BBC pundit Chris Sutton has given his predictions for this weekend’s fixtures. He has Newcastle picking up a point in a 1-1 draw at Fulham on Saturday.
Here is Sutton’s take on the match:
Newcastle aren’t on a particularly good run and have only won once this season, but I like the way they play and they have deserved more from a couple of games they have drawn so far.
But the Magpies might be short up front here, with Alexander Isak definitely out, Callum Wilson on his way back from injury and Chris Wood picking up a knock on international duty.
So, I am going for a draw here. Being honest, Fulham have surprised me with the way they have started this season so well and they have a bit of confidence in defence as well as their attack. They clearly believe in the way they play.
Fulham have had a terrific start to the season with 3 wins and 11 points. Those successes have them 6th in the league table as they hope to avoid another immediate drop back to the Championship.
They depend heavily on former-Magpie Aleksandar Mitrovic who is joint second in the Premier League with 6 goals. He is coming off of international duty with Serbia having scored 4 times.
However, he picked up a knock over the weekend and was seen with his foot bandaged after Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Norway. Mitrovic may not be 100% at Craven Cottage on Saturday though will likely play.
Newcastle’s early part of the campaign has been defined by injuries. Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Bruno Guimaraes have missed multiple matches due to hamstring injuries. Bruno returned from Brazil early with a thigh problem.
The midfielder is expected to play at Fulham. Callum Wilson is also in line for his return while Saint-Maximin has an outside chance of featuring. As Sutton states, Alexander Isak has been ruled out for a couple of weeks.
A draw would not be a terrible result under the circumstances. Newcastle have been unlucky with just one win at the start of the campaign. We may not find out how good this team is until all of the stars are fit and playing.

Comment #44I notice Magicmac was asking about odds of Bruce being sacked and I trawled the net looking for them but to no avail. I can only assume the bookies have stopped taking bets.
I did see he is 150/1 for England manager, Allardyce is only 100/1 as is Shearer!

Comment #50EGB based on evidence presented by Jane last night it is not clear if anyone wanted Hendrick in advance of him signing but plenty of people thought he would be a good addition once it was announced. But as evidenced since then we can all be wrong about players and sometimes it is just case of right player, wrong club/wrong time/played in wrong position.

We haven’t been ‘unlucky’ we’ve been robbed of points by some very dubious referring and VAR officiating which some see as being indicative of how shall we say..malpractice?

Comment #66To be honest I dont see it being any kind of serious tournament if it were to happen hence I suggested it as a replacement for soccer aid. Who would manage the teams? what preparation would they have with their squad? etc etc.

Comment #67Soccer aid is for charity and celebrities. This would be more serious for money men and sponsors and global television. Every player would want to be involved as it would suggest the best of their respective leagues. Selection criteria most likely manager of the season? Best 11 of the season like they vote currently?

Comment #69Agree Nijmegen, will be interesting, imo if Wilson is fit he must start, I dont want to see him on the bench. If he is fit enough to be on the bench he is fit enough to start and there is always a chance he won’t get injured.
We have to go all guns blazing for a win which I know is Eddie’s mentality. I think he either starts or is not one the teams sheet cos he is not ready, same with Bruno and possibly Maxi but from what I read Maxi is behind the other two so would be surprised to see Maxi.

From a few threads back, a fair comment on me I can be a twa@t I agree but I’ll not make anymore posts when I’m on the drink anymore I’ll try to keep my banta light
But you need to cut Mund some slack he only said that Hendrick being a coup was absurd which I agree with, Bruno was a coup and maybe Botman to me a coup means getting a player above our station now no way would Hendrick be above us
Maybe you used the wrong fraz
Also you harp on about not insulting others while you call some fu#kwits which isn’t cricket
Anyway you’ll get no insults from me now but you could also do the same

Comment #71I know what soccer aid is, I was finding a way to make it a somewhat useful tournament, we wont have to watch celebrities, more countries get involved in soccer aid etc.
If it is about money for the rich where does the money actually go in the format you allude to?

Comment #74Benton gets a makeover but the money is still on Parklands at Gosforth for the new Training Centre. Owned by the Reubens and the Saudis loves a racecourse, seems plausible
Expect an eco build and some impressive facilities. Wonder if the old Gosforth Park Hotel will be demolished to make way for new icon buildings?

You posted the below in the last thread:
“I don’t need a truce with Fenham, we disagree on lots of things and I think he gets too entrenched in his side of the argument but I don’t find him offensive just a bit too forceful”
Do you find me assertive, vigorous and powerful?
The above is what forceful is….
You don’t know me from Adam (used that saying a lot on here) but if you did know me you’d change the forceful to passionate. Just saying 😉

#70 lol well said fu#kwits indeed,. YCMIU tbh mate.
All that happened was a debate and posters have a Right to call out another person’s posts if they don’t agree in a diplomatic manner of course which it all was yesterday, no abuse. This is the guy that wants CoC on here and harped on about it for an uncomfortable period of time? 🙄
Ffs just let people post as they like. As long as it’s non abusive. It’s a football blog with a lot of passionate men/woman.
Let’s get back to basics on here and chat, debate, without feeling you may insult anyone. I’m not insulted by the way by being called Forceful, just found it odd as the guy doesn’t know me at all but his comment would point out he grew up with me in the same gaff ?
Anyway onwards and upwards
