There is news emerging from the Brazil camp that Bruno Guimaraes has picked up a thigh injury. Sport Witness has cited a report from Globo Esporte that Guimaraes is set to miss tomorrow’s friendly against Ghana with the injury.
Bruno trained normally on Monday and Tuesday but felt something yesterday. A subsequent scan picked up the injury. Though it does appear to have been caught early as Craig Hope is reporting the injury is minor and he may yet play for Brazil.
I’m told Bruno’s thigh problem is only “small” and is not serious. Not yet ruled out of both Brazil fixtures #nufc https://t.co/6o2nLryYZ0

This is the second injury a Magpie has picked up on international duty. Earlier today, Alexander Isak withdrew from the Sweden squad with an unspecified injury. He was able to train by himself yesterday. However, the results of an evaluation by Sweden’s medical staff have ended his international break early.
Newcastle have already suffered a rash of injuries this season. Guimaraes just returned from a hamstring injury last weekend while Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson have yet to return from their hamstring problems.
The news on Wilson is encouraging as all signs indicate he’ll be available to play at Fulham after the break. Saint-Maximin has still not been cleared to return to training after suffering a setback recently.

Bills, from previous post…
#41 I felt that pain, it was absolutely sickening. I’ve absolutely despised Manure ever since.
When you look back over the past 20 years we’ve thrown away so many chances to win something. NUFC need to get that winning mentality instilled in the player’s. We need them to believe and to become winners very soon so we can finally celebrate and forget about all the so close yet so fars over the years.
Eddie hasn’t really won anything of note say like a Mourinho. However, I believe he will win us a trophy in the next 3 years and do away with them shackles and hoodoos that’s held us back.
In Eddie we trust, look to the future and forger the past. As the future is bright 😎

Thanks for your response reaffirming what I thought of them posts about Ekitike’s attitude.
Like your thoughts on football matters as they’re very balanced.
I think we definitely dodged a bullet but it does beg the question why in the hell did we chase this guy so much in that case? Hmm strange one

Comment #10Woh woh woh,. Just read the article properly there what is going on with these injuries, Isak now Bruno.
I said yesterday I was fearful of Bruno injuring himself on international duty. I’m hoping Bruno and Isak have said howay lads fake injury we pay your wages and tear are just friendlies. But both Isak and Bruno strike me as the type of player’s who really want to represent their respective countries and make the WC (especially Bruno as he is relatively new to that Brazil Sqaud) – Not good if they both are not fit enough for Fulham.
Hopefully they’re just keeping their powder dry so smash Fulham? Time will tell, but seriously something needs done with all these injuries and shows why we need more personnel brought into the sqaud for better quality of depth. But will take 2 maybe even 3 windows.

Comment #11Bills – one of the worst moments in Toon history as our 12 point lead became a 1 point lead – Schmeichel had the game of his life — I feel gutted just writing this reply. Hopefully Fenham is right and EH will lead us to some glory – the mood in Newcastle is full of hope ( albeit not always reflected on this blog 😀 ).

Comment #12In that Man Utd game, we didn’t stutter we absolutely battered them and they hit us with a sucker punch because we couldn’t put the ball away.
That game was exactly why I think Schmeichel is the greatest keeper to ever pull on a pair of gloves. It was sickening to lose it, but he put in one of the best goalkeeping performances I’ve ever witnessed.
On another note, what is happening to our players? We seem to be going back to the pre-Rafa days when every player seems to pick up consistent niggling injuries.

I don’t think we’re particularly high and especially if you take ASM and Wilson out of the equation who are notorious.

Someone said it earlier, but Isak has likely withdrawn because the games aren’t important with Sweden not qualifying, but Bruno is likely to put himself in harms way if it affects his chances of going to the WC so it’s a worry that he hasn’t withdrawn from selection. A small injury can easily become big if he isn’t careful.

It’s the importance of the players on our list that worries me. If you add Isak to that list then we are even more troubled unless Wilson is definitely back for Fulham.

#14 that’s exactly what i was thinking mate. I hope he (Bruno) is fit enough for Fulham. We will most definitely need him. We are desperate for a good performance and not having Bruno or potentially ASM is a huge concern. That will be no creativity in the team?
Never a dull day as an NUFC fan is it.

Comment #24dazzler:
I haven’t ever been able to bring myself to look back on any highlights / clips of that 0-1 Man U game. I travelled 300 miles to get to the match. Schmeichel played an absolute blinder. IIRC also set up their goal. Quick long throw to Cole, on to Cantona and into the net a matter of seconds after yet another attack had broken down. We threw everything including the kitchen sink at them that night. Lesser teams with lesser goalies had buckled under that sort of onslaught all season.

Comment #26I’m struggling to find a direct correlation to our injury record under Howe and just bad luck. It has to be bad luck that it also seems to be our most important players. Ashworth said in his interview that it was his job to bring all the different departments together so nothing escaped each other, if Howe’s method’s are causing muscle injuries it will be addressed.

Comment #30Afternoon all, I trust we are all well (as can be expected)?
I’ve been dipping in and out of the blog these past few days. Can I just say the new found respectful tone generally being displayed is a joy to read. Fully appreciated by me, long may it last.
On Ekitike I think we have a classic example of a young man who is a better player in his head than he actually is. A young man who got his chance early, showed great potential and was courted assiduously by Newcastle. Then came PSG who to be fair had a far greater attraction for the young Frenchman. That turned his head. From an aspiring talent he’s now thinking “well if PSG want me then I must be the best in the world!” Not waltzing into a starting position has made his ego implode. Hence toys out of the pram and a burgeoning bad reputation. Would it have happened at Newcastle? Perhaps. Bullet dodged? Definite maybe.
On injuries while on International duty the teams have a duty of care to both the player and their home club. Isak, minor injury (we hope) Sweden release him from their friendlies. Good and sensible. Brazil on the other hand (with a huge cache of potential replacements) take Bruno who has just recovered from an injury and is arguably not fully match fit. They then say well new injury will keep him out on Friday but we may take a chance on him for the second game. Why take the chance of turning a minor injury into something potentially more serious? For a friendly!

Comment #33sad to keep hearing more injury news but at least it looks like we made a good call on Dubs….once injuries start to pick up with age it is hard to stop the ball rolling….Wilson and Shelvy are in that spot too but hopefully we can use them more sparingly as time goes by.

Comment #34International football is a double edged sword for some fans. Of course you want our players to get called up because that generally means you have the best of that nation, the more higher ranked nations players you have the better your team, that goes without saying, on the flip side you have injuries, but you are just as, or even more likely to get injured at Tranmere. Injuries are part and parcel of the game and we should embrace our players being called up not see it as a hindrance.

Comment #35***Breaking news***” it has been reported that a 6ft 7″ guy from the south of England was spotted in a resort in Turkey playing tennis whilst wearing a T shirt which was reminicinct of “I heart NY” But instead said “I heart Mike Ashley” all in red and blue like sports direct.
The reports later said the tennis playing agitator was immediately arrested as floods of angry reports flooded into the local police station from disturbed British holiday makers. This unknown man was apprehended on the grounds for wearing an obscene print on clothing. Which carries a sentence of being presented with a Sports direct super mug, and a huge picture of Mike Ashley which must be hung above the fire place for a minimum of 10 years…Oh and a £50 gift voucher to spend in sports direct.
Heinous crime. The shame 😆

No problem at all. Love that quote in your post from Churchill by the way and very very Apt…
I’m sure all the lads will get along fine, we really should be as one on this blog and need to be more UNITED as a blog and everyone/posters meeting at the Dog & Parrot who’d normally row with another poster who may be in attendance could quite possibly realise that he is an OK guy away from the faceless avatars and petty arguments. We all.share a common interest and that is our beloved NUFC, (well maybe the odd WUM are not that seemed to have kindly disappeared from here thank god)
Hope you all have a great day and we smash Brentford. Personally I won’t be able to make it as I have work commitments.

Comment #38We’re going to get injuries, just have to accept that really. My prediction of our league finish this season assumes that we’d get our fair share of injuries and most teams with have a key player or two out for a fair length of time every season. The challenge for us is the backups because we’ve strengthened the starting 11 but the backups are still poor. It was the right way to do things but I’d say injuries will hurt us more than any other squad. There’s probably the biggest differential between our best players (e.g. Botman, Bruno, Trips, ASM, Isak) and our replacements (e.g. Lascelles, Longstaff, Manq, Fraser, and Wood) than for any other team in the league.
