This is the team I am predicting Eddie Howe will select for Saturday’s match against Chelsea. It has 6 changes from the Carabao Cup win a few days ago and 3 changes from the win at Southampton over the weekend.
The back four is likely to revert to the one that has been so superb since the beginning of October. Howe made three changes to his backline for the Carabao Cup. While a clean sheet was kept, I can’t see any of the three keeping their places tomorrow.
The midfield could cause Howe some headaches. He has a quintet of fit midfielders pushing for their place. For tomorrow, I suspect Sean Longstaff could be rested after starting the previous 8 matches with Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock, and Joelinton getting the nods.
During his press conference on Friday, Howe revealed Callum Wilson was still suffering from the illness that forced his early withdrawal at Southampton. The England striker has not trained with the group this week and could miss out tomorrow.
If so, Chris Wood is the only available option with Alexander Isak still out injured. Howe did provide a positive update on the Swede as his latest scan has shown his thigh injury has healed. Isak should return to training during the World Cup break.
October’s Player of the Month Miguel Almiron is certain to return to the starting eleven. To cover for the potential loss of Wilson, Howe may hand Allan Saint-Maximin another start on the left despite it being on short rest.

Comment #2I think he will go for the same line up as Southampton, with Wood instead of Callum

Comment #3Agree with Neil’s team apart from 2 positions. I think Wilson will start. Maybe come off when we are 2:0 3:0 up. Also I don’t think Maxi will start I IMO I think Murphy will start with Maxi coming on later. I’ve not seen anything of Maxi to prove he is up to speed. Love to be proved wrong especially with Maxi and he starts and has a worldie performance. It’s something Maxi can pull out that bag. However I think Murphy will get the nod and Wilson to start. This game is far to important for Wilson not to start. Just give him some Sambucol extra defence and he’ll be reet as rain

Comment #5Part of the problem with Rafa is that his approach to the game smells. Howe believes in creative football and high press and playing from the back. Rafa ended up playing a very similar style to Fat Sam. Defensive depth, compact, sideways passing and whoosh it long. Even with identical players, Howe will try to get a team playing attractive football. We got lucky with Howe because Emery is more cautious than Eddie.

As much as we love Eddie H, he himself wouldn’t even dare put himself in the same bracket as a manager who had won every single domestic and European managerial trophy!

Comment #7Chelsea won’t be available to live with Murphy Wilson and Miggy running at them, expect goals, even penalty and red card as their defence back tracks.
Max exploits more space when they’re tiring, Wood better later than sooner likewise.

Comment #12Newspaper extract from 5 years ago. Mike Ashley/Mr Tubbs saying he was not going to spend money on the team.
Seeing that we have now been informed that he had nothing to do with buying players/signing cheques – there must have been an imposter at the helm at SJP.

Comment #14You cannot fairly compare Rafa under the unmentionable one and Eddie now. Rafa had to make do with what he was given, Eddie is being allowed to build. I will always be grateful to Rafa for what he did but that is now history. We now have a fabulous future to enjoy, maybe we should be concentrating on that. Just a thought.

Comment #18Silly season is underway already.
Newcastle want Villarreal’s Spain defender Pau Torres,25, Atletico Madrid’s 29-year-old Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco and Real Betis’ France midfielder Nabil Fekir, 29, this summer. (Fichajes – in Spanish)

Comment #24How could you argue with the post #12 if you are a bona fide staunch NUFC fan. 99% on here couldn’t or shouldn’t. We are an NUFC Blog so 99% it is…
Maybe 1 or 2 blog imposter’s could and generally would who indulge in wummery of the highest order on a daily sometimes hourly basis on this great blog. Wor great NUFC blog….They’ve been outed big time lately. They are 2 of the most boring uninteresting posters on here where they attempt at every poppy to ensure the scenery is dull and tiresome as they post their shite.
In order of uninteresting wummery posting is:
– At No1 = The hugely bigoted republican from a land they call Monsters Inc. hates anything English, potentially British whilst he comes on here and bigs up his own land in which he dwells in and trolls from like a demented instigator… A bona fide genuine hater of most our posters history and heritage on this blog. But he couldn’t give 2 fooks and mainly goes unchecked when posting his hatred. We should all see this and appreciate what it is.
– Straight in at No2 = A Tool Doon Saaaarf, a world champion BS artist and geek of the highest order that goes against all things normal which strangely fights against the grain of conforming to a standard which is usual, typical, or expected in normal rational thinking.

Comment #29I know it’s been mentioned by a few others, but I highly recommend everyone watches the FIFA uncovered documentary on Netflix. What an eye opener!!
Really pleased we won the WC in 66 long before FIFA discovered how to make money out of football.
Also, not wishing to be too much of a spoiler, I’ve gone right off Adidas. You have to watch if you want to find out why.
It’s a limited series 4 x 1hr episodes. I’ve only watched the 1st and am truly gobsmacked at the level of corruption. Ep 1 called “the rise of Sep Blatter”.

Comment #32Jail for clarity I was pleased when Eddie arrived, but wanted Emery when it came down to two. Once he was left we were nearly all pleased as we had started to study him more over the course of that week or so. But nobody wanted Eddie when the first bookies list of managers came out . And initially I was concerned about his defensive ability, which was the correct way to be, given Bournemouth’s known weaknesses. But we git an upgraded Eddie, no doubt about that. He says so himself.
