Newcastle Tracking Attacking Fullback Wanted By Serie A Duo

Newcastle have been linked with an interest in Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa. Sport Witness has cited a report from Germany’s Bild that the 24-year-old has hit Eddie Howe’s wishlist.

Sosa is one of the Bundesliga’s best full-backs. The Croatian’s claim to fame is his prowess on set pieces and crossing ability as evidenced by his 31 assists in 96 appearances in Germany. He would perfectly balance the Toon attack opposite the eminent Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle are currently stocked at left-back with Dan Burn starring in the role during the magical run up the table. Last season’s star Matt Targett was signed permanently over the summer. Howes’s attacking option, Jamal Lewis, has featured sparingly.

Sosa is signed until 2025 though is reportedly keen to move on having been at Stuttgart since 2018 when he joined from Dinamo Zagreb for around £5m. He would command a much larger fee if Newcastle were to make a move next year.

Any interest in Sosa, who has 8 caps for Croatia and is in their World Cup squad, is likely for next summer. Eddie Howe has fashioned a close-knit group with Dan Burn and Matt Targett key factors in the cohesivity.

Serie A’s Atalanta and Inter Milan are also tracking the assist machine. Newcastle will have money to spend next summer and adding an attacking left-back could be on the agenda with Sosa a superb option.

    The Bard,
That’s what I believed but kept it to myself, be totally ironic if he was given that some of the posters who are bemoaning him being chased away are the same ones that got him banned in the first place 😳

    I ignored nothing!
Yet, somehow, you manage to ignore your own ignoring of challenges made to your accusations?

Is that ALL of the rules on betting, seems a little light?
    Ok, if you say so…

So, how does this boil down to you being so angry with me/whomever about a passing comment, neither condoning or condemning a person, on a football blog?

Btw, you can defo jump a red light and not be busted.
    😉

It is the official FIFA one but it’s a bit crap at the minute, hopefully it will sort itself out.

I hope for Toney’s sake he at least won his bets. Imagine missing out on the WC, missing out on half a season and the chance of being amongst the top scorers and losing your bets.

Clint – no, of course not. I just copied and pasted the summary.

    Rules are here: https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/policies/betting-rules#:~:text=No%20Participant%20can%20bet%20on,passing%20inside%20information%20for%20betting.

    Harley,
I’m not sure if he doesn’t rate him, my theory was that he seen BDB as a perfect foil for Botman as he was eased in, it just looks like he thinks we’re better in defence with BDB over Targett, are we not the third or fourth highest scores so I’m not sure how we’re affected going forward too much.

Considering our performances in both defence & attack this season, I’m not sure why people are questioning playing Burn at left back. It’s good having Targett as an option for sure but things are working pretty well at the moment so you’d have to think that Eddie knows what he’s doing here…

Quite astonishing that they’ve only copped on to Toney now, 200+ incidents later !!

Someone was saying that everyone picks on Munster. Personally, apart from getting it so embarrassingly wrong and for so long on Rafa, Frank, Arteta, Eddie and Bruce, I don’t have any issue with Munster. Munster is very stubborn and won’t ever even for a single moment consider or entertain anyone’s opposing views.

However, I think essentially we both want to see the game played the right way, ie on the deck and I think Munster’s appreciation of players, ie Joao Pedro, who I really hope we go back in for, is far better judged than his views on coaches.

I’m not actually very interested in the rules, maybe that’s come across?
The plastic quality of ‘rules’ is a thing, too.

But the ‘rules of engagement’ are important.

Anger is an energy, ‘other energies’ are available.

I’m gonna quote a well known comedy now, I’m preempting so as no one gets confused…uh oh!

“That’s fightin’ talk where i come from”.
    “Why aren’t ya fightin’, then”?
    “I don’t live there anymore”!

Was watching Tyneside life on YouTube and he had Keith downie as a guest on his channel..
An interesting point if anyone has seen it is that if our first game back was Leicester at home instead of away.. would Maddison be thinking “I’ll have some of this”..

Knowing full well with him in our squad there’s a good chance of top 4..
    Maybe..

The decline in Maxi seems to have coincided with the arrival of Bruno. Bruno looks to have unwittingly taken Maxi’s crown as ”fan favourite” and Maxi’s body language now appears to reflect that somewhat. Of course many footballers have ridiculous egos but Maxi gives the impression he has been put seriously out of joint.

People say ASM doesn’t press or track back but tbf he’d probably have far better stats if we had finished all his potential ”assists”. He looks heavier these days, he’s not getting game time and the smile has gone. is his time up?

    Regan,
I think it’s common knowledge now what the stadium is like, the pundits are waxing lyrical about it, he’ll also have our three lads showing him all the match cam footage etc, I don’t think he’ll need much persuading if we’re interested and he’s thinking about it.

Well, I’m not sure it’s an argument, mate.
… and i wasn’t ‘arguing’ about being anti authority…i claim and wear my ‘recalcitrance’ with honour. Notice the choice of words?

I can definitely see how you might consider me ridiculous, and i’m pretty sure you won’t be able, or called upon, to assist.

Point i tried to succinctly make earlier before being jumped on for being an anarchist.

Was Toney may have had £5 trebles on lower league games which he had no influence on. He has done nothing wrong.

Apart from break some draconian rules to ensure that gambling doesn’t start to impact the sport. He deserves the consequences but he hasnt done anything that he should feel guilty about. He’s just a punter, like me and thee.

    Tin hat firmly attached.

To put Toney’s indiscretion in to some perspective. Tripper recieved a 10 game ban for one betting offence relating to his transfer to Atletico Madrid. He appealed against the ban and lost.

Rotonda – I think players like ASM and Mitrovic are massive confidence players and therefore fairly fragile when things aren’t working out for them. It’s why I don’t think either really suit a truly top team as I think they play best when they’re the main man in their team.

I’m still hoping he can come good but he’s running out of time before he has to be replaced I’d say.

    TDS and Clint Flick

On reading your debates about Ivan Toney but more specifically in relation to speed limits, after working as a Driving Instructor for 18 years i can tell you there is indeed some tolerance shown to pupils during their driving test who marginally break the speed limit for a short space of time as long as they become aware of breaking the speed limit and reduce their speed to the proper limit. During my time as a Driving Instructor i`ve had hundreds of pupils who made this mistake but the examiners always passed them as long as they drove in a satisfactory and competent manner during the test
