Alan Shearer’s Rave Review Of Brilliant 5-1 Home Win

Newcastle icon Alan Shearer was delighted with how Newcastle put on a great display at the venerable St. James’ Park today, as we took Brentford apart 5-1 with Brazilian International Bruno looking like a player who costs at least £100M – he was so good.

Bruno joined us when things looked dark last January, and he is now seeing Newcastle vision starting to come true.

An excellent all round team display from the lads today, and it’s a long time since we won two games in a row 4-1 and 5-1 in the Premier League.

Good words there from Alan – and he’s only telling the truth – Bruno is an unbelievable capture for this new Newcastle United.

At this point I’d better admit to a man crush for Willock. Just love the way he covers the ground, some athlete.

I think this should allow you all to see highlights – quite legitimately.
    https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-highlights/video/36504/12715735/newcastle-5-1-brentford-premier-league-highlights?dcmp=NewcastlevBrentford2022VOD
I have a Sky subscription and it may be linked to that and not work but it does say free to view.
If it doesn’t work please give me feedback.

I thought Pinnock for Brentford was our MOM? 1 goal and an assist? I was more than happy with his contribution. Seriously though, Bruno on another level.

Just got back home from the match,
Was just a pleasure to watch the kids loved it.
For me Bruno was sublime and also thought almiron was on another lvl today never stopped running and got his reward for it at the end but to be fair the whole team played well.
We even had a strong bench.
Brentford fans full of voice for 10mins then started leaving at 70 mins.
Got talking to an Aussie Brentford fan on the way out and he said we were exciting to watch and he thought that we will finish top 6 also said the young lad we have signed is class, saying he was the best Aussie since a young harry kewell.

Miggy so deserves that goal !

I know Bruno got the MOTM but Miggy must be a mare to have running at you that fast, that often for as long as he is on the pitch !

    Jasper,

That link for the highlights works perfectly just watched the goals again.
It didn’t show Almiron effort in the first couple of minutes though,
From where I was sitting it was a great effort bound for the top corner but the keeper pulled off a great save.

Miggy has one serious engine in him just never stops and starting to find the end product
All the people that were wanting him sold are nuts.

I was one of the people slating Murphy’s selection last week (just for the record I used to play in his 5-a-side league and saw him play loads at Norwich so I’m not anti-Murphy by any stretch) but I’ll eat my words. Eddie is an astounding coach to get these performances out of the likes of Lobby, Murphy, Miggy (wow) and to some extent Fraser. Bruno is going to be the engine of this new era, he is something else. The spine of the team is really solidifying now and the 4 players who are currently vying for the three in midfield are just class.

Oh and regarding highlights – if you download the sky sports app on your phone, you get the highlights of each game around an hour after they’ve ended.

Strange old game – even at 3-1 I could see us to do something daft
At times we were brilliant closed down when they tried to play out from back keeper had a game to forget
    Midfield caught on the ball
    Defence good and awful
Bruno brilliant – Trips not far beh

I agree Miggy was great today. But Bruno was too, and got 2 goals. The second at an absolutely crucial time when they were getting back in to the game!!!

    Bruno gets my motm.

    Carltoon,
Gutted for you that you missed such a big win & you didn’t need to keep your fingers crossed at 88 minutes. Hopefully there’s many more games to come like today!

Strange old game – even at 3-1 I could see us to do something daft
At times we were brilliant closed down when they tried to play out from back keeper had a game to forget
Midfield tend to dwell on ball caught on the ball
    Defence good and awful
Bruno brilliant – Trips not far behInd
    My merit marks
Pope 6 – one excellent stop first half when we fell asleep but thought he was struggling with crosses – flapped at a couple and distribution not the best – needs to improve to be Englands no 1
Burn 6 – another who struggled today caught out a couple of times when he got to far forward. Chasing shadows a couple of times. Lost his man giving away pen
Schar 6 another struggled today defending looked like he was playing rugby to many times
Botman 8 – outstanding in defence and carried a threat when going forward
Trippier 8.5 outstanding today mopped up at the back and his distribution excellent all game.
Longstaff 7 – started slowly got caught out for their offside goal but got better as game went on
Bruno 9 – outstanding in defence and attack two good goals. Covered every blade of grass – no wonder he went down with cramp and had to be substituted
Murphy 7 – great to see him get his goal good on the ball and control. Just needs to be a bit stronger
Willock 7 – full of running linked up broke up play with Wilson but again needs to be a bit stronger. Left shooting boots at home – desperate for a goal
Almiron 8 – unlucky first minute with shot well saved – ran and chased closed down all game and got his reward with goal near end – becoming a bit of a cult hero
Wilson 7 – another who worked hard with no reward – set up Murphy’s goal with closing down poor clearance. Looked tired still not up to speed I think
    Subs
Big Joe 6 – made a difference with his strength out muscling players and getting in cross for last goal. First ball passed to Bruno as if telepathic and with Maxi when he came on
Max 6 – full of running linked up with Joe down the left
Targett 6 – for me should start excellent full back kept it simple did not get dragged out of position
Anderson 5 – got stuck in but not on long enough
Woods – not on long enough think touched the ball once
Howe 9 – everything right including subs to keep them fit for next week

Charlie I’m guessing you’d want us to score like ten to give higher marks :).

5-1 demolition and people getting sixes? You’re being a bit stingy. You paying for those points? 🙂

I just thought we were a bit complacent at the back at times today and and if not for Bruno’s covering could of been a tad different early on
