Newcastle’s three England stars have been preparing for Monday’s match against Iran to begin their World Cup journey. Newcastle posted the following photographs of the trio earlier on Saturday in sunny Qatar.

While all of the three are in contention for Monday, January target James Maddison is still nursing a knee injury he picked up last weekend when Leicester down West Ham 2-0. Maddison was withdrawn at halftime after scoring his seventh goal of the season.
The playmaker’s recent scan was positive but the injury isn’t serious enough to put his World Cup dream in doubt. Nick Pope, speaking to talkSPORT, offered the following update on his international teammate:
“He’s [Maddison] in good spirits. Obviously, he wants to be out there training more than anyone, so he’ll be with us soon, I’m sure.
“He’s in good spirits and he wants to have an impact in this World Cup. He’s come here in really good form, I’ve been watching him obviously from a distance and he’s really right at the top of his game.
“So I’m sure we’ll have him with us soon.”
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes had a scary moment earlier in the week. The 25-year-old injured his foot during a training session after a challenge from Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
Bruno returned to the session but was reportedly hobbled after suffering the knock. Thankfully, he was fine during Brazil’s final training session on Friday according to The Chronicle.
Guimaraes posted the following on Twitter on Saturday as the Brazil squad jetted off for Qatar.

Bruno also revealed that Brazil manager Tite is keen on utilizing some of the playmaking ability he’s unleashed since his move to Tyneside. Guimaraes is certain to build on his 8 caps during this World Cup.

Comment #42Ash, brilliant win though. Really hard game. Heroic defence and we limited them in a big way. Winning is a good habit. So that NZ, Australia, South Africa sorted.
And Munster second team beat South Africa second team. We’ll take that.
Sorry Tuff, more success from this fine small country that punches so much more than its weight. You must love this. Back to your Daily Mail and gimp mask for you, old infirm man 🙂

Comment #44That Ireland v Australia match wasn`t pretty or a thing of beauty for a large part of the match, and in fact Australia looked the better team for most of the game, but Ireland got the job done in the end while not playing anywhere near their best.

Comment #48I think we’re going to hold the world no.1 ranking now until at least February. That could be over 6 months we will have held it I think. That’s fair decent going.
Nothing worse than getting it and losing it a week or two later.

Comment #49Unlike plenty I’ve a lot of time for Welsh rugby fans. Clubs like Llanelli are very similar to Munster and they love their rugby the way nufc fans love the Toon. Passionate rugby fans, great men for a song song in a pub too. I’ve had incredible times in Cardiff too with Ireland and Munster. After one international weekend we travelled back to London where we were living and and walked up the steps on a Monday morning in Victoria Station.
It was massively depressing. The (now) wife turned to me and said “dull grey and full of cnuts” as we trudged our way up into the street. It was a pretty fair representation of how we felt.
But yes, great rugby memories. I’d love to get back there on a fishing trip. Fish Monmouthshire, get over to Yorkshire and fish there, and then up to Northumberland for a bit more there, finishing off with a weekend in the Toon. 🙂

Comment #52Munster – glad Ireland got the win, but stop the ‘small country’ syndrome. Why come on and try and rile up us English when you say you are a NUFC fan, and the vast majority of NUFC fans will be English; mostly from Newcastle! There’s no need
