Newcastle’s Excellent Start Hasn’t Altered Winter Approach According To Local Journalist

Luke Edwards with The Telegraph is reporting that Newcastle’s unexpected place in the top four will not drastically alter the thinking behind the scenes. The aim for the season remains a top-ten finish with no intentions to change the pragmatic approach to the winter window.

Newcastle plan on using January to add strength in depth to guard against injuries. The position of right-back has become a priority with Emil Krafth potentially out for the entire campaign with his ACL injury. Though the Swede is making good progress with his recovery.

The club want to add a young right-back to learn under Kieran Trippier. West Ham’s Harrison Ashby and Leeds’ Cody Drameh are two youngsters being considered according to recent reports. A move for Ashby was rebuffed on the summer deadline day.

However, if one of the club’s top targets becomes available, such as Leicester City’s James Maddison, Edwards believes Newcastle will make a move. That could also be the case for Moussa Diaby, though Leverkusen are showing signs of life with Diaby providing the spark.

The need for a wide forward has been lessened with the form of Miguel Almiron. The Paraguayan has nailed down the right-wing role and is the Magpies’ leading scorer with 8 goals, many of which are highlight reel material.

Newcastle have also achieved their excellent start while coping with lengthy absences from Allan Saint-Maximin, Alexander Isak, and Jonjo Shelvey. In addition, Howe has extracted the best out of Jacob Murphy while budding talent Elliot Anderson continues to improve by the day.

There have been emerging claims that talks are underway for Velez Sarsfield midfielder Maximo Perrone. The deep-lying playmaker wouldn’t take up a squad place and cost around £12-15m. Adding the young Argentine and one of Ashby or Drameh, while taking a wait-and-see stance on Maddison or Diaby would be a sound approach.

    DrGloom,

Aye, the appearance money kitty thing which has recently been donated to charity rings a bell.

I remember the Toon’s claim against FIFA and the FA jointly for the Owen injury.
They both were jointly paying half his wages while he was tits up. Toon reached a compo agreement with them for over 10 million. Toon had to buy Obafemi Martins and that was the main part of the claim. Also medical bills were claimed for. Twas a good bit of arguing by Freddie Shepherd and the lawyers. Good result really.

    @TDS

Well sure a right footed player can cross on the left. But it’s not ideal, and we can’t say crossing is one of our strong points at the moment.

And it does work with Burn now, but for how many time?

Also, as i said, i would be happy with Targett, but Howe seem more skeptical.

niafron – as I said and also DrGloom has said too, crossing in the traditional sense (left footed left winger bombs down the wing and delivers a whipped in cross for a big centre forward to head into the net) is a rarer thing these days. Wingers are much more frequently “inside out” and can still cut inside to shoot or cross with their favoured foot. I think having Targett available opens up the options so if the opposition is vulnerable to crosses and we have a good target man in the box, then maybe we play Targett and get the crosses in.

In which case, I’d point out that I don’t see it would be Wilson playing centre forward, it would be Isak.

    It will, eventually, mate.

The lower leagues aren’t necessarily the innovators, are they?

    Not knocking them, either.
Just not the way the primary leagues are headed, is it?

Pretty sure there was a manager a good few years ago, may have been Souness, complained about internationals comparing it to factories saying that it was like someone coming to your factory, borrowing a multi million pound machine for a few weeks, not paying for it then potentially bringing it back broken without having to worry about mending it.

Even Portugal fc will probably leave him in Qatar after the wc, to make his own way back.

and some pundits moan that Toney should have been picked over Callum by Southgate !

Can we draw a line under certain topics, just fancy a quieter life without dross reporters and pundits who know nothing

Ronaldo – no, he can go to Chelsea or Florida

Bruno – not going anywhere – why would he even contemplate an approach from lower clubs. Arsenal and City are covered.

Max – Direchester want him to replace Ronaldo so they can try to sell more tacky shirts to London tourists, The club with no heart or sole.

    Evening all

I cant decide one way or the other about January, it has been suggested there is money there if they feel it necessary to bring player(s) in, for me if we can add a couple of players that will help get us CL then I think they will.

Who exactly they are I have no idea, discussed this today with few lads and one of them suggested Madison won’t be allowed to leave, Leicester pulling away and to lose him would be a financial calamity, could drop back into bottom 3.

Time will tell chaps, its a nice problem to have.

Newcastle United has partnered with Saudi Arabia’s national carrier, SAUDIA, as the club prepares for a warm weather training camp in Riyadh this December.

SAUDIA will be the club’s Official Tour Airline Partner when the team travels to Saudi Arabia, where they will play Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal Football Club as part of the 2022 Diriyah Season.

    Mort,
Given the absolute shite show and circus he’s caused at Man U and the disrespect he’s shown to his team mates and manager, the fact he’d want four times as much as our highest earner and demand to be played every week, that tells me you know more about FIFA PS5 than you do real world football.

20 Mins until the Ronaldo interview on TalkTV. I dislike Piers Morgan with a huge intensity. The last time I watched something he was in with any interest was when he was interviewing people on death row….I was kinda hoping one of them would beat him to death with their chair given they had nothing to lose. Not a feeling I had with Louis Theroux when he did similar interviews.

Anyway I am going to have to watch this…It must be hard for Ronaldo. Imagine being interviewed by Piers and knowing that the majority of people will think that you are the bigger arsehole.

If I was going to pick a old player to sign for NUFC I would go with Modric every time.

But NUFC are not in the business of signing Messi, Ronaldo etc so it is a pointless discussion.
