Adam Bartlett has confirmed his promotion to replace Simon Smith as Newcastle’s new head of goalkeeping. The Shields Gazette has published the following message Bartlett relayed on LinkedIn:
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Head of Goalkeeping at Newcastle United Football Club!”
Bartlett was promoted from the U23s to the first team in March. He had been in the Newcastle coaching ranks since June of 2020. The former Hartlepool and Gateshead goalkeeper started with the Newcastle Academy as a youngster.
Adam Bartlett– two to the left of Eddie Howe
Newcastle’s previous head of goalkeeping Simon Smith left the club in July bringing to an end his second spell with the club. He was brought back to St. James’ Park by Steve McClaren in 2015 after initially leaving in 2004.
There has been no official announcement from Newcastle United on Bartlett’s promotion. The 36-year-old has been acting in the role and has now received another prominent promotion.

I get what you’re saying about Miggy and cannot fault the lad for work rate and leaving it all there on the pitch. That alone means he’ll be fondly remembered by fans because we love nothing more than a player who gives his all no matter how good/bad/indifferent he is. He reminds me of Jonas Gutierrez in that respect and I love Jonas. I wouldn’t advocate selling Miggy but strengthening the squad so he’s further down the pecking order so we can spring him from the bench like you say.

Comment #3Repost as I just expended far too much energy writing it!
It’s amazeballs that Miggy has that many touches in the opposition penalty area yet is still being more or less totally ineffective offensively!
I do feel others should be punted before Miggy though, as those games when we’re 1 up away from home and just need to see the game out, he has the work rate needed to contribute in them kind of scenarios.
When we are at full strength ie. Shelvey, Bruno, Big Joe, Maxi, Wilson and Isak I think Miggy is ideal for tightening up and replacing Maxi or Isak to finish close winning games in a 4-5-1 maybe.
Also in open games where he has plenty space in front of him he can be useful offensively. He was a great outlet for Rafa up top with Perez and Rondon, however we’ll probably never play that way under wor Eddie.
I’m a bit torn on the lad to be honest, but I keep leaning towards that work rate of his that we’ll need in certain games as to why I’d keep him for a while yet. Probably get our money back on him or near to it when they sell him down the line.

Comment #4Isak didn’t get any service but he didn’t make any good runs or cause any confusion in Bournemouths defence either…he probably hasn’t played against a 10 man defence before, so he needs time to learn about the Prem, and Eddie needs to tell him what he wants him to do as apposed to letting Isak do what he is used to doing…because that won’t work over here.
We won’t see the best of Isak until the new year…he hasn’t played with all the key personnel on the pitch yet…Bruno wasn’t the Bruno we all know at the weekend so several partnerships to be developed before the WC break before we see what we’ve paid for.
We’ve seen glimpses…but this lad has a lot more to come yet

Agree fully on Isak.
Twas evident for the majority of that Bournemouth game they just weren’t getting it to Isak properly. It was an annoying watch to be honest. No doubt they’ll have had a post mortem on it discussing how that didn’t occur. He got in good positions, but the creativity from anywhere to generate at least a half chance for him just never came. It’s possible Bournemouth did a better job on us than given credit for maybe. I was expecting them to tire and we’d prevail. Disappointing watch in the end for me.

And it was also in response to Fenham owning a fish and chip shop at one time.

Given that half (or more) of the squad need replacing over the next two seasons I think Miggy will be one of the last of those to be replaced, he will never play in the champions league though unfortunately.

We are largely on the same page in relation to Miggy mate, and a great comparison to the similarties between Miggy and Jonas Gutierrez another fantastic professional, who was treated in a quite a disgusting manner by the unmentionable one.

In retrospect maybe starting Wood with Isak deeper would have been the correct play. They might have been more inclined to get it into Wood for his hold up play, less complicated and something could have developed possibly.
Anyway, it’s gone now. On to Fulham and players back from injury hopefully.
We didn’t get beat by Bournemouth which is the main thing, point better than nowt and all that.

I can imagine winning 1-0 against the top 4 with 10mins to go, sub Miggy for ASM to give them something to worry about. ASM 100% is running empty at that moment.

Aye, same here. I think Miggy will be around for a couple of years yet unless a decent offer from abroad comes in. Reckon he would do pretty well in Italy or Spain. Were Athletico Madrid not sniffing round him a while ago? He’d be really suited to their style of play probably.
It does worry me when it’s going shit during a game and Miggy is still smiling mind, not sure WTF that’s all about 😆

Comment #17I think we all now know how thorough Howe is, he’ll have been through every aspect of to get past that low block that teams are going to employ against us at home. What is completely out of his hands though when those players cross that line is the quality of their delivery and decision making on the day. You can work on crosses all week long, if the player, and in Saturdays case, all three of those tasked with crossing the ball, have an off day then there’s not much the manager can do about it.

Hi mate,
Re #9
It was a wet fish shop,. Only fish produce was sold . We later sold all types of food; sandwiches, home cooking food. Was a little earner at the time, especially when we started doing home cooking like mince and dumplings etc. Pie, mash, gravy and mushy peas. All that;nice stuff… I then sold up and went into HSE (Health & Safety) traveling the world in the Oil & Gas industry. Huge change but I needed a new challenge and glad I did it 🙂

Comment #24Euro 2028 possible stadium list
Think only 5 get picked plus 2 in Ireland
The full rumoured shortlist of 10 eligible grounds is as follows: Wembley, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the London Stadium, Villa Park, Stadium MK, Old Trafford, the Etihad, Bramley-Moore Dock, Sunderland’s Stadium of Light and Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.
Villa Park – grotty but ticks a box for the beloved Midlands.
Plus you need infrastructure and quality hotels and facilities do probably rules the Mackems out.

Aye, Eddie pretty much said it just didn’t happen after the match. Like they’ve been working all week preparing to breakthrough a low block and for whatever reason it just didn’t come off. Another day we find a chink in the Bournemouth armour, exploit it and go 1 up. They then have to come on to us to get something out the game and we end up tearing them a new one.
Fine margins pal.

Comment #28I love the way Graeme Jones has just melted seamlessly in to the background after Howe arrived. I wonder who gave him permission to just show up and from day one, stand in the technical area and just blatantly talk over Bruce and bark orders. I doubt he’s the type of bloke to do that, i think he loves the club and I bet it was Charnley putting his pet in its place that allowed it to happen. It didn’t go unnoticed.

I hear that Wilson will be fit enough, however Maxi had wee bit of a set back and is struggling to make it by all accounts.
Just hope Bruno comes back from international duty unscathed.
Fingers crossed we see Wilson start, or at least come off the bench. Same goes for Maxi. Personally and obviously only my opinion. I think Wilson will start and Maxi starts in the bench. It will give Isak that support he needs. It will be a knock on effect and the Bournemouth game will hopefully all be forgotten. So much negativity after that game. Was a little uneasy to read. But I guess everyone deals differently, and have their own opinions albeit way over the top and times.

The Saudi Arabian government has said Russia has released 10 prisoners of war following mediation by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The group is said to include American, British, Swedish, Croatian and Moroccan nationals, released as part of an exchange of POWs between Russia and Ukraine.

The Steve trio, dodgy geezers stealing a living.
Graeme Jones certainly seemed to have licence to more or less take charge tactically during a game. Wonder what his thoughts were when he witnessed a Brucey training session for the first time!
Eddie must rate him pretty highly to still be around now. He seems very professional. He might have to go to the WC coz I think Southgate will bollox it up again.

Basically saying we’re heading in the right direction and that the ones disappointed are the ones that set themselves unrealistic expectations this season. 2 minutes 20 and well worth a watch.
