It’s been a difficult period for Isaac Hayden since last December. The midfielder was forced to undergo surgery on a chronic knee problem which ultimately ended his campaign as Eddie Howe left him out of the 25-man squad for the second half of last season.
Hayden secured a loan move to Norwich over the summer which includes an obligation to buy should they achieve promotion back to the Premier League. However, Hayden has yet to make his debut after complications arose in pre-season with his knee.
Isaac was getting close to returning but has again suffered a setback. The Athletic is reporting the 27-year-old returned to Newcastle for an assessment during the international break and will be sidelined for at least another 10 days.
Norwich boss Dean Smith is still hopeful Isaac can soon play a part in their promotion push. The Canaries are currently second in the Championship behind Ciaran Clark and Sheffield United. Clark has struggled with injuries himself and hasn’t played since the second week of August.
Hayden’s last appearance was the defeat against Manchester City on December 19th. He won’t return to training for a couple of weeks at the earliest. With the World Cup break coming in early November, there is an increasing risk he will miss an entire year of football.

Comment #43If Rafa still had the skills and drive to succeed at the top level, why did he go from us to China and then to Everton. All with virtually no success. His greatest strength for us was his ability to connect with the fans but his ability to manage the players wasn’t great, he didn’t achieve much and his style of football was not enjoyed by most.
Rafa seems like yesterday’s man to me. I’m much happier with us having a young and modern manager than someone like Rafa.

Comment #44And yes, I agree with the comments about the blog. The insults, the baiting, and the pettiness should just stop but it won’t while some people treat it like their personal playground. I think someone else used that term earlier and I wholeheartedly agree.
The mentality of “you’re either with us or you’re against us” is frankly ridiculous and keeps causing problems in the world wherever you see it. I can firmly disagree with someone on this blog about Rafa or Hendrick or ASM or Bruno or whoever but at the end of the day WE’RE ON THE SAME GODDAMN SIDE!!!
I’d have a beer around a Toon game with virtually anyone on this blog and I’d hope that virtually everyone on this blog would be ok to have a beer with me in the right context. However, there are a small number of people who would lead to me saying no thanks, which is frankly ridiculous on a TOON blog.

Comment #48I hadn’t been keeping track of Hayden at Norwich, but this is not good news. He hasn’t played at all yet, I really hope he comes back fit, gets into the team and earns himself a permanent transfer there or elsewhere. As I pointed out yesterday he is under contract with us until 2026!! – so the sooner we can find a new permanent home for him the better.
Having said that had Eddie given him a squad number having him as DM behind big Joe and Bruno could have been interesting given Shelveys injury, and would allow Bruno to play further forward. However, Eddie clearly did not see him as part of his plans so probably not worth thinking about that too much.

Comment #49Magic – Sadly, I am back to the cold and grey…it’s not awful but it’s not a patch on the weather for the last couple of weeks in Turkey and for several weeks before that at home too!
I did play golf this morning actually but I was very bad…shot 103 which is my worst round for quite a while. I felt rusty, tired, and my body was just stiff to be honest. Still nice to be out there…you?

Hi fella how`s you, i see you were a former customer of the dog and parrot, and i take it from your post it hasn`t always been called the dog and parrot? It`s a fine little bar and i had the pleasure of a planned meeting with Steve Wraith and Supermac while i was there, as supermac was one of my heroes it was an honour to meet the man himself in person HWTL

Comment #53Regarding Rafa it was well publicised at the time that our owners were keen on Rafa as Manager had the takeover happened when originally planned, of course it didn’t and Rafa walked, ultimately ending up at Everton once the takeover actually occured. I think this is was ultimately a good thing for us as I do feel Rafa’s best years are behind him now.
To answer your question though TDS Rafa went to China for the money and to Everton because his family home is still on the Wirral and I assume he thought he could be a success at Everton, despite fans of most teams (especially Everton) knowing this was unrealistic.

Comment #54Lesh, was only thinking of you when I saw Kier Starmer on the news feed earlier. Hope all well with you.
He comes across as a stateman, which is a decent starting point.
And he wore a Donegal gaa shirt playing football – so Ruddy and Magicman might disagree!

Comment #56Lesh! Thanks, just been on the most horrendous bus journey back from a resort an hour from us, there was so many people on I could hardly breathe, and I’m used to traveling on the metro to and from the match, the noise level was deafening, with the Spanish women screeching at each other.

The tribalism you see on here, if you extrapolate it, you can easily see how the worst things in history happened and kept happening and will happen again. Queensgate was the worst thing I’ve ever saw on here in my 12+ years and I can understand why so many left.

Comment #68Munster – I don’t even really have anyone to call a truce with to be honest. I don’t need a truce with Fenham, we disagree on lots of things and I think he gets too entrenched in his side of the argument but I don’t find him offensive just a bit too forceful. That’s ok. I don’t need a truce with Coming Home either, he can be absolutely fine but he’ll admit himself that sometimes he gets a bit carried away and turns into a bit of a t**t, that’s just who he is. And a truce with Mund is pointless, it would be like having a truce with a snake…sooner or later you know it’s just going to bite you anyway.

Comment #69I’ve always thought Hayden has the brains, tactical awareness and leadership qualities to be a manager. If his career ends early, it could be a blessing in disguise pushing him into to coaching early as with happened to Rodgers, maybe Howe, and possibly Mourinho.

Comment #70I’m hoping Everton have a crap season, and go down, but some how they always seem to scrape by. Especially the way they treated Rafa, after all what ever you think of him as a manager, be was a lovely man, and he’ll always be special to the crowd at St. James Park.

Comment #71Munster – one thing I can say though is that I don’t think you help the situation sometimes. You can get sucked into an argument and return with insults and overly aggressive comments. Now, I may agree with you on many of those comments and observations but getting heated and resorting to those insults just gets you nowhere and can make you look just as bad as the people you’re arguing with. I know it’s hard but sometimes it’s just about being the bigger person and letting their insults and aggression slide by…makes for a more peaceful blog for everyone.

Comment #77ZG – I agree! Supporting the Toon is my one bit of tribalism in my life. I’m not a staunch nationalist or monarchist, I don’t overly align myself with one political party, I don’t consider myself northern or southern really, I’m wouldn’t say that I’m proud (or indeed the opposite) about being a straight, white male. I’m just me. Supporting the Toon is my one illogical, passionate belief where I’m happy to stand in a stadium for a couple of hours and chant about how bad the opposition is. Then, I’ll leave and happily have a chat and a beer with anyone.
Breaking down a Toon blog into cliques is just bloody pathetic in my view. We’re already a pretty damn small clique of Toon fans on this particular blog!

Comment #78Nijmegen – Rafa was a huge name for a Chinese club though. I thought they offered him some kind of DoF role or something didn’t they? He certainly wasn’t overly successful there and even if he was, managing in China is a long way beneath the level that a manager of his calibre should be doing.
He was good with the fans, that’s why so many Toon fans like him. He was warm with the fans and went against Ashley.
