Botman, Murphy, And Wilson Start At Fulham

This is the team Eddie Howe has named for this afternoon’s match at Fulham. It has four changes from the draw against Bournemouth before the break.

Callum Wilson makes his return and Bruno Guimaraes is fit enough to start. Howe has pulled some surprises in other areas of the pitch.

Dan Burn is back at left-back despite both Matt Targett and Jamal Lewis in the squad. Jacob Murphy and Sean Longstaff are preferred over Ryan Fraser and Joelinton.

Fitness concerns may account for some of these changes. Chris Wood is available from the bench after being a doubt. The wait for Allan Saint-Maximin’s return continues.

This is who Marco Silva has selected for Fulham with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Kevin Mbabu getting starts.

Newcastle are desperate for a win but a number of factors play into today’s chances. The sharpness of Wilson after his layoff is of significant importance. The bench has a few options with Elliot Anderson a potential impact substitute.

Very unbalanced looking team today. Hopefully they will surprise us.

It’s a shame Howe hasn’t had an international break to look at players over the past two weeks to make an informed decision on his starting 11.

He probably should have come on the blog and asked us to vote on who starts.

Oh, sorry, my mistake, Howe actually has been training and watching the players for the past fortnight. Maybe he is picking players showing form. Just hazarding a wild guess.

Surprised to see Murphy start, but hopefully he can show something to prove me and the other doubters wrong.

Good to see Bruno and Wilson starting, gives me hope we’ll pick up 3 points today.

Whilst we don’t see them train, or really know who’s carrying what, I really don’t get or like this team. Ok, the ‘front’ 6 aren’t players out of position, but Murphy… say no more. Also, 3 LB’s on the bench!? Put a few kids on there!

Dan burn offers nothing at left back and willock is useless. This will 2 0 to Fulham. Very poor team starting

Wilson is a great finisher. That midfield will create nowt to finish.
Murphy would struggle in the Darlington team. How he gets a game beats me. Miggy creates nowt. Likewise Longstaff.
I worry about this team today.

With the amount of injuries we have been getting Howe needs to start making the substitutes count for something. Having 5 means that at least two can be brought on early to create impact, having disrupted the home team from the start.

i think the criticism of Murphy is unfounded as this is his first start this season and his sub appearances have mainly only been for a few minutes.

What a shitshow of a lineup
No Targett. No Joelinton. No Anderson
    Willock, Longstaff and Murphy
Wouldn’t get a start in another Premiership Team
We’ll get pulled all over the park
Sorry Howe in my eyes lost the plot with that team
    Hope I’m wrong

Yes there are some players playing today, who many wouldn’t want to start (or even come off the bench to make a positive impact). But can’t the lads not be given until a ball is kicked before they’re wrote off.

This isn’t Murphys first season at Newcastle. We’ve all seen him start before. And he’s limited.

I’d rather have Murphy on his right foot than miggy cutting in and getting nowhere on his left. Glad to see Botman. Strange team, I’m not sure Eddie is the biggest Targett fan in the world.

    Afternoon Fellow Fans

Not our strongest starting lineup for today`s match, and i see Mitrovic is starting for Fulham which makes the task even more difficult, under the circumstances i think a draw would be a very satisfactory result today. My forcast a 1-1 Draw HWTL.

I would imagine Burn is starting in place of Targett to give more height defending high balls against Mitro.

Jo benched – don’t get that unless he has a bit of a knock, unless…

Eddie noticed how well Willock did in centre mid against B’mouth when Bruno went off and has tried him their in training and liked what he’s seen – Willock can finish, Jo can’t, and that might be a partial reason but just guessing.

Murphy for Fraser – I’ve seen games that Murphy has impressed in, in parts. He is very quick, aggressive and does his share of closing and defending + he is one of the best finishers in training but hasn’t yet done that regularly in games.

Bottom line – we created next to nowt against B’mouth and Eddie is clearly trying something different. That old saying, if you keep doing the same thing and expecting different results, you are barking up the wrong tree.

Let’s hope what Eddie is trying works.

There will be bedlam on here if it doesn’t from those who like to panic and mud sling.

Im sticking with my 1-1 today, any team with Longstaff in midfield has a disadvantage, like playing with ten men.

Oh dear, just seen the line up, why is Joe on the bench, and Targett dropped?
If we lose this game then Howe`s decision making will be questioned, no doubt about it.
    Murphy, Longstaff ? come on.
