Injured Magpie Provides An Update On His Long Recovery

Emil Krafth, who was spotted at the training facility during last week’s edition of Toon in training, has provided an update on his recovery from the ruptured ACL he suffered almost three months ago.

Krafth injured his knee in the first half of the Carabao Cup win at Tranmere in August. It was his first significant action of the season having only featured in the waning minutes of the Man City draw previously.

The Swede found out the dreadful news a few days later that he was set for an extended period on the sidelines. The news arrives just as his compatriot Alexander Isak had become Newcastle’s record signing.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk, the right-back has revealed that another teammate has provided guidance on his injury. Callum Wilson, who has suffered a couple similar injuries, has been very supportive in Emil’s recovery.

Here is some of what Krafth said:

“Everybody has been very supportive and some of the lads know what I’m going through with tough injuries.

“Callum Wilson has been very supportive and we have spoken a lot. He told me about his rehab and how he recovered and kept positive and this really helps.

“I still have a long way to go because my injury was tough and the first few weeks were hard when you can’t do much after surgery.

“Now I can do more and more and each day is a step closer to playing and it helps me to focus and stay positive when I’m watching the team and seeing how great they are doing.

“The medical team have been so good and supportive. They’ve seen injuries like this before so they know what players are going through and how they can help in all aspects and how to make me keep feeling good.

“When it’s a long injury it can be hard to keep going but the schedule they give me is really good and mixes things up a bit.

“I’ve done some rehab in Sweden for a few weeks so I can be with family and friends and help switch my focus into other areas and not just think about my injury all the time.

“Now I’m in Newcastle recovering and it’s been good. The doctor said it’s good for me to mix up the environment I’m in to keep feeling good and help with the whole process.

“There is still a long way to go but I have to keep myself motivated everyday and know it’s a step closer.”

Krafth blossomed under Eddie Howe in Kieran Trippier’s absence last season. He earned the moniker of Swedish Cafu or Krafu from some of the Toon faithful. His performances earned him an extension to 2024 over the summer.

The hard work to return must continue for Emil. Depending on his progress and what Newcastle do in the winter window, he may again be omitted from the 25-man squad when it is resubmitted after January.

Hopefully, he is close enough that he can play a part in the season’s final few months. The Magpies are primed for a battle for Europe after a superb start to the campaign. Getting Krafth back for at least some of the hectic final few months would provide a welcome boost.
