Newcastle’s three England stars have been preparing for Monday’s match against Iran to begin their World Cup journey. Newcastle posted the following photographs of the trio earlier on Saturday in sunny Qatar.

While all of the three are in contention for Monday, January target James Maddison is still nursing a knee injury he picked up last weekend when Leicester down West Ham 2-0. Maddison was withdrawn at halftime after scoring his seventh goal of the season.
The playmaker’s recent scan was positive but the injury isn’t serious enough to put his World Cup dream in doubt. Nick Pope, speaking to talkSPORT, offered the following update on his international teammate:
“He’s [Maddison] in good spirits. Obviously, he wants to be out there training more than anyone, so he’ll be with us soon, I’m sure.
“He’s in good spirits and he wants to have an impact in this World Cup. He’s come here in really good form, I’ve been watching him obviously from a distance and he’s really right at the top of his game.
“So I’m sure we’ll have him with us soon.”
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes had a scary moment earlier in the week. The 25-year-old injured his foot during a training session after a challenge from Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
Bruno returned to the session but was reportedly hobbled after suffering the knock. Thankfully, he was fine during Brazil’s final training session on Friday according to The Chronicle.
Guimaraes posted the following on Twitter on Saturday as the Brazil squad jetted off for Qatar.

— Bruno Guimarães (@brunoog97) November 19, 2022
Bruno also revealed that Brazil manager Tite is keen on utilizing some of the playmaking ability he’s unleashed since his move to Tyneside. Guimaraes is certain to build on his 8 caps during this World Cup.

Comment #82Well, at least in attack, we have some players in reserve.
So now the question will be, will Deschamps play Mbappé as 9 and Dembélé with Coman on the wings.
Or Mbappé on the left, Dembélé or Coman on the right and Giroud as striker.

Comment #84Ace, why should you get riled up by me celebrating Irish sporting victories? It’s only the simpleton English who suffer that, not guys like you. Less intelligent men get twitchy on here, I know who they are. They are a million miles away from people like you. Inward looking halfwits, with their entrenched political and social economic viewpoints and limited scope to open themselves to other viewpoints or debate, they are the ones who struggle with this. Thankfully the majority on here are both more balanced and intelligent than them . But as a place where many things are discussed, from the environment to music, allow me to celebrate Irish wins among many broad minded general sports fans, some / many of whom are Irish, or relaxed about Irish sporting wins. And if a few hard core English fans don’t like it, well tough.

Comment #85Fenham, if you want a quieter life, go, sod off the blog and bore the arses off other people about your meetings on health safety and quality documentation. And tell them about your big car too. And how your family comes first, then your job, and the city, and the club or whatever manner of boring sh1t you’ve killed us with in the past….Jesus wept.
And then get on your own rocket with your fellow simpletons and light it up.
But check the safety manuals first, and quality statements yeah? ( But keep them to yourself big boy, they are verrrry boring to most of us, ok? )

Munster you really are Bigoted buffoon of the highest order. Who the fook do you think you are to come onto an NUFC blog and spew your hatred for England, our heritage, our history, our monarchy, our armed forces… Fook right off onto a Celtic blog where like minded bigots such as yourself pour out hatred towards all things English, you’d fit right in there. Don’t come onto an NUFC Blog with your crass bigoted opinions. You really are vile little man that lacks in delicacy and refinement…
We must never allow or let a small-minded bigot like you destroy the good image of our green and pleasant land… Which is England!
Learn some respect but that will never happen with you. You’ve been called out tonight and about time. Wind your neck in and simmer it down!

Comment #88Fenham: Unfortunately the blog is going downhill. There are a couple of posters on here that are just making it a pain to even bother reading any posts. I don’t want to bother responding to their crass comments, it’s just not worth the bother. I just get abuse in return. I agree with you. Who do they think they are to come on to a Newcastle blog and spew the crass they do. Just not sure if I should bother coming on here at all. Too bad because there are many good posters but the minority are spoiling it for the majority. Sad.

Just saw that you couldn’t join the WCFFL. Not sure what happened. Did you manage to create a team but couldn’t join our league? Or were you not even able to create an account and choose a team? Either way, that’s weird. Sorry that happened.
Maybe you can still join even after the first match day has started?

Comment #109Anyone seen George Caulkin’s piece in The Athletic? I’ll post the first segment only (below), if that doesn’t make you want to pay a quid a month I don’t know what will.
https://theathletic.com/3906778/2022/11/19/newcastle-shithousers-eddie-howe/
The fourth official has put his board up and signaled seven minutes and suddenly the game becomes a brutal ballet. Eddie Howe’s team are beating Chelsea 1-0 and, in a season of wonder and discovery, of shock and winning, are sitting third in the Premier League — or at least they will be once these final, tense moments are navigated. What follows is like a dark, gory, visceral pantomime.
Meet Newcastle United 2.0: flailing limbs, snarling, thrashing and pirouetting. Meet them and their ode to shithousing.
Joelinton is bending to adjust his shinpads. On the near touchline, Sean Longstaff nudges into Marc Cucurella. Fabian Schar goes down and is then up and limping, lifting his arms in exaggerated confusion. Nick Pope stands over him, wracked with concern, earning a yellow card for wasting time. And now Callum Wilson is chasing down the goal kick, pawing at Kalidou Koulibaly’s shoulders as the ball bounces out.
And although time doesn’t quite stop — Chelsea are breaking again, pushing forward and, way off the ball, Dan Burn is shoulder-slamming into Kai Havertz — even in the middle of this frenzied rush, you ask yourself the question, how did Newcastle get to be like this? Not just good (which they are), not just better than Chelsea (which they are), but these narrow-eyed, streetwise b@stards?
Or, as Alan Shearer says pithily when we ask him about it, how did they get to be so “f***ing brilliant”?

Comment #110Fenham, as I said, tough. Suck it up. If you can get through 10 days of “deep mourning” for the Queen you had no relationship with, you can get over this. I’m still loving the drama and “look at me, I’m so deeply royal and affected” you used at the time.
Most other blokes were a bit saddened, or just sad, or didn’t care particularly, or not really affected at all,or somewhere in between. Or felt a general loss to UK society of a famous and hardworking figure, as would be normal.
But no, Fenham had to be the most hurt, the most affected, the one who had to be seen to mourn so deeply, far more than others.
The big blog drama queen.

It’s an eyeopener from an The Independent journalist (and bindipper fan).

I said my piece last night and didn’t want to pile on again but…. leaving a smiley face at the end of your comment doesn’t show that it was done in jest. You’ve got a long history of antagonising ‘Englanders’ despite your protestations that you’ve got a sister in England yatter yatter. You’ve made your true feelings clear numerous times, why do it, you’re just waiting in the wings for England’s inevitable exit knowing the anger it will cause, there’s no need for it, so again, why do you do it time and time again?
