The season gets back underway on Saturday at Craven Cottage after a taxing international break. Three Magpies suffered injuries with their national squads with Alexander Isak and Chris Wood likely unavailable this weekend.
Isak returned to Newcastle last week with a lower leg injury. He is expected to miss the next few weeks. Wood suffered a rib injury leading to his first-half substitution in New Zealand’s defeat against Australia on Saturday.
Bruno Guimaraes also returned early with a minor thigh injury though he is not expected to miss this weekend’s clash. His availability along with the return of Callum Wilson could be key to Newcastle’s chances.
Fulham have been nothing short of sensational in their return to the Premier League. They sit in 6th place on 11 points. Former Magpie Aleksandar Mitrovic’s six goals trails only Erling Haaland’s 11 as the league’s best.
Mitrovic is also fresh off a hat-trick against Sweden for Serbia. They face Norway in the Nations League this evening. He does have a slight knock which may keep him out of tonight’s match.
Goals have been in short supply for the Toon, who have not scored from open play in our last two fixtures, both disappointing home draws. The loss of Isak as well as the continuing absence of Allan Saint-Maximin will not help matters.
Wilson’s expected return may cancel out Isak’s exclusion. The 30-year-old has been out of action with a hamstring injury since the Manchester City draw. He’s scored two superb goals in his three starts.
This will be a difficult match for Newcastle to get something from. Fulham look primed for Premier League survival and have made some savvy additions this summer. However, midfielder Joao Palhinha will miss out with five yellow cards.

Comment #5It’s so hard to predict our results at the moment based simply on the fact we don’t know who is going to be available.
If Maxi, Bruno and Wilson are all fit to play, I see us beating them with ease. If not… it might be a difficult fixture.

Comment #10Forgot about Viduka playing for us for a bit. So thereās Moore and Viduka who definitely started games for us. Did Good and Inman both actually play for us? Iām pretty sure the former played in a cup game or two but canāt remember in the PL. Did Inman play for us though? Maybe as sub?
Any advances on these 4 Aussies?

Comment #112-1 win for us on Saturday.
Mitro will score against us with Willock scoring for us and Wilson coming off the bench to notch the winner.

Comment #12How long do we give Howe to win a match before he has to go?
We can’t score from open play and look no better than last season despite Ā£200 million spend.

Comment #15If Wilson is fit but Isak & Wood are injured, surely he has to start. Beyond them, who can play striker? ASM has done it but probably wonāt be fit so who next in that role? Play Willock or Anderson as a false 10? Put BDB up there to hold the ball up or knock it on? š

Comment #19Regarding Maguire, for me itās simple. If he can regain his place at Man Utd and also his best form then heās got to go to the World Cup and will be a fantastic asset for England. If heās still on the bench for Man Utd, then it would be foolish to take him. Would be quite a shock usually for a player as prominent as him to get dropped for a tournament but heās not good enough to go as it stands. I really hope he picks up his form as weāre not exactly blessed in that position.

Comment #20Good comeback for England last night and a pity for Pope’s blunder but that dosen’t suddenly make him a bad GK.
The team had plenty of chances without that one mistake so he shouldn’t be taking the blame for not get getting a win.

Comment #21EGB – I think that too. Pickford hasnāt done anything to deserve being dropped as number 1. Pope has hopefully shown enough in training to go as it would be very disappointing if Henderson goes instead of him. I think it will be Pickford, Ramsdale, and Pope barring injury issues.

Comment #26Bradden Inman never started a game for Newcastle, he was named on the bench a couple of time if I recall correctly. One thing I do know is his parents owned the Berkeley Tavern pub in Whitley Bay until they sold it to move to Crewe when he transferred there. I saw him in there a few times when he came back from training.
Just did a quick google of him, he was last seen playing for Mumbai City in the Indian League.

Comment #32Given the fact we are going to be depleted for the Fulham game on Saturday i personally think a draw would be a very satisfactory result, also even if Wilson plays you have to factor in he is not going to be match fit, that usually takes about 3 games when a player returns from a long injury. To all you lads who will be attending the game on Saturday i hope you have a great time guys and the Toon make me eat my words HWTL.

Comment #40Problem is, Toon Barmy, that not only did he gift the Germans an equaliser, he looked nervy when playing out from the back, especially in the first half, and his kicks upfield left the pitch from time to time.
I really hope he can put the game behind him for Saturday.
I canāt imagine him being number two to Pickford in Quatar, although I think heāll make the squad.
