Allan Saint-Maximin remains a doubt for the trip to Craven Cottage next weekend. However, The Shields Gazette noted the winger has posted a video of himself in light training hinting that he could be back soon.
Saint-Maximin posted the video on his Instagram account which shows him doing some drills wearing Newcastle’s third kit; the one he donned at Wolves when he scored August’s Goal of the Month. It was also the last match he participated in.
Allan is in Monaco working with physiotherapist Alexandre Baccili. The target date for his return appears to be when Newcastle invite Brentford to St. James’ Park in the second week of October.
In addition to Saint-Maximin, Eddie Howe is sweating recent injuries to both Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak. Bruno picked up a thigh injury with Brazil but he may able to play in their friendly against Tunisia on Tuesday.
Isak, on the other hand, has returned to Newcastle after withdrawing from the Sweden squad. He has an undisclosed injury and his status for Fulham remains unclear. Thankfully, Callum Wilson appears to be back in training and is expected to play a part at Craven Cottage.

Comment #3I wonder why some people are on the blog. They don’t offer anything positive and seem just to be argumentative. Then they take up a lot of space and it’s wearisome ploughing through and skipping their posts. Strange sort.

Comment #14Shelvey is better than most of our fringe players but I am not sure that missing him when injured and wondering if we would have done better with him in the team recently proves anything much. Let’s see how we do when he is back.
Personally I am not a huge fan of Shelvey but I will admit he improved in terms of effort under Howe so I am willing to give him another chance. I don’t think he is part of the long term solution though, a squad player in 12 months time at best, warming the bench with Almiron.
In other news I just heard on TalkSport that Pedro has signed a new contract with Watford.

For me I think it is quite telling on the overall quality of the squad when we are worried about missing Shelvey. There is not one of those top six clubs he’d get in to and I think there are very few other PL teams he would either.

Comment #17I wonder if Ritchie will leave on January to a promotion chasing club, surely better for him to do that than sit on the bench here.

Oh I must have missed them plans silly me..”
It’s not them – you should use those.
1) Usage of ‘them’: it’s the accusative form of ‘they’ (3rd person plural) so use it in sentences where a 3rd party (someone/some people separate to ‘they’) is doing an action to ‘they’.
Usage of ‘these’/’those’: they are demonstrative pronouns – the plurals of ‘this’ and ‘that’ – so use them to demonstrate something. ‘These’ is used for items that are in some way closer, more related, or in another way are the more important items of a sentence.
2) Examples of ‘them’: “John was asked what he thought of them.”; “After I gave them a detention, I told them that they weren’t making enough effort.”
Examples of ‘these’/’those’: “Why are you trying those shoes on? These ones are much cheaper.”; “Those people are silly, these are clever.”
Hope this is clear enough and helps! If it does, an upvote and/or accept wouldn’t go amiss!

Comment #20Very true Nijmegen, basically we have a core of key players Pope, Trips, Bruno, Joelinton, Maxi and Wilson and the new lads Isak and Botman. Then we have a young hopeful in Anderson.
Beyond that we have some good squad players and some deadwood, individuals will disagree as to who falls into which bucket, but the key point is that we are still far enough away from a squad deep in real quality that Shelvey being out is noticed.

He does, at one stage against Bournemouth we had three at the back, Targett, Schar and Burn, I think his systems are very fluid.

Isak was push to the left though. He could have push Targett higher, sub Almiron or Willock for Botman. This way Isak can have freedom to roam.

I’d include, Schar and Targett in that for now, so that’s nearly a quality first eleven and by the end of the season we will actually have a full quality first eleven, now in two seasons time not all of those will be starting so then you start to have both a quality first and second eleven. That’s when you can really start having both a succeful European and PL campaign.

Comment #32Apparently Toney is nowhere near starting for England, makes me think we are going to be looking at a very familiar line up. There is no way Macguire should be starting but I suspect he will.
Hopefully Pope gets the nod, he has earned it.
