Pundit Praises Newcastle But Predicts More Of The Same At Fulham

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has given his predictions for this weekend’s fixtures. He has Newcastle picking up a point in a 1-1 draw at Fulham on Saturday.

Here is Sutton’s take on the match:

Newcastle aren’t on a particularly good run and have only won once this season, but I like the way they play and they have deserved more from a couple of games they have drawn so far.

But the Magpies might be short up front here, with Alexander Isak definitely out, Callum Wilson on his way back from injury and Chris Wood picking up a knock on international duty.

So, I am going for a draw here. Being honest, Fulham have surprised me with the way they have started this season so well and they have a bit of confidence in defence as well as their attack. They clearly believe in the way they play.

Fulham have had a terrific start to the season with 3 wins and 11 points. Those successes have them 6th in the league table as they hope to avoid another immediate drop back to the Championship.

They depend heavily on former-Magpie Aleksandar Mitrovic who is joint second in the Premier League with 6 goals. He is coming off of international duty with Serbia having scored 4 times.

However, he picked up a knock over the weekend and was seen with his foot bandaged after Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Norway. Mitrovic may not be 100% at Craven Cottage on Saturday though will likely play.

Newcastle’s early part of the campaign has been defined by injuries. Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Bruno Guimaraes have missed multiple matches due to hamstring injuries. Bruno returned from Brazil early with a thigh problem.

The midfielder is expected to play at Fulham. Callum Wilson is also in line for his return while Saint-Maximin has an outside chance of featuring. As Sutton states, Alexander Isak has been ruled out for a couple of weeks.

A draw would not be a terrible result under the circumstances. Newcastle have been unlucky with just one win at the start of the campaign. We may not find out how good this team is until all of the stars are fit and playing.

Fulham may not be easy pickings as they once were but I think whatever side we put out will be good enough
Mitro was in bandages after his international so hopefully he is sidelined
But either way I think we will have enough especially when we have a pug in the crowd

    CH,

I have a good mate down here who is Fulham and knows his stuff re Fulham. He says Mitro is touch and go, he said he feels he will just miss out.

Will we miss Isak more than they miss Mitro? Probably not

    That’ll do šŸ˜‰

Personally I found “entrenched” to be the most amusing choice of word today. I couldn’t help but picture some WW1 scene.

Actually wasn’t there a truce in WW1 in 1914 around Xmas (and to a lesser extent at other times) and soldiers exchanged food, cigarettes stories etc, they played football too didn’t they?

I do wonder what those guys would make of the last couple of generations (ie the likes of us)

Anyway, I mentioned Xmas in September…Bad Taco!! I know what I am buying everyone though, thick jumpers and thermal socks – Good Taco!!

This great blog is not toxic anymore, that is the main thing and much more comfortable reading, just differing opinions and characters… That’s all and nothing out of the ordinary or spectacular. It’s what blogs are for mate otherwise it would be a borefest ruled By CoC šŸ˜‰

I think Fulham have picked the wrong weekend to play us, even though we are still suffering from injuries, maximum and Wilson will play a part and will come out all guns blazing.

We will be hurting re the Bournemouth game and Eddie will ensure we are into them. Fulham won’t play the low deep line, they’re at home and will come at us at their peril.

Looking forward to this game so much will IMO blow the cobwebs away.

Mitro is a huge doubt and even if he plays he won’t be 100%.

I think Eddie will start with Wilson, try and get a 2 goal lead ASAP then sub him

    Score 2:0 to the toon

The so called “CoC” isn’t a Coc though is it. It is a “comments policy” I read it when I was on my laptop, I didn’t see anything unreasonable within it.

It could be asked “why is it less toxic here now?” Surely the comments policy was a factor in that.

At the end of the day we will have disagreements about this or that, but turning them into bizzare, bitter, personal disputes is a pointless exercise. If we want a soap opera blog we can start one somewhere else.

Wooah now thems 2 names from the past…Tony baloney and that Kevin both absolutely loved a row mind and totally thrived and walloed in it.

Adam was a decent poster that posted some very decent level headed balanced football posts IMO, he was a sensitive soul at times though. But as I mentioned earlier we are all different characters on here, however we have all got one thing in common and that is the love for NUFC which should always take precedence over anything else.

Coming Home – a 103 is a 103, no sugar coating it! Just one par all round and that required a very good putt from just off the green. I’ve definitely no problem admitting my bad rounds or crap shots!

As for Hendrick, I said something along the lines of he was considered a bit of a coup at the time. Well to many people he was and the blog post at the time proves that many considered him a good signing. Getting a player for free after playing 30+ games a season for a PL team that finished in the top half twice seems like a good signing to me. It didn’t work out but that doesn’t change the fact that it seemed like a good signing to boost our midfield. He played over 20 games for us the following season too.

Fenham Kevin Vegan was definitely odd, and the nonsense that the takeover was all a fake was just irritating nonsense. It was bizarre behaviour from a very left of centre guy. But whilst he was irritating, he shouldn’t have been hounded off.

Fenham – you say ā€œpassionateā€, I said ā€œforcefulā€, similar enough. I don’t know you of course, I only know the you that you portray on here. And on here, you come across as forceful and sometimes aggressive. Like I said in that post, I don’t have an issue with you as I don’t take it personally.

TDS, coup is just the wrong word. Solid signing or useful or cheap or value or something like that. But no a coup for me either. Just a wrong choice or words, although plenty of us were satisfied with the signing. Bruce played him as a left winger, because he loved defenders in midfield.

#94 that’s a flip side take on it. Good point actually to be fair.

However it’s up to the Harrison’s to police this blog. I recall a poster openly admitting emailing in with his own suggestions of a CoC which I personally didn’t get and appreciate. We should leave it to those that run the blog (who run it very well) to make decisions for the best of the blog when and where needed. Just my opinion of course. Posters should come on and post, and debate but never become embroiled in bitter spats and turn the place into a sea of bitter toxicity… I will not be a hypocrite here and I will hold my hand up and admit I become involved at times in a few spats as I allowed to be suckered in being overly passionate at times and channelled it in the wrong direction. I’ve come back after a lessons learned and genuinely hope I never overly insulted/offended anyone too much as I’m not that way inclined. Just a passionate fan of NUFC.

I don’t feel that I “constantly set about Mund” I just dislike when he goes after certain others here not because of a specific point they make but because of who is making the point.

I have agreed with Mund on many an occasion when it was pure footy, I like a lot of what he posts.

Munster – I think I wrote something like ā€œsome considered him a bit of a coupā€ at the time, which is how I remember it. He was seen as a good free transfer that other clubs were also in for. I know Wikipedia isn’t the greatest source but it says he was linked to Milan and Roma, hence my choice of words.

If we’d paid Ā£20m for him, it wouldn’t have seemed like such a good deal but on a free transfer I could definitely believe that a lot of clubs were in for him.

Coming Home – as I just said to Munster, I only said coup because he was free and my memory at the time. Wikipedia saying he was linked to Milan and Roma is possibly what I remembered and why it seemed like a coup at the time. Maybe a funny choice of words but I was just being a little creative. I tend to think of a signing as a coup when multiple clubs are in for him but I guess there’s no clear definition for words like that in football parlance…

As for my golf handicap, going to be tough in winter conditions. Got it below 20 though so that was the summer goal achieved. 19.7.

#104 without sounding biased in my honest humble opinion, I don’t see Mund going after people on here. However I’ve seen many go after him which at times was uncomfortable. He is a very passionate lad and he used to take the bait and fight back. To be fair and balanced he may have not forgotten sone of those that hounded him and maybe give them a bit of their own medicine.

But Mund comes on here to talk football as he is NUFC daft and is a good lad, in fact a very decent lad. Again just my opinion of course and definitely not biased, just what I’ve witnessed.

But it is all in the past and we all move on, but there will always be disagreements, just as long as they stay civil .

Goodnight all, that’s me off to bed.
