question Ibiza

I suppose it would depend on what formation we were actually playing. But the logical choice would be 343 and therefore a central midfielder would have to be dropped. So based on the Brazilians being brazilliant it would have to be willock, bless him.

    Ibiza,

They could try Lascelles up top instead of Wood!

I like Lascelles, he’s a warrior but limited in his ability at the top level. Although I think he gets far too many pelters from our fans, he’s no where near as bad as others like to make out. Also, as Vask and yourself have covered he’s always liable to bang a goal in from set plays.

Apologies for being nosey,. Just the username I really thought you were dutch then when you mentioned Nyemaygen. I know there is a big memorial there with a rememberence book, so thought you could have Canadian connections.

Anyway you could well be a full on Geordie from Benwell or Elswick haha 😉

Vask…As a plan B-Z (tbc) i’d certainly be happy / interested to see it.

Willock does seem a natural choice. Still works hard, but doesn’t seem to have that cutting edge from when he first arrived. He’s been Howed! (only joking everyone – have a cuppa)

Dazzler…And wood as a CB? I’m convinced it could be his calling.

But then again, On the VAR debate. The Palace decision was diabolical, especially as the Palace player should have also been sent off but I don’t think the Wilson one had anything to do with VAR. Pretty sure the ref blew his whistle and the defenders and keeper stopped before Wilson put it in the net so there was nothing for var to check.
