Newcastle Contemplating Move For In-Demand Star This January

Mykhaylo Mudryk’s meteoric rise over the past year has planted him high on many clubs’ wishlists. Mark Douglas, in his latest for i, is hearing from sources that Newcastle are definitely one of those clubs.

The 21-year-old is expected to be in high demand when the winter window opens. The Premier League is most likely where he’ll land, if not in January then almost certainly next summer.

In addition to the Magpies; Arsenal, Brentford, Everton, and Liverpool are all contemplating moves for the Ukrainian. Brentford had a bid knocked back in August with Shakhtar wanting close to £50m for their budding superstar.

That is a significant price tag for a player who was relatively unknown this time last year. However, his qualities are made for the English game. He won’t turn 22 until January so his ceiling is very high.

Newcastle are in the market for a winger to match the game-changing ability of Allan Saint-Maximin. Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby is also a potential target and would be an equally stunning addition.

In addition to a winger, Newcastle want someone to unlock defenses as well as a defensive midfielder. These priorities won’t all be addressed in January. Splashing out £50m on one target could hinder other arrivals.

However, a player like Mudryk could make an instant impact similar to what Bruno Guimaraes did last January. Newcastle could also look at bargain deals to offset Mudryk’s outlay such as Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

A deep-lying midfielder may be able to wait until next season with Jonjo Shelvey primed for his return. Aouar’s creative ability is more pressing as is another attacking threat to combine with or cover for Allan Saint-Maximin.

Aouar will have just six months left on his contract in January. Lyon will not be able to haggle too much on a fee as he’ll be off for nothing in the summer. A combination of Mudryk and Aouar would be an accomplished window that addresses pressing needs.

If I say that Sterling is playing poorly, hopefully he will score.

I had the best crispy duck last night. Put a bit of crispy Chilli beef into it. I had never thought of that. Jessica Rare-bit suggested it.

He is definitely attracting a lot of teams so would be a tough battle for his signature. Like you say tho, who knows…? As we’ve attracted some superstars already and as they say you’ve got to be in it to win it!

Not convinced on Diaz and it would be a gamble spending that much on him and him being a flop. I’ll leave that to the scouting team and Howe to decide on that. Whatever they do I’ll back all the way.

Agree Mund who we sign aint our decision, I would go after Chiesa as number one target if it was me (assuming that when he comes back into the Juve side he stays fit). Several mates told me he is unrealistic but I think he is as realistic as Diaby who they all think should be number 1 target!

Better to trust Eddie and co really, they know what they need and want and I have yet to see a clear mistake in their recruitment.

Goal it was the signing of Micky Quinn that started my love affair with the Toon. 4 goal debut against Leeds and a hattrick in a classic against Leicester.

Mund had a clip round the ear off me mam for trying to steal her limelight.

Agree mate Chiesa would be same level of unrealism as Diaby would be and I’d love either one. If I could choose I’d probably pick Chiesa as he is a serious talent but so is Diaby…. Ahhh this upper end of the scale in terms of were we are shopping is delightful is not 😎

If he starts Maguire after a couple of Europa League games between now and Qatar then Southgate only has himself to blame if it goes t!ts up.

He should have been sacked after the Euro’s.

We lost the final because of him but the general consensus, that is rammed down our throats,is that he got us there..

    He should resign immediately.

Don’t care what Southgate thinks there is no way in hell Trippier has all these wayward or lose passes that James has had.

All these wasted passes in the final 3rd, cabt help but feel wouldn’t happen with Trippier.

I just had a random FFP related thought….

As people who understand FFP know transfer/wages of a signing are written down of the duration of a contract (so if you sign someone for £50 transfer fee on a 5 year contract that is £10M per year + whatever the wages are written down over the length of the contract)

One thing Ashley usually did was to pay the full transfer fee upfront which I am not sure the current owners do. I dont know this to be true, I just here “structured deal” which I know could just be bonuses etc but could also mean they prefer to pay in installments.

Given the pound is in freefall, it may be advantageous to pay 100% upfront for the foreseeable (assuming we don’t already)

From the selling clubs point of view it is better for them and makes no difference to our owners other than transferring a huge chunk of change to NUFCs account tomorrow in preparation for January. It won’t make a difference to FFP as such but may give us a negotiating advantage of some sort.

I am no expert but I expect PIF are smart enough to analyse such things.

Yeah Mund, it is wonderful to put Chiesa and NUFC in the same sentence and know it is not impossible. A mere 12 months ago you get locked up in a padded cell for mentioning that out loud.

I think he would be a perfect fit for NUFC in terms of attributes, where he can play and work ethic.

But what do I know? I said England would lose 2-0 tonight
