This is the team Eddie Howe has named for this afternoon’s match at Fulham. It has four changes from the draw against Bournemouth before the break.

Callum Wilson makes his return and Bruno Guimaraes is fit enough to start. Howe has pulled some surprises in other areas of the pitch.
Dan Burn is back at left-back despite both Matt Targett and Jamal Lewis in the squad. Jacob Murphy and Sean Longstaff are preferred over Ryan Fraser and Joelinton.
Fitness concerns may account for some of these changes. Chris Wood is available from the bench after being a doubt. The wait for Allan Saint-Maximin’s return continues.
This is who Marco Silva has selected for Fulham with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Kevin Mbabu getting starts.

Newcastle are desperate for a win but a number of factors play into today’s chances. The sharpness of Wilson after his layoff is of significant importance. The bench has a few options with Elliot Anderson a potential impact substitute.

Comment #41How do Anderson and big Joe start on bench and Murphy gets a game?
Howe needs to get some results after spending over 200 million.

You surprise me, Murphy aggressive? our eyes clearly don’t work the same as mine, timid is what I would have said. Hop he scores a hat-trick, mind!

Comment #45The squad is the squad. As paper thin as it is, there’s at least three players named on that bench that should be starting…in Eddie we trust but it seems a left field call for sure.

Comment #46Wow that is a lot of negativity before a ball has been kicked. I am sticking with 2-1 NUFC.
Hoping the lads going have been able to make it to the game on time given all the disruption.

Let’s watch him today and discuss at HT and at the end.
What I see is strength on the ball, a willingness to challenge, tackle and chase back.
Doesn’t make him a great player but it doesn’t make him timid.

Comment #50I agree with the comments that Burn is starting alongside Botman to give Newcastle some additional height to counter the threat of Mitro.

Comment #61Perhaps Big Joe on the bench is for another tactical reason by Howe as in Joelinton has been a bit of a loose cannon in recent games.

Comment #71There are 10 other players that play for fulham apart from Mitro
…why put Burn in as left back because it significantly weakens the left back position. Fulham scored three last match and mitro wasnt involved in any of the goals…seems strange to put on a big daft geordie just because he’s tall to mark Mitro on corners when Botman should be doing that job.
It would make more sense to play botman and Burn as CB’s with targett as left back surely
Overall balance is surely key.

Comment #72Happy to see Almiron on the left finally. Not sure about this midfield setup, though. Joelinton on the bench is shocking, I’d say.

Comment #73I expect a 0-2 win, but we’ll need to be patient. Not normal for here on matchday!
Can’t see us conceding, just need something to click up front.
It wasn’t working with Miggy/Fraser/Joe, so he’s trying Murphy/Willock/Miggy.
Let’s see. 😉
