Newcastle Join Chase For Ligue 1 Star On Expiring Contract

Newcastle have reportedly entered the race for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar according to CalcioMercatoWeb. It’s not the first time the Frenchman has hit the radar. He was initially linked in May of 2020.

At the time, his price tag was over £40m but it has been sliced in half as he is in the final year of his contract. The latest report is that Lyon will listen to offers approaching £20m in January.

Aouar has some high-profile suitors with Juventus and Arsenal also keeping tabs on his situation. The 24-year-old could be a savvy acquisition this winter with his creative ability in the final third.

His versatility is also a strength as he can play deeper in the midfield, as a number 8, a number 10, or on the left. He has also taken the captain’s armband on a number of occasions for his hometown club.

Aouar rose through the Lyon Academy becoming one of the more recognizable faces over the past five years. He’s made 216 appearances with 40 goals and 35 assists but he appears keen to test himself elsewhere.

Newcastle, of course, brought in Bruno Guimaraes last January from Lyon. The fact Aouar is on the radar a year later is not surprising. He fits the profile and his fee would be a bargain for a player of his quality.

From previous about Schar up front made me laugh haha

I was thinking Willock but now definitely want to see Schar there and playing some of those through balls for willock just to prove a point

    Goal Linton,
OK, so that’s four of twenty clubs and Shaw isn’t first choice anymore under Ten Haag.

There’s Luke Thomas at Leicester who only plays when they get bad injuries.

Rom I would say more a traditional 9.

Goal I would laugh my tits off if Eddie started Schar upfront on Saturday.

    @Ng

one of the best performing left backs Rico Henry should get a look in but no chance under Southgate

Seems you either have to be a favourite or move to a top 6 team

Been an England problem for years I bet if they were to go by performance metrics only England would be a totally different team

    Pope
    Stones
    Dier
    Maguire
    James
    Rice
    Bellingham
    Shaw
    Foden
    Sterling
    Kane

This is my point for earlier, how can Shaw and Macguire get into the team? Why play Kane everyone already knows what he can do?

Nothing has been learned from recent outings so expect that unless there are injuries the above team will mostly start in Qutar, not Pope though cos Pickford will go straight back in as No1 irrespective of form.

Svalbard, Troll, New Caledonia, Papeete, La Reunion, Jan Mayen Island. How did I not realise the Earth is flat? We spent all that money on global satellites and only needed one.

The man is hard working, humble, has achieved as much if not more than others.

We always think we have a golden generation and we always almost make it. We first don’t believe we can do it, then we start thinking well maybe this time we will, then we lose. That’s how it goes. Nice predictable ride.

Kane goes to back post. Cut that out and end of. That is why we are not scoring international goals. Who else in that team scores?

    Please no more draws!

Not a healthy habit. Makes you feel you’re doing alright while you keep falling behind.

Two defeats and a win is the same as three draws, though the former makes you feel bad and the latter makes you think hey we ain’t losing we’re doing alright!

What most people do not realise is that the solar system and the stars are painetd in luminous paint on a huge conical surface thay overlays our flat earth.

The sattelites go into a portal at one end and pop out in another to give an illusion of circling the Earth.

Of course no one in power tells us that!

Hadn’t realised the fruit loops at Watford were on the go again
Who next after Bilic? Probably Bruce

Championship club Watford have named Slaven Bilic as their new boss on an 18-month deal after sacking Rob Edwards just 11 games into his tenure.
