Newcastle Reportedly Rate Fleet-Footed Ecuador International Very Highly

Newcastle are reportedly keen on Real Valladolid winger Gonzalo Plata. The 22-year-old is in Ecuador’s starting eleven against Qatar today to kick off the 2022 World Cup. Despite only turning 22 earlier this month, Plata already has 30 caps for Ecuador.

Journalist Dean Jones, in Give Me Sport, touts Plata to star on the world stage while claiming Newcastle rate him highly. Brighton, who have three of Plata’s international teammates on board, are also tracking the winger.

Plata joined Valladolid this past summer moving from Portuguese giants Sporting CP for around £2.5m. He spent two seasons in Lisbon with 38 appearances and 8 goal contributions. He is an academy product of Ecuador’s Independiente, which is where Brighton star Moises Caicedo got his start.

Plata has continued his upward trajectory this season with 2 assists in his 10 appearances in Spain. While two injuries have limited him, there is little the 5’10” speedster can’t do on the flanks.

The left footer is primarily deployed on the right where he can cut inside. While his pace and dribbling skill often catch the eye, he can pick out a pass and also is very tenacious off the ball.

Plata is one of a number of up-and-coming stars that Newcastle should have their eye on in this World Cup. He certainly fits the bill for what Newcastle are looking for in a wide attacker. Though he only just joined Valladolid in the summer with a contract to 2027.

they probably do what many of the English fans do and save up for the trip.

Don’t have to be high earners to do that.

EGB, we could even make WorB the chairman, seeing as he is probably closer to Craster than any of us.

Well it looks like the app has given out points for the scorers and the assisted but doesn’t want to give out clean sheet points 😕

Qatar did actually invest huge amounts of money in football over the last decade and also made it easier for foreign players to naturalise as a Qatari. As Raj said though this is still all they could achieve. The fact is it not difficult to buy success with club sides cos you can compete to buy the best players but international football simply does not work that way.

World Cup 2002 Japan and South Korea did it right. Two unfancied teams however South Korea got Hiddink to train the players for 6 months and they were exciting to watch. Japan played good football too. This Qatar team seem like an embarrassment to football. Who is their manager?

Loch@193, what you say may be true for Qataris but you have to remember that of the 2.6 million people living in Qatar only around 300K of them are Qatari so there will be a decent amount of people living there who do love football.

I’m very glad things seem to have calmed down on here!

    It was getting very tedious.

I think if I were a fish I’d be a Great White Shark & I’d eat up and spit out all the trouble makers on here!

I’d spit them out in bits…. So there!

Another fight brewing on here I see.
Where will it be held China or UK and when will it happen?
Is it ppv? BT or Sky?
When do tickets go on sale?
Is it cobra kai vs Miyagi do?
Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris or will it be Ian Beale vs Phil Mitchell?

Pug, if you want to clarify what’s objectionable, let me know. If you find it offensive for example, that I can really like Gloucester fugby fans as a group, but don’t support England, I don’t really see a conflict there.

I could have objected to listening to strange dog comments for years, but I subscribe to live and let live.

in these highlights of the opening ceremony there doesn’t seem to be any women involved. the Qataris in the crowd all seemed to be men. what does that tell you? suggests it is still repressive.

    Mort,

I can understand it, I would actually like it.
    (Not for the World Cup)

But for individual teams it makes sense. However, I understand why it’s more beneficial to market it as a league.

If we start to try and do it ourselves , then we’re no better than the so called super league , which we all condemned.

Every day TV adverts bombard us with adverts soliciting contributions towards supporting global charities trying to save the starving in Africa, kids. Going blind or with cleft pallets. The Chinese torturing Black Moon bears, dying elephants, famine, malaria, you name it

All could be fixed with the money spent on the World Cup, bribery and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. And our own PPI corruption and Government incompetence

Mort@209 Both Japan and South Korea were already much more established footballing nations and both have much larger population from which to pick players. If you don’t even know who Qatar manager is then it is daft to assume that their performance is down to not bringing in someone like Hiddink, based on1 game again a decent side in Ecuador (who Brazil failed to beat in their last two attempts)

Sure Qatar are rubbish but the reason for this is most likely that they have tiny population to pick from.
