Newcastle Send Scouts To Watch Danish U21 International

Newcastle were one of many clubs who sent scouts to watch Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley with the Denmark U21s the past week. Football Scotland has reported that scouts were present when the 21-year-old opened the scoring in Denmark’s match against Croatia on Tuesday.

Newcastle’s interest in O’Riley was confirmed by the player himself as he said the following earlier this month:

“I know Leicester showed a lot of interest in me. And I think Newcastle was there too. But it wasn’t a matter of any of them making a bid. If there’s no bid, it’s not very concrete in my head.

“I didn’t really think about it because nobody from Celtic told me that, for example, Newcastle had made a bid. It wasn’t like that, so there wasn’t much to think about, and a lot is written in the media as well.

“It’s great to get some recognition because it means I’m doing well at Celtic. But like I say, Celtic right now is the perfect place for me. It’s a big club, we play in the Champions League, the fans are insanely good and the team is good.

“It’s a perfect place to be, and I also think it’s a good place to be if I want to go to the World Cup with Denmark.”

O’Riley initially rose through the Fulham academy but limited opportunities resulted in him declining a three-year contract in 2020. It took until January of 2021 before he landed at MK Dons as a free agent.

He made 54 appearances with 10 goals and 8 assists for MK Dons before Celtic triggered his £1.5m release clause last January. During his time at Celtic Park, he has scored 4 goals with 7 assists in 29 appearances.

Newcastle may see something in the London-born midfielder who qualifies for Denmark through his mother. He could be one to watch in coming windows as he continues to impress in Scotland and is on the fringes of the full Denmark squad.

Fulham will be an interesting one

It might actually suit our current squad to play a team like them who are open for the counter

But it might be that we have too many injuries in terms of attackers who can score the goals

Haven’t Denmark got another player call Seamus Murphy or something like that, his Grandad was Irish American, maybe a load of Irish American GI’s stationed there in the war.

    Lee Charnley Bunga Party,
Aye, the two of the last three games have been against teams who are absolute pants in attack and Palace who came for a point. Fulham will very much be going for the win so hopefully it’ll be a nice open game and we’ll nick it.

Grim reaper here, just had a call to say a pal has had a stroke and is currently in the RVI stroke unit, has a brain hemorrhage. I hope he will be ok.

On Hendrick, the less said about that deal the better.

    valle,
Are there many people in Denmark with Irish names or is it just a really bizarre coincidence that the two that have happen to be footballers.

As I said yesterday, the education in this country can be shocking. The Rabbit is 6’2″ not 5’4″ or whatever. Still, She can speak up for herself. UNLESS!!! I am using an alt!! cue music.

O Reilly would be a great little player to get could really see him develop into a top class premier league midfielder

Celtic under Ange play some unreal football similar to Howe will eventually get us playing once we get the attackers needed

Some great stalwarts on here who have contributed a lot over the years and which I’ve enjoyed reading, even if I’ve not always agreed with them.

However, lately the site just seems to have become populated by some absolutely moronic, slack jawed half heads and spotty 14 year olds, whose vocabulary doesn’t seem to be able to extend beyond constantly using body part references in their playground insults.

Shame, as this has seen posters trickling down more and more each day.
