NUFC Striker Misses International Team Training With Knock

Alexander Isak has picked up a knock with the Sweden squad ahead of Nations League matches against Serbia and Slovenia. The Athletic is reporting Isak did not take part in training today, though he was able to do some work alone.

Isak has not been ruled out of the match against Serbia on Saturday. While this is concerning considering Newcastle’s struggle with injuries, it doesn’t appear to be a serious issue at the moment.

The striker, who turns 23 today, has started every match he’s been eligible for since his arrival from Real Sociedad late last month. Isak has scored twice in his three starts, all of which have been without star duo Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson.

Saint-Maximin suffered a setback after getting close to a return a few weeks ago. He’s been out since injuring his hamstring at Wolves, a match that showcased his Goal of the Month for August.

The news on Wilson is more encouraging. Eddie Howe recently stated he expects the 30-year-old to be back for the trip to Craven Cottage after the break. Howe also stated he wants to find ways to get both Wilson and Isak in the starting eleven.

We’ll see how Isak progresses this week. Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious. Though Wilson’s injury, which occurred in the dramatic Man City draw, was initially just a tight hamstring. If he returns for Fulham, it will be over five weeks between starts.

    Munster Mag,
Have you seen Bournemouth’s results since sacking Parker, they’ve tightened right up in defence. Yes we should be beating them but it’s certainly too early to be criticising the team. We all know that over half the squad need replacing asap, we just have to let the owners get on with it. One win in seven doesn’t sound great, one defeat in seven to the PL runners up sounds a whole lot better.

The disappointment from certain fansto the start of this season, in my opinion, stems from the simplistic reasoning that we finished in top four form last season and therefore should have automatically replicated it. Football is not simple equation.
For the record we are are five points from the top four and three from the top six.

As for Isak needing to do more, I think that line of thinking is coming looking at his stats rather than what actually happened. How many times was he gesturing for the ball to be played in to his feet compared with how many times a Fraser, Trippier, Almiron cross went straight to the first man or their keeper effortlessly caught it. Come on, he had an absolute dream debut and is a young lad in a new league. He should be getting our full support not being told he needs to do more

    Nijmen,
I said at start of seaon I guess We’ll be 7th maybe 6th, but I’ll accept 10-12th if we play good. So high expectations aren’t necessarily bad. I still think We’ll be 7th

He looks good Clint, but it has to be said He’s a risk at 65m. But even at worst He’s probably worth 30-40 and if he fails we can recoup quite a bit, so not like another striker we bought for 27m

Clint/Nij, I like Isak too. I just thought he needed to adapt on the day. He didn’t come short enough times for me and didn’t try to get across his man on crosses. Small criticisms though, love watching him. He’ll keep plenty of high line defences honest too, and a fine game v Liverpool for sure.

Out of interest, a friend of mine and his son want to go over for the Chelsea game. He can use my membership (and my son’s) to try to get tickets. He was asking me what his chances are. Any thoughts, as its a big game?

On the subject of Isak, this young man is going to be a superstar and it will be with us in my humble opinion… He has great a great technique and is naturally both footed (slightly stronger with his right). But what a calm finisher for such a young man (proven on his debut)…

Isak has a great burst of speed that would out sprint even your Kyle Walker’s tyoe defender’s et al in the EPL. He is great in the air which is always a huge plus.

One thing of note, he is not a Target man type player (just yet), he can play right across the front 3 which with our injury woes is vitally important. However, his best place is playing just off the shoulder of a player such as Wilson. I’d say when Wilson is fit, play Isak on the right of the front 3. Hopefully, Wilson can stay fit long enough to get a system going. I don’t think Eddie bought Isak to rotate with Wilson, I think he bought him to complement each other in the same team together.

Finally Isak’s attitude and professionalism is top drawer for such a young man. That is a huge tick in the box for Eddie. Keeps that well known dressing room united harmony intact.

I really do think we’ve signed a real quality gem that will only get better and better in time under Eddie’s coaching and man management. In fact it’s scary how good he will get when better players that would play more to his strengths are around him in time. The front 3 of ASM / Wilson / Isak has the potential to be explosive. Drop miggy into MF where he could be much more effective.

    Munster Mag,

Re the calling me silly when I mentioned you and Nottingham Forest in the same breath IMO is not a silly comment. To be fair, you really do talk up Forest so much onna daily basis. Why didn’t you talk about them (Forest) when they were in the championship if you had such a passion for them…I recall you only mentioning them since they came into the EPL?

What I posted late on last night was a response to you, where you clearly thought that you felt NUFC VAR decisions didn’t go against us and were mainly balanced and fair. I 100% totally and utterly disagree with what you said. I think the vast majority of proper NUFC fans will have my back here, we’ve been screwed over this season without a doubt…

As you know Forest oh so we’ll and talk/big them up on a daily basis, all I asked you was how do you feel Forests VAR decisions have gone this season? How is that a silly comment? Please advise…

Back in the day I used to part run/own a wet fish shop on Elswick Rd, Benwell. We nearly went out of business but this really nice gentleman I think he was called Bill who was from Essex used to buy loads of wet kippers. No idea what he did with them all 😆
