Newcastle Reportedly Rate Fleet-Footed Ecuador International Very Highly

Newcastle are reportedly keen on Real Valladolid winger Gonzalo Plata. The 22-year-old is in Ecuador’s starting eleven against Qatar today to kick off the 2022 World Cup. Despite only turning 22 earlier this month, Plata already has 30 caps for Ecuador.

Journalist Dean Jones, in Give Me Sport, touts Plata to star on the world stage while claiming Newcastle rate him highly. Brighton, who have three of Plata’s international teammates on board, are also tracking the winger.

Plata joined Valladolid this past summer moving from Portuguese giants Sporting CP for around £2.5m. He spent two seasons in Lisbon with 38 appearances and 8 goal contributions. He is an academy product of Ecuador’s Independiente, which is where Brighton star Moises Caicedo got his start.

Plata has continued his upward trajectory this season with 2 assists in his 10 appearances in Spain. While two injuries have limited him, there is little the 5’10” speedster can’t do on the flanks.

The left footer is primarily deployed on the right where he can cut inside. While his pace and dribbling skill often catch the eye, he can pick out a pass and also is very tenacious off the ball.

Plata is one of a number of up-and-coming stars that Newcastle should have their eye on in this World Cup. He certainly fits the bill for what Newcastle are looking for in a wide attacker. Though he only just joined Valladolid in the summer with a contract to 2027.

    #137 cannot argue with that.

Another point…The Qatari fans seemed to have taken on some form of training from the Icelandic fans which I thought hilarious but bless them lol 😉

Qatar defended better in the 2nd half and their GK put in a decent performance as well but Ecuador could and should have scored at least one more.

Can’t see either of them getting past the group stage.

As for that offside it was far from obvious but an intensive VAR check showed his leg to be marginally offside.

Have to admit I had a wry smile and the corruption angle in my mind though.

EGB so, it was offside? Did not record it so cannot go back and look. But, as you say, it was off side. Fair enough for me.

    WLToon, Raj,
To be fair the people who left did appear to be the Qatari prawn sandwich brigade as opposed to the normal fans who did stay throughout the game from what I saw. They were probably thinking “so we spent £200 biliion to showcase to the world that this is how sh*t we are are at football”

I assume it was the same on the uk stream, they showed the virtual reality of the offside incident – clearly a correct decision.

I didn’t see it at the time – technology eh, who’d have thunk it 🙂

You need TWO players behind the ball to remain onside, one of them was clear cut, the keeper was borderline.

    WLtoon,

Shift work is an absolute nightmare and kills the body clock. Going from days to nights is hard on the body and mental wellbeing…

When I was in Oil & Gas I done shift working (days night’s) it was an absolute nightmare…I couldn’t sleep as well after a night shift through the days because (a) it was light, (b) noisier outside. For me to get a good night sleep I need darkness and silence.

Therefore, I invested in the MUSICOZY Sleep Headphones. It’s a mask that connects via Bluetooth to an iPhone that has a sleep App and plays through a small speaker from calming music, to rain, thunder storms, white/brown noise. Etc. was one of the best things I’ve bought. It really works mate it’s did for me. The sleep app (called shut eye) tracks your sleep patterns also.

Quite funny when it plays back recordings of your snoring and Flatulence.

Looks like that FIFA will instruct refs to book players like Harry Kane for wearing the ‘One Love’ armband.Presumably before a game starts
What happens if they do t remove the armband, second booking and red card before kick off ?
What happens if the whole team are wearing them or both teams wearing them ?
    Match abandoned.
FIFA want to protect their financial coziness with Qatar ?

This has chaos written all over it

According to Forbes Qatar spent circa $220 billion on the WC!

15 times more than the Ruskies spent for 2018.

I’m wondering why they didn’t invest in bringing their own national game up to speed. They’ve had 12 years, could afford the best facilities and coaching worldwide. It’s a level of gashness from a host nation I have not witnessed before.
Maybe they did invest in it!
Looked like gammons some of them sheikhs when the camera panned round onto them 😆

Both his foot and knee were offside…it was very clear, I like this new automated technology.

The BBC did show that the goal was marginally offside at half time and again after the match. It was the correct decision. At the time of the goal itself though it looked fine to me and the thought of Qatar paying VAR to intervene did cross my mind but I thought at the time “how many times can you have VAR save you in a game before it would be ludicrously obvious”

#177 that is exactly why playing the WC in Qatar was the 2nd biggest farce in world football (1st was our previous owner)

Qatar should have put aside all their strong stance and beliefs for this WC as it is a WC not the Qatar Cup….Joke!

    Jail,

It’s supposed to be an upgraded system, I don’t profess to be an expert.

Sensor in the ball to know the exact time it’s passed combined with multiple cameras around the ground tracking each players movement – essentially a semiautomated system that takes away the manual judgement

Culturally you wonder why many Qataris are even remotely interested in football ? It’s never been part of their social life nor way of living. Not as if they go to The Strawberry before a match.

I have no history, interest or desire to be involved with bull fighting, rodeo or even rugby league so don’t get involved or support them. I am aware of them and perhaps keep an eye on them from afar so telling Qataris to suddenly start loving football seems pointless

I really thought VAR was going to show the EPL how it should be implemented and managed. First game IMO was straight out the EPL VAR book of horrors. Hope it was a one off.

Keep saying it. If Rugby and Cricket can master it why not football? Is it because there is so much money in football which opens the door for potential corruption. It’s such a shame as VAR would be great for the beautiful game if it was operated in the right manner.

Can’t remember if they showed lines but they did show that the player who headed the ball back into the box had his leg a few inches offside.

Tenuous decision and they had to struggle to find it but they did.

Aye, I also espied the new VAR tech and it was offside. Good bit of kit that. If your off, your off.

Don’t think it was shown on the screen in the stadium in real time when it occurred though. That was one of the main reasons for bringing it in, showing the crowd the 3D representation of the incident.
Maybe a gremlin in the VAR mainframe on the 3D Rep module!
