Howe Provides Injury Update On Three Magpies

Newcastle are back at St. James’ Park tomorrow as the club celebrates the anniversary of the takeover, which happened one year ago today. Brentford will hope to play spoilers on what will hopefully be an afternoon to remember.

Eddie Howe has shaped Newcastle into a formidable force with the aid of our ambitious new owners. He held his press conference this morning for tomorrow’s clash against the Bees.

Howe remarked on the one-year anniversary of the takeover saying the following per Newcastle’s Twitter account:

“The club’s come a long way. That positivity is still there. It’s a difficult thing to keep and everyone behind the scenes has done a very good job in putting the building blocks in place for what the club needs for long term success.”

The head coach provided an update on the injury situation that has plagued the start of this campaign. Despite missing Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes, and Allan Saint-Maximin for stretches, Newcastle are still 7th in the league table.

Of the trio, only Saint-Maximin is yet to return while summer signing Alexander Isak missed last week’s dismantling of Fulham with a thigh injury. Both were not featured in Wednesday’s training images.

That may have been at Howe’s behest. He has confirmed that Allan trained well this week and has a chance of making tomorrow’s squad.

“He’s doing OK. He’s trained well this week and we’re pleased with him. He’s making good progress. There’s a chance he could be in the squad tomorrow.”

Unfortunately, it is too soon for Isak, whose injury is still preventing a return to full training. The Swede is making progress individually but has been ruled out for Brentford.

“He’s running on grass and increasing his speed so he’s in a good place. Hopefully, it won’t be too long.

“He suffered a muscle problem to his thigh and his scan wasn’t overly bad but the medical team are just being cautious with him at this moment.”

Howe also revealed that Jonjo Shelvey is preparing to return to training today. The midfielder has made great strides since undergoing hamstring surgery in pre-season. Here is the update on Shelvey:

“His recovery is going very well. He’s ahead of schedule and he’s hopefully going to be involved with us today in training for the first time. There will still be caution as to when he’s ready to play but he’s making positive strides at the moment.”

Howe could name the same team that destroyed Fulham last weekend. He probably won’t risk Saint-Maximin from the start but could give him a cameo if he passes his fitness test. Isak appears to still be a few weeks away while Jonjo will hopefully be back before the World Cup break.

A pity Isak and Jonjo are still some time away, but at least it’s pretty good news on the rest.

Roll on 2pm tomorrow to see what 11 Eddie picks. Can’t wait.

Tomorrow is going to be an awesome day for all those involved, enjoy it and let’s get another 3 points to get the roller steaming (or should that be the steamer rolling)! Ha ha who cares let’s just win with a bit of style. 😀

    Jail

There was a little canary fluttering around here with a note pad and pencil while you were locked up. Perhaps if you trade some of the grain in your shoes he would give you a look. 😉

    Agree – same starting 11.

Subs: Karius, Almiron, Burn, Willock & Anderson

It’s getting better overall when they’re all fit and available.

It’s an incredible achievement and obliterates the first Friday in October record set way back in 2011. Haven’t got my notes so couldn’t tell you the poster 😕

    Part three https://theathletic.com/3653099/2022/10/07/newcastle-united-takeover-saudi-arabia-influence/

Nowhere near as good as part one, will just leave this snippet here.

“So, PIF has opened its books. It now has $608billion in assets and is aiming to stretch that past $1trillion by 2025. It directly employs 1,750 staff but MBS wants it to create hundreds of thousands of jobs in Saudi Arabia, for Saudi Arabians. This will be done by creating futuristic cities powered by renewable energy, attracting the world’s biggest companies and creating some of their own.

Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam’s holiest shrines, wants to beat Dubai on tourism, surpass Abu Dhabi as a commercial centre, put Qatar back in its box and remind the entire region who is boss. PIF’s investments in real estate, electric cars, computer games, Phil Mickelson and footballers are all part of the plan.””

Put Qatar back in it’s box – that made me laugh, they truly hate each other.

Watched an interesting nature documentary on the Arabian peninsula a couple of years ago.

In my ignorance I was surprised to learn that it actually rains there seasonally. When it does the greenery which it promotes/unleashes is quite something.

Hmm, a lot of the media have been suggesting Steve Cooper was going to be sacked, whereas Forest have given him a new contract this morning.

Bold move by Forest there, an extended contract is worth a thousand “The Manager has the full backing of the board” statements.

I was just saying the other day that that would be the most important thing to do, keep cooper for the full season. They need that constant in the sea of signings they made.

Good touch by extending his contract.

    Repost from earlier thread.

How did I feel 12 months ago on this day?

Absolutely “over the moon” that the take over I had faith in had come to be.

How do I feel today a full year later?

Absolutely “over the moon” and immensely grateful with the progress we are making and at the thought of things to come.

Come they will, it’s not a case of if but when!

    HOWAY me Bonny Bairns!

I especially like the bit where he says, and I am paraphrasing a bit here… ” Why don’t you ask the premier League what they think of the whole thing…”

    Bob

I usually go for a custom brekkie from Morrisons caf. Three finger, two or three hash browns, beans, fried egg, black pudding, sometime mushrooms and always two slices of white toast.

    Bacon is for sandwiches!

After that brekkie I usually head home and nap for 2 hours. 😀

    Cleverly,

If you have a good, robust bread (a nice sourdough for example) you can make kipper butties and you don’t actually notice the little bones due to the bread. Sounds odd but it is true.

Pick out the larger kipper bones but there’s no need to worry about the very fine ones – they’re digestible.
