Today marks the three-year anniversary of a special moment for local lad Matty Longstaff. It was on this date in 2019 that Matty scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Manchester United at St. James’ Park on his Premier League debut.
? A magical moment from @mattylobby48 on this day in 2019!

That moment might end up being the high point of the Geordie’s career with his hometown club. He started the next two matches but has amassed just 20 appearances in total for Newcastle with 3 goals.
Matty is now 22 years old and out on loan with Colchester United in League Two. He has started all five league matches for Colchester since joining on deadline day. His loan spell runs until January when he’ll return to Newcastle.
The midfielder’s contract runs out next summer with little chance he’ll make the grade at St. James’ Park. While his older brother Sean has been in Eddie Howe’s rotation, Matty wasn’t given much of a chance to impress this summer.
He spent last season on two loan spells. The first, under former Magpie Stephen Glass at Aberdeen, ended early after just 5 appearances. He then went to Mansfield Town where he played well with 6 goals and 2 assists.
The takeover one year ago this week raised the standard at Newcastle United. While he has provided a few memorable moments, Matty’s future is likely elsewhere. However, he’ll always have that magical goal to treasure.

Comment #44Ah good to see the World Economic Forum appears to have finally ended. I was going to complain but then I remembered that I have probably bored many people to death with pool, postboxes, David Lynch, ideas for recipies for wing sauce etc etc, not to mention some of my lengthier footy posts.

Comment #46I’m fairly pleased they ditched the ambassador roles. We all knar Alan and Kev do we really need them telling us how great our new owners are?

Nowt wrong in a little airing views, tastes, recipes etc… so long as it stays the correct side of civil, or what?
Grown ups should able to manage that, hey?
Specially as we actually share at least one common interest!
On the eve of our collective anniversary!
Uh oh! ‘Collective’
A rash of tribalism may break out!
Oh! The irony!

Sensible to me unless/until some can explain to me exactly what an official club ambassador really does anyway and then we can rationally discuss who would be good for the job. As I said Shearer in my mind is an ambassador now anyway but BBC pay him instead of us which sounds perfect to me.
Apparently Carlo Cudicini is an ambassador for Chelsea. Who here can honestly say they knew that? I am not convinced this ambassador role is a big deal and some must have position.

Just a bit of a dead end PR exercise as everyone’s knowledge of cudicini’s role indicates. It was probably am avenue with investigating at the time but I think the owners underestimated the power that just replacing Ashley has as PR. Pretty much all nufc fans instantly loved them. No need for KK and AS to do anything. Ashley did it all for them.

It’s generally lip service to a past hero. Imv.
Eales, ashdown, amanda et al are the actual ambassadors, aren’t they?
It’s probably a fan led dream, too.
Football fans are a pretty emotional bunch.

Fair point, everyone employed at the club that is in the public eye is an ambassador for NUFC to some extent.

Comment #56Well I stepped away at the wrong time! So much to comment on. Sorry I can’t remember who posted about a Toon documentary. My concern is what ends up on the cutting room floor. What we see is what the Producer and Editor want us to see. Unless of course, the Toon keep editorial control.

The problem with 3:00pm kick offs, is you can only get about 25mins max of the game on Sky or a few mins on MotD. Legally that is.
Yep, that’s my problem. I know I could get a VPN and a firestick and even though there’s next to no chance of being caught I just can’t do it. So it’s whatever SKY, Motd and NUFC put out.
Right, couple of things to do followed by a read back. Play nice people. 🙂
