Newcastle Keen On Signing Young Right-Back In January

Newcastle appear to be targeting a young right back in January to provide additional cover at the position. With Emil Krafth out until the latter stages of the season, there is only Kieran Trippier and the rarely-utilized Javier Manquillo on board.

Over the weekend, The Mail reported that interest remains in West Ham’s Harrison Ashby. Newcastle tried to add the Scotland U21 international late in the summer but were rebuffed by the Hammers.

That report also broke the news that Leeds right-back Cody Drameh was also on the shortlist. That claim is now being back by transfer whiz Fabrizio Romano who tweeted the following on Monday.

Adding a young right-back makes a ton of sense. He’ll not only provide emergency cover but also can learn under one of the best in the business in Kieran Trippier for the next couple of seasons. Though Drameh has made his desire for playing time known at Elland Road.

As Romano reported, Drameh has some lofty admirers in Lille and the two German Clubs, who are renowned for their ability to add budding talent. He is an England U21 international who has 7 appearances for Leeds.

Interestingly, the youngster wasn’t one of the multitudes of academy players that Leeds manager Jesse Marsch drafted for the Carabao Cup defeat at Wolves last week. He made the bench for the first six matches but hasn’t been involved with the first team since the first week of September.

Drameh spent the second half of last season on loan with Cardiff where he made 22 appearances with 3 assists. His performances resulted with him being named their Player of the Season despite only joining in January.

One caveat with signing the 20-year-old is that he wants to play first-team football. He told Wales Online in late May that he would consider leaving Leeds if he wasn’t guaranteed first-team football this season. His wish has not been granted with Marsch adding Rasmus Kristensen over the summer.

If Newcastle do move for him, he may not fulfill the need for right-back cover but could be sent out on loan for the second half of the season like last year. Drameh’s contract runs out in 2024 and, for the right fee, could be a very solid addition to the ranks.

The extra time thing really p!sses me off too. It’s always biases at the end of the game, never at half time, but what really gets me is, say adding 5 mins at the end of 45 of football, then adding another 2 after only 5 has been played???

Weird, that it’s rarely the correct or extended mins 1st half!!!
I understand some added if there’s deliberate time wasting after the board has gone up. 1st half…not tho’, rarely, if ever?

On the Chelsea possession thing, they did have the ball for half the game but mostly in their own half and couldn’t find a way forward due to our press. They kept recycling it until they either hoofed it or we intercepted. Their time in our last third was practically non existent until the last 10 mins.

    clinath@ed,
Did it piss you off when ASM scored with the last kick of the ball against Wolves or does bias only happen when it works against us. Why would a ref favour Chelsea in a raucous ground that he probably wanted over and done with. We have accepted on here that bias does exist in football but it does not constantly work against us. Claiming we are perpetual victims is a very poor trait in a fan imo.

Some may benefit from it, some not, that doesn’t make it any less wrong.

For added time on Saturday, yes I was surprised at 7 mins but did think should be 5 so could have easily missed an extra min or 2. Dont think any bias at all with time added on and our players mess on as much as others to bring added time.

It looks like the rules for the Fantasy World Cup are considerably different to the FPL rules.

The choice of “Captain” seems to be a bit weird but it’s probably just the way I read the rule!

” Once your captain has played in the matchday, you are able to change your captain once more for another player who is yet to play. If you choose to change your previous captain, you will lose their double points and your new captain will score double instead. ”

It looks, to me, like it will cause some confusion; time will tell.

As fans we should be concerned about timewasting. It shortchanges all of us. All teams do it. Villa’s goalie was lucky not to be sent off for it at Brighton!

That’s why I’m pleased to see longer extra time if warranted by gamesmanship. Strong refereeing is required to tell players time is being added on.

Well done Raj for calling out bias. You can add conspiracy theories to that as well.

I have said it before and will say it again. In rugby (both codes) the ref just stops the clock. When play restarts he starts the clock. At the end of 80mins (rugby) a klaxon sounds telling the ref that this is the final play. In footie it would just mean full time.

100% agree Pug. It seems that Football is loath to cede any control away from the referee though. Even VAR asks him to look again, so he can change his mind, rather than just say, you’re wrong mate!

Ronway, looks like a good rule that. You just pick a captain who will play early in a round of fixtures and if he scores loads of points leave him as captain. If he does not then pick someone who hasn’t played yet.
